This movie doesn't want to be historically accurate. It's a whole other universe, how could you think that it wants to be accurate? @@starlighttigerx268 I'm not annoyed because it's not "historically accurate." It clearly doesn't want to be. If that was my complaint, there's a lot more to this movie that I'd have a problem with. 21:45 THANK YOUUUU I'm a fashion nerd and I HATED this movie like HATE HATE HATE HATE hated this movie (which sucks because hearing about it before it came out I really wanted to like it). One of the most aggravating things to me (overall) was the fashion. The whole POINT of her going to the ball is to wear her own clothes and sell her product. She only managed to land a deal with the queen because she wore the dress that Billie Porter made. But when Billie asked she said SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT. She's selling a product that she can't reproduce! Also I hate everything about the choice of the dress and how they treat it. The color is wrong for warm orange candle light, it's the wrong length, it's the wrong style for every scene's color palate that it's in, it's wrong for the dance they chose, it's wrong for the song they dance to, it's wrong for the context (the dress isn't formal enough for the ball, not fashionable enough for an eye catcher, not technical enough for a portfolio piece, internally inconsistence), and incorrectly styled. The hair doesn't match the dress, it's not flattering to her body-type (as much as it could be, Cabello is beautiful and the dress does nothing for her) and the dress doesn't even match itself. The gems look cheap next to the pink dress in the warm gold light, and it's butterfly natural themed on the top but bedazzled and structure on the bottom. The best part is someone in production knew it was horrible, because NO ONE TALKS ABOUT how the dress is pink and the poster is purple. Purple would've solved all their color problems

damn you really went INNN on this dress. as someone who understands absolutely _nothing_ about fashion and even thought Camilla's dress was quite pretty, I enjoyed myself immensely reading this, 11/10 would like a 40 minute breakdown of how much this dress sucks and why it is so terrible.
@rkah6187 Жыл бұрын
I thought it was a pretty dress myself, but it could not hold a candle to what all the other princesses were wearing. Some of those pieces were just stunning. You expect Cinderella's dress to stand out but it's just so bland.
@doubledorkCrawf0rd Жыл бұрын
I mean the dress transformation is a huge part of the original story, and that's alos the main problem I have with this movie. You're gonna make the heroine a dressmaker who doesn't even make her own iconic dress?? And then she gets a job opportunity from a dress she didn't make?? I would've accepted it if the only thing that kept her from making it was the fabric, or specific materials; then the magic would've made sense, because it would've been there to bring technical help to a quality that was already there. But that design in the movie was VERY vague...

The movie: Women are so oppressed that it's impossible to even imagine a woman working by selling dresses. Also the movie: Women always sharply discuss with men with no consequences, some actually are seen working at the court, a queen who murdered her opponent is a welcome guest, and everything is systematically solved with two days and four conversations. Basically, they want to deliver an uplifting message, but without going through not-so-uplifting stuff that would warrant that kind of message. While morally commendable, it's script-wise forced and clunky. There are some nice and interesting ideas thrown in here, but are never actually explored.

I still can't believe they added a queen that killed the king to take over the kingdom for her own sake and then made the cameras to follow cinderella around. I don't think the writers were using their brains when thinking of the plot. They were so focused on "girl power" and being a "strong independent woman who don't need no man." Cinderella talks so much about making her own choices and being free to follow her dreams without the help of a man, but working as the queens seamstress is being her servant. Cinderella wouldn't get to pick the designs she wanted to make. Everything would be controlled by the queen. Marrying the prince would've been the most advantatious for "making her dream come true" she could've led him to change laws and had royal messengers spread word of her amazing designs.

It's baffling to me that even after all these years Hollywood movies can't seem to find the right balance for their princesses. I grew up watching both Disney and Miyazaki animations, and even as a kid I always felt myself more drawn to Miyazaki's female protagonists. But I never disliked Disney's princesses either. These days, however, with all the Disney remakes I'm starting to like them less and less. They just constantly make these female protagonists sing and shout "Look at me! I'm a strong independent woman." And the message is so in your face that has become annoying to me, and I'm a woman. And they seem to think that the only way to show how strong and smart women are is to show that men are shallow and stupid. They just can't figure out how to do this right. I guess that is what I most like about Miyazaki's female protagonists. They are just smart, brave, strong and kind without it feeling awkward or forced. And the male protagonists are just as good. This is what I was expecting to see in these Disney remakes. Sadly, it wasn't the case.

The only thing I disagree with you on is the King and Queen's marital issues. They kinda did set it up early, it was just little things. But I think they made a difference. For example when she commented on his throne getting higher. Or whenever he would treat her like she was inferior, the camera would linger on her dejected face. Also when she asked him "Did you just say you didn't care if they loved each other?" You were supposed to use your context clues to assume she was also referring to their marriage. I caught onto that when I watched it but maybe thats just me? Also, just overall, the king and the queen have shown to be on different wavelengths about their son's situation. So yeah.. i think that was enough set up for it all to come to a head at the end.

They WERE hinting at the king and Queen's storyline since the beginning, since the prince told him that it was a good thing his mother came with 3 castles and a hundred horses or otherwise he wouldn't have been born, and then the king tells him he doesn't know what he is talking about. It implies that his kid sees them as a loveless marriage yet there was a time where they loved each other. And then it progresses with the Queen thinking he finally got it right by allowing his son to marry for love(Another thing Dylan missed, he changed his mind and told his son he could marry anybody because that was the only way to continue his legacy after the first time the prince threatened to abdicate the throne) and getting upset after when he decides he doesn't care if his son marries someone he doesn't love
