I agree, 18” is much neater. Also if I am having a hard time with the French knot sometimes I will use a bead for the highlight.

My question is about the embroidery thread. I know the thread is made up of 6 pieces of floss. When or how do I know when to use 6 pieces of floss together, one strand of floss or 3 pieces of floss?

Hi Jessica, the instructions will let you know how many strands to use. If you look at the Color/Symbol guide the third column tells the number of strands to use for each symbol . Hope this helps 🙂
