It's the same in Ontario. But some areas you see warm drive saws but mostly you see side regular circular saws Sidewinder types. We also call circular saws skill saws. I think east coast is mostly warm drive as you said

Own this saw it's awesome! It just wants to go straight. For how nice and smooth it cuts it more than makes up for the weight.

I have one of these. Is excellent, a bit heavy. It stops instantly, a lot less noisy than a cord worm drive. The design on makita is superior just like a skill saw . Skill had it right from the get go back from the 60’s ( not very sure when it started)

I want to add this to my collection this year. I've read nothing but good things with this saw. It will be my first circular saw and I have a relatively strong upper body so I should be okay using it. Since I have no basis of comparison using sidewinders it will be a real treat buying a sidewinder after using this for a while. My father inlaw has a sidewinder so I'll get him to school me on that. I own and use a mitre saw for cross cuts but for longer pieces of wood where ripping is needed this seems a good way to go even though it appears crosscuts seem like a breeze too. I'm a DIY guy looking for dependable tools. Thanks for your vid demo-ing this.

Hi Brad, Yes, you are correct skil saw is a brand name but a lot of us still call it a skil saw not a circular saw. Just like the sawzall. It's a milwaukee brand but we call all reciprocating saw (sawzall), LOL. No worries, the rear handle is also called worm drive, LOL. .. Yes, a lot of framing guys like the worm drive (rear handle) saw when cutting rafter tails off and ripping multiple plywood. I used that style for many years but i now find myself using the top handle style (skilsaw) more. I just hope one of these companies can make a (7 - 1/4) top handle style with a left side blade. Just my feedback. Thanks for the video.

Hey Michael, you wouldn't believe how many people give me a hard time for calling it a skill saw. I definitely see the advantages of this saw however it wouldn't be my go to, just because of the weight and size. 7-1/4 lefty would be nice. cheers

We say skill saw in New zealand 🇳🇿 as well. Ive got old 18v still going good. But want to get a 54 v one for when i need more power. Good review, stil not sure though, ive held it in the store and feels so heavy guess once it rests on timber weights gone

My safety switch got glued down the first week. I don't mind the ones that click into place (like a rifle or pistol safety) but the spring-loaded ones just end up aggravating me. I used to open up my tools and pull them out but now I just glue them in place.

I have this saw and it cuts well. I got it on sale but would in hindsite prefer the 60 volt blade right sidewinder version. It has to me a better balance and the dust disscharge is away from the operator. The weight is excessive and limits its use in some applications. Dust disscharge needs an adjustable chute away from the operator or to a vacuum included. The 60 volt is like a corded tool power wise but I think unless the weight and size of the batteries comes down they will drive a return to corded for the higher power tools. Batteries have their application for sure but some tools are just better corded when the battery size and weight become a limiting factor in the use of the tool
@hammerandhome

That’s all very true, that’s a big reason I don’t like makita, they have a lot of tools with two batteries on them. Way too heavy. I really don’t like using dewalt tools with anything bigger than a 6amp battery. Gets to heavy.
