As a native Detroiter who recently turned 59, Bob Seger represents a large portion of the soundtrack of my life, especially my youth. It is completely impossible for me to separate how I felt about his music then and now. You might be surprised to learn that he was reflecting on the same things as this song spoke of even in the '70's...consider the song "Night Moves" as an example of this. You might also find the song "Turn the Page" interesting from the psychological perspective...the song speaks of life on the road for a musician. Fo me, Bob Seger represented god times, and personified all my dreams as someone who wanted to be a musician and songwriter. I appreciate him even more now, having achieved some of those dreams and being able to understand his greatness even more. God bless!!

Great reaction. One doesn't listen to a Bob Seger song, one feels a Bob Seger song. If it doesn't make you reflect on your life, then you weren't really paying attention. Wait'll you hear "Night Moves" "Against The Wind" and "Turn The Page" which are also life/nostalgia songs. As for how I felt when his music first came out, the music got you moving and sounded great. The lyrics on the nostalgia songs like "Like a Rock", don't really hit you with the same power until you get older. The older you get, the more the lyrics resonate with you. Lyrics like "20 years ago. Where'd they go?" don't mean much to a 22yr old, but it does to a 40yr old and even more to a 60yr old.

This song made me feel strong back then. Like there was so much to look forward to and accomplish. We had so much hope for a better world. 40 years later I hear this song and it makes me cry though not in a sad way. It's the people who made up my world back then that I think about now. Many are still a part of it. I think back and see what a wonderful time we were having back then but didn't really know it. It was the time of life that made us who we are. It makes me feel proud of who we were. It makes me feel proud of the old woman that I am becoming. We change throughout our lives. POV changes. Who we are at the core of ourselves doesn't really change. I don't miss my youth. I recall it proudly.

Rosalie Until few years ago, Bob Seger completed his farewell tour after long career in music. His live performances are legendary! During his last tour, one of his buddies, fellow Michigander, Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad played drums. 50+years of Bob Seger's music!

❤my daughter says this song was written for her father! My husband! Like a Rock! Hard working man, loving hard, living hard, playing hard! 75 yr. Old man still with long hair to his butt, stereo blasting in his classic truck, used to be motorcycles, teaching the grandkids how to appreciate life and live it well!!!!❤

I've always been a metal head and metal musician, but Bob is one of my top five favorites of all time. He is just too damn good. Huge catalog and not a bad track.

"This song is absolutely BEAUTIFUL in regards to, psychologically...what life is about!" You don't know it (yet) but you just described most of his huge catalog of songs. His ability to paint a scene and put you right there with him, evoking feelings which resonate with everyone, is unmatched.

I was 38 when I first heard this song and am now 70. The big difference is back in 1986 it was all about the music, and today it is more about the meaning of the words . This is similar in style to "Night Moves". Seger wrote the song as a coming of age tale about adolescent love and adult memory of it.

Love the man. What a voice and what a storyteller. I consider him the king of nostalgia. I remember seeing him live one summer back in the early 80s. I don't think he quite has the discography depth to be considered one of the greatest, but damn he is good. An American great.

I grew up with these decades and consider very very lucky to have heard SO much of these songs, It's Great! You've made a WISE choice by going back and listening to these folks belt out one powerhouse of a song after another. Hats off to Rosalie Elliott for venturing back to something that's going to blow your socks off. They don't make songs like this anymore and I promise, you will be amazed. Wise choice Rosalie. A splendid time is will provide some amazment! for you. Doug- 69 and I still listen still all this stuff and still try to play as many as I can I'm able to. Try a song called " Mainstreet " You'll love it. Thanks for venturing out Rosalie. Doug up in Green Bay, WI. Take care Dear.🌹

Having lived in the Detroit area from 1974-1984 I can tell you Bob Seger was immensely popular and filled the airwaves. I had the true pleasure of seeing him in concert either in 1982 or 1983 and it was start to finish great songs and equally great performances. I think one of the reasons he isn't more widely known is he's too authentic to pursue the celebrity life and play that game. His songs come from the soul and are grounded in life experience. He reflects his Midwestern roots in that regard. There are at least a dozen great songs you should check out. I've always liked "Roll Me Away" and "Hollywood Nights", probably because my life followed the song- a midwesterner that moved to LA and the feeling of being in over your head. True talent knows no age limit some I'm glad you are open to musical experiences from another generation.

Rosalie, you are a gift destined to bring clarity to the world of your followers. I'm relatively new to your channel but I find it both amazing and quite satisfying someone as young as you are, is able bring so much to our lives. I am not far my 80th year. Bob Segar was a myth in the first years of your life, the middle years of mine, and still is. There were so many in that time period who knew the challenge of life and how to express their experiences and emotions in a way people of all ages are able to enjoy and understand. Namaste our dear friend and mentor. 🙏 PS. His classic car is a '59 or '60 Corvette. I wasn't paying enough attention but remember them when they were brand new. Truly a classic meant for the open road.

Bob is a treasure trove of music. "Turn the Page" is a good tune as well as many others he wrote. He expresses emotion and angst like few other singers.

This song has become very special to me. I was that young man....tough as nails, hard as flint, resolute...Never shied from a fight and never compromised what I believed in. I'm 70 now, hobbling about on a cane, just a shadow of the man I used to be. Late at night, I spend most of my time looking back, not forward. Sleep is elusive and most nights I just listen to music....and recall.

@@russellkeeling4387 The hardest part was losing my identity. I used to be the guy that worked harder and longer than anyone else, the guy that stepped up to knock down a bully....a protector and a defender. Now that person no longer exists and I spent many a sleepless night trying to figure out who I am now. I'm finally at peace with what I've become...I'm just the shadow I used to cast on a moonlit night. Once I accepted that, the self-pity and remorse faded away. Now I do what I can and try to be as useful as my failing body will allow on any given day. Most days I'm content....until I hear "Like a Rock", and then it all comes rushing back.

Please remember us old people were listening to this rock music when we were young. You are correct we still listen to it. looking for s phycology oriented song by him, try "Turn the Page". Bob started back in the late 60s and first charted with 2+2 and Ramblin Gamblin Man. He didn't form the Silver Bullet Band officially until 1973. Bob Seger is known as the Detroit Boy that is one of the best story tellers and reflects upon life in many ways. Plenty of Bob Seger to listen to from 2 + 2, Night Moves; Running Against the Wind; Like a Rock; Shamed by the Moon; Turn the Page; Just Roll With it ; You'll Accompany Me; and Main Street to name just a few.
