Thanks for the question. I'd like to help but that isn't possible from a distance. In order to determine and prescribe help for your children I would have to personally evaluate their vision, I'd recommend that you contact optometrists in your area and ask if they know where help is available for low vision patients. There is probably an agency of your government that assists people with low vision. They may be able to help or direct you to someone who can. Good luck.

i have this disease too. i wear glasses for people who have nearsightedness it does help my vision a bit especially at night, but it still difficult. I would love to try your glass.

My light sensitivity in so extreme that I have to wear a mask over my eyes and two pair of sunglasses when dealing with direct sunlight, reflexions of sunlight, or headlights. And in lowlight situations my vision is significantly impaired. Hence, driving would be suicidal for me as it would be for at least many other Stargardt’s afflicted individuals.

Thanks for your comment. You raise a very important point. Most states, including Virginia where I live, allow people with reduced vision to drive while wearing bioptic telescopic glasses. The vision requirements are different than those to obtain a regular, unrestricted driver's license. A pamphlet from the Virginia DMV states that "DMV's goal is to allow individuals to drive for as long as they can safely operate a motor vehicle". Some people who are able to meet the vision requirements do not feel safe driving. They should not drive. I often tell my patients that driving is probably the most dangerous thing that most of us do. If you do not feel safe driving, you should not be driving. There are many people with Stargardt, macular degeneration and other eye conditions who are able to safely drive while wearing bioptic glasses. You have made a wise decision to leave the driving to other people.

@@selectfilm6804there’s no official treatment. There is genetic eye therapy but not proven to help with stargardts. Also not have google?
