We’ve had a lot of wind. The surface water moves at 90% to the wind direction. Surface water is moving offshore so the upwelling of the cold deep water is effecting overall water temperatures.
@whyno713
@whyno713 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, so it's also been warmer inland - La Nina winter - and the difference contrasted by cooler ocean means more offshore winds due to temperature difference? Global warming feedback loop? I probably have no idea what I'm talking about. 😋😋

just friendly advice: keep from handling shorts by the gills...if you flatten your hand, pinch the halibut behind the head, across the neck will get a good grip.

At 9:35 , what's to prevent a shark from grabbing that bloody halibut, when he's on the stringer in the water?

I also wonder same thing. You would think a seal would grab it also.

It would be interesting to spend few minutes interviewing a biologist to ask what the halibut are actually doing when the water temp drops instead of speculating. It adds a deeper layer of content to stand out compared to the other YT channels. Just a thought. Good vid though.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have some of the smaller caught fish tugged with a tracker device so that scientists can track their movements seasonally.

@@robertpage2220 DFW tags them. Privately raised Ca halibut in restocking programs also get a tag which shows their migration movements . Notably one halibut tagged in Manhattan beach CA at 14 inches was caught in Morro bay at 22 inches a few years later showing they can migrate long distances in search of food and optimum water conditions.

Saw this on the beaches of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. A halibut went airborne clear above my friend’s head and we were wading in knee deep water. Bait was flying like shad being chased by largemouth bass in a lake.

@robertpage2220

They do that for sharks, tuna and a number of other species. We don't even a scientist to do it. Sport fisherman who are willing to go through the trouble of training, tagging, and reporting would easily do the job.
@toddramsay977
@toddramsay977 2 жыл бұрын
I would think the halibut would be shallower to get warmer waters from the sun. They wouldn’t go deeper, the water gets colder. I bet the are like bass and spawn in the shallower waters and return to deeper waters after the spawn. Try going inland, get in the 20’ depth or even 15’. Watch RX Fishing channel in TX. He catches flounder similar to Halibut in very shallow water. I bet they are shallow.
