I Updated The Most ICONIC Alliance Weapon In WoW!

Since it's been a while, I decided I would update another weapon from classic wow. Unlike with the Hungering Cold, I used nothing but handpainting to texture this thing.
It being a lot quicker to do something like this, I want to do weapons as a quicker format of videos, which allow me to upload mroe frequently, but also allow me to avoid long upload gaps if I ever want to undertake a megaproject.
Anyway, hope you folks enjoy!

What I really enjoy is seeing how an old model might look today, the bigger the difference the better. Maybe you could do one of the first class sets, or maybe even a random object that everyone has seen on their WoW journey at some point. But it might also be cool to see a seemingly unimportant random mob that everyone knows but never thinks about, being updated. Maybe one of the dinosaurs from Ungoro Crater? Or one of the old Hydra mobs.. idk.

I really like that idea as well. I have even thought about it myself but like you said, Blizzard has been sneakily doing an incredible job of already updating everything over the past years. There are some mobs left that they didn't do I think. Would be worth looking into a bit more! Thanks for your input :)

@@Tomkektv after thinking about models that may not have been updated (not sure if the mob even still exists in the current game) are these dangerous skeletons with scythes for hands, in the Sholomance dungeon. There is a boss with the same mob model called "Rattlegore" i think. The dungeon was changed and updated at some point, and I'm not sure if Rattlegore is still part of the dungeon. And I think those mobs may have only existed in that specific dungeon?... but i'm not sure.

Awesome vid, nice work on the sword. In response to your request for feedback, I enjoy the entire video format you have going now. It's fun to watch and listen to commentary about how you went about creating each model and your thought process on how and why you went certain directions. Then it's just cool to see how it all came together in the end with the short little video.

I love the art and appreciate the nostalgia but your dialogue is what really sells it for me. There are many artists on KZbin and some of them even do wow related stuff, but your sense of humor and ability to entertain stands out from the rest and is a big part of what makes me excited for the next tomkek video. It also makes your content more likable from the perspective of someone who’s never played wow. If you do end up live-streaming anything I would definitely watch it.👍

I for one really enjoy the "drop something big every month or so" instead of more recent content uploads. Makes it more impactful imo. I feel like you could stream the process of creating things as well for more content, that would be something I'd watch (like watching Bob Ross painting stuff on twitch). Up to you how you do your content; either way it's incredible!

I want to say that I enjoy your content the way that it's right now, I realize that youtube doesn't really promote people that do something rarely and as such get the thing of wanting to upload more and the entire process is time consuming. This is why I tend to comment on your videos when I watch them, aside from expressing how awesome they are and what you're doing, and personally I'd not want anything to change when it comes to how your videos are structured as the format you're using, the art, commentary, final show and in-between stuff are very appealing. Unfortunately I don't have a solution on how to make this type of content faster while keeping it to the current standard since all in all it's just time consuming - hence why most 3D artists are working a conventional job in that field I guess... Once more a thank you for the content that you do and I look forward to your next project!

@@Tomkektv same here, your videos are pretty perfect imo. they are long enough to show a lot of interesting steps while you explain the thought process behind your work, sprinkled with humor to keep things entertaining, and they are short enough so you don't get bored. My suggestion to your issue with more regular content would be to maybe try out just streaming the process of making your stuff. Because we of course only see tiny portions of the process, very sped up. and since it takes a lot of time people will likely not be able to stick around for the whole process, but when the video comes out later they'll be like: "Oh yes, i remember this part, so that is how it came out in the end." idk, just some random dude's thoughts who spends too much time on the internet. I'm sure you'll find a way. Keep up the good work man!

Since you asked for feedback: Your videos in general are really cool. The making-of and your comentary is highly enjoyable. Best part is always the painting of textures. Seeing it go from grey to painted is what I like most; you really make that look easy. The presentation of the finished product is also very cool (especially judgement, that was the bomb as it really visualised what paladins are about; gave me shivers)

I love first of all the existing content. First, the artistry involved, but second the humility and absolute subtly-unhinged humor just makes it perfect. You have the perfect balance of explaining what you're doing but just enough dry wit to make it not-too-bland, not-too-contrived. (I have adopted the word 'fucky' in direct response to some of your videos.) I end up smiling, laughing, being in awe and sometimes even being a bit misty (that one nightsaber anyone? you know the one). The cinematics at the end are also amazing and worth looking forward to every time. If you were to add content, I would adore streams. Long form, unedited content from you would be amazing.

Personally the main reason I click the videos is because I want to see the art that you have made, however I watch the whole time as I don't want to miss any of the funny commentary (seriously, don't underestimate this aspect). I love to watch your process as the who aspect of modelling / rigging / painting / shading seems like a dark art to me so I find it fascinating how it is done (pulled the curtain down) and I love every minute you are able to share. I don't personally know if I would be able to catch streams (I live in Australia, so Timezones) but perhaps a start to finish object stream might be nice to add (rather than heavily edit it, so a series of streams where you just unedited do a project from start to finish), but not sure on what the desire for that is. Either way I'm glad you're sharing your work and Blizzard is really sleeping on hiring you for model updates!

I personally really like to see how an old model would look high rez, and as for commentary i really like hearing about what was hard about the project/ just your thoughts and a little history on the item/mount/weapon. So basically everything you already do! And while i definitely prefer the bigger projects, I understand wanting to do smaller ones as well to engage the algorithm. Maybe small stuff like paintings/weapons/statues/recognizable items in the world for smaller videos? If there's one thing I'd comment on it would be the road block that is mentioning your Patreons. I'm a Patreon to another guy who does crafting and painting videos for terrain and models (for D&D and Mordheim and the like) - Devs & Dice . He does some commentary and reads the Patreons out loud while they're rolling past on the screen as he shows some slick shots from his process. Check a video or two from him, I think it's an excellent way to pay respect to the tributers while also keeping the video engaging. Otherwise I can only say - carry on ! Tbh, having no expertise or knowledge regarding how to do content the only thing I always think is that for content creators it’s been the best watching experience when they DONT ask the audience for things/advice and just push their content. I realize this is mostly a non answer but it is at least to say that you just need to trust in you. What you’ve got is already special and so the best path forward can only be gleaned by you. It’s been an absolute pleasure seeing the magic that you’ve got in touching up such wildly venerated bits of content in the wow space.

The judgement set remake will go down in history as a masterpiece. i dont mind these smaller projects from time to time. i enjoy the format you do in making these videos. as for the streaming aspect, if you enjoy what you do then go for it, i just dont know how many people themselves would join to view the slow and tedious process of the artwork unless theyre in that field themselves.

just another awesome video! - seeing this sword next to the grand marshal set really shows how old that set is. perhaps an update is coming? ;) I really enjoy the format and how you comment through the video. The part with the "yellow frog sticking its blue tung out" made me spill my coffee :D /Noxxin

Oh man, if I skipped the Grand Marshall plate set I might as well delete my channel now :D Just a matter of when! I wanna put the time in like I did with Judgment. It's one of the best looking sets of all time, and I was obsessed with it as a kid And yea I have been unable to unsee that frog from the very second I noticed it 🤣 It adds to the design imo

Love the video, keep em coming! With regards to content, the biggest pull is the difference in old vs new but the commentary about you losing your mind as you try to improve is what keeps me from skipping to end (actaully have to ask Asmon for discovering that as in your earlier vids I skipped to the end) Maybe you can do more sets but instead of dumping the whole thing in one video, do shorter individual pieces and showcase them on an "armor stand" like you did in this video, and then at the end of the series do a bigger video with char model and maybe some retrospective commentary. I think it would add more content and also show process of coming back to revise work in progress (dont know if thats what artistic people even do lol)

Looks fantastic as usual! You should do the Sin'dorei Warblade next! It looks so cool but it's definitely showing its age.

So close to perfect.. My gripe lies in the pommel here. It looks cool, but the pommel seemed to provide enough space for your hand, so it could function as more space to grip on the handle of the sword. Some swords actually have this long pommel schtick historically. That made it cooler to me because of that. So not perfect in my book, but very close! Stellar work as always.

More armor/mount/wep updates is the content i'm looking for. Show priest players some love. Please update the most recognized staff Benediction.

Holy shit. This updated weapon makes the armor look like complete garbage. Outstanding work! As for feedback: I ultimately click the video to see the end result. But, watching the process is super interesting and builds more hype for the finished product. The icing on the cake is your commentary. It's both informative and often hilarious. I came to see super-mega-ultra amazing updated content, but I subscribed and stayed for the personality. Keep up the awesome work!
