@@rosalieelliottofficial This song came out when I was 22, so while I could relate to the sentiment, I live it now. Except it's 40 years now...where'd they go? :D His "Old Time Rock and Roll" is one of these type of songs, as is "Main Street," "Night Moves"...there are many others. He just pulls at the heart strings and is quite the lyricist. He can get funky now and then, too. He really is an institution, and I grew up with a record of his from his strugglin' days in the late 60s when his band was called The Bob Seger System called "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." That's ore of a funky one, and he even employs that term in the song. ha!

Bob is the king of musical nostalgia. What's amazing is I grew up listening to his songs and never paid much attention to them. Then, on a fresh listen to Night Moves (in another reaction video) at age 53 it hit me like a ton of bricks. That bittersweet pain you feel when you recognize that there's more years behind you than ahead of you, reflecting on you youth and realizing you didn't fully appreciate it at the time. The phrase "youth is wasted on the young" comes to mind.

As a native Detroiter who recently turned 59, Bob Seger represents a large portion of the soundtrack of my life, especially my youth. It is completely impossible for me to separate how I felt about his music then and now. You might be surprised to learn that he was reflecting on the same things as this song spoke of even in the '70's...consider the song "Night Moves" as an example of this. You might also find the song "Turn the Page" interesting from the psychological perspective...the song speaks of life on the road for a musician. Fo me, Bob Seger represented god times, and personified all my dreams as someone who wanted to be a musician and songwriter. I appreciate him even more now, having achieved some of those dreams and being able to understand his greatness even more. God bless!!

Having lived in the Detroit area from 1974-1984 I can tell you Bob Seger was immensely popular and filled the airwaves. I had the true pleasure of seeing him in concert either in 1982 or 1983 and it was start to finish great songs and equally great performances. I think one of the reasons he isn't more widely known is he's too authentic to pursue the celebrity life and play that game. His songs come from the soul and are grounded in life experience. He reflects his Midwestern roots in that regard. There are at least a dozen great songs you should check out. I've always liked "Roll Me Away" and "Hollywood Nights", probably because my life followed the song- a midwesterner that moved to LA and the feeling of being in over your head. True talent knows no age limit some I'm glad you are open to musical experiences from another generation.

Great reaction. One doesn't listen to a Bob Seger song, one feels a Bob Seger song. If it doesn't make you reflect on your life, then you weren't really paying attention. Wait'll you hear "Night Moves" "Against The Wind" and "Turn The Page" which are also life/nostalgia songs. As for how I felt when his music first came out, the music got you moving and sounded great. The lyrics on the nostalgia songs like "Like a Rock", don't really hit you with the same power until you get older. The older you get, the more the lyrics resonate with you. Lyrics like "20 years ago. Where'd they go?" don't mean much to a 22yr old, but it does to a 40yr old and even more to a 60yr old.

Lyrically and vocally one of the greatest artists of his time underrated but highly rated by people in rock and roll "Feel Like a Number, Old Time Rock And Roll, We Have Tonight" to name a few of his many great songs

This is my first video of yours, and you're the first "Reaction" creator I've watched who pays close attention to the lyrics. As an old English teacher, the lyrics mean a great deal to me, so it is refreshing to find someone who respects the words. Thank you.

This song as well as other awesome tunes from 70's and 80's were on my playlist for our camping trip. He sings about experiences that we all go through. I am 64 now and also wonder where those years went. Love it! Turn the Page is another awesome song from Bob.

Loved your reaction to Bob Seger. I have always loved his songs and like you said that rasp in his voice just made his songs more amazing. Grew up listening to him my whole life and still love his music today.

I'm 70 years old and 10 years ago this song inspired me to be like a rock. I stretch and work out 30 minutes every day to say young. It works I started doing motorcycle race track days which is physically demanding and now I ride every minute possible while 30 year Olds are packing up and going home. You have to keep your dreams. By the way on most tracks my top speed is over 150 mph.

Thanks for bringing this song to light. The original title for this album was American Storm. The name was changed when GM bought the copyright for a Chevrolet commercial. I bought that album on cassette tape and a T shirt titled American Storm at his concert in 1986.I still have the T shirt, but I was never able to find another cassette. Nothing but good memories seeing Bob Seger live! The cassettes were only sold at his concerts before the album was released.

I still have the LP. Saw him in 2006 but wish I could have seen him in his prime. But his music lives.

You absolutely nailed it, Rosalie!! You're so very thoughtful in your listening! He has so many hits... he's one of the best storytellers, seems like it's becoming a lost art. Luv ya! 💙💙 xx Cynthia
