i know this video is a year old, but i wanted to say i put my rings for compression on the left and right sides of piston, more in line with the pin because of the forces in the motor front to back are the greatest and possible to scratch and most likely to have play between piston and cylinder. always seemed like a good idea to install left and right.

Runs well and sounds good, I personally would have done another oil change and some kind of cleaner to completely make sure that you don't repeat the whole locking up thing from the oil mixing wirh rad fluid. Secondly I never heard the fan kick on once getting to temp. Depending on what thermostat you have. Once that opens and kicks on that switch you should get fan. Or if your like me you do it with a switch so it runs all the time. But hey your also the guy I've never seen ever do a break in one anything it seems. Either way you got it fixed snd running and have far more bravery and knowledge then most mechanics. Thats for sure. Never ever let someone discourage ya brother cuz you've saved a ton of machines from scrap. I know me and my kids like your videos and how chill they are. @tylerstipancic6615 Жыл бұрын
Check that oil again guy who rebuilt it before might have not put the water pump seal in correctly. I'd lower the needle clip 1 setting and make sure the accelerator pump adjustment doesn't have a bunch of slack. Id jet it 1 size richer on pilot and main if the other adjustments don't help. Also you might need a new throttle cable. Shouldn't be more than 2 turns out on the air/fuel. Love the content 👍

At 16:00 i thought you had the piston in 180 out from the valves based on camera angle. So if they did not jet it for big bore. Maybe thats why cylinder cracked.. under jetting, caused lean condition and it cracked.

It's called clocking the rings🤟 I learned a long time ago not to just do the top end unless you yourself have broken down the whole motor before because there can always be metal inside they'll ruin your nice new piston. it's been proven it makes no difference on a comparison test, but i'd opt for a gentle break in myself. It's a rich man's toy and they always need money chucking in to them with on going maintenance so to be honest i don't think the break in procedure really matters all that much in the scheme of things. With these things you're going to be spending money on it, just how it is.

I’d recommend upgrading the accelerator pump with a boyessen quikshot or something similar to get rid of any bog and switching to an NCVQ adjustable needle to really get the mid range dialed in. Can also do a TPS bypass plug to eliminate bog further and sharpen throttle response.

@Coolkitty639 Жыл бұрын
Possible hanging idle fixes: As you stated mid body gasket causing an internal air leak. The slide sealing plate gasket (the lip faces out). Worn rollers on the slide lifting/depressing arm not forcing the slide down all the way at idle with engine vacuum working against it.

MLS gaskets... They are not forgiving when imperfections are present on the deck or cylinder head. They also use Torque To Yield bolts which are not recommended for reuse since they will continue to yield or stretch after installation. That leads to gasket failure due to head lifting during high RPM operation. Since MLS are not forgiving, never use scotch brite or scotch brite wheels on either the deck or cylinder head. The typical procedure is lapping the gasket surfaces in a surface plate with the appropriate grit abrasive.

While it was apart you can pull the drain bolt and pour a bit of kerosine through it till it run clean, then fill with oil run just till it’s warm and drain again and see what you have.
