The tree shot was actually very purposeful. The leaf blower was so the audience did not have to have a repeat of the story again, we know it and don't need to hear it again - just need to know that Lily knows. And putting her behind a tree I think was to either make Lily appear crazy by talking to a tree for comedy or keep up the "Mia is invisible" shtick.
