In this video, we’re going to be making some upgrades to my previously built IoT weather station using suggestions from the comments section. We’ll see how well the weather station performs after the upgrades and I’ve included a link to the public Thingspeak channel below, so you can have a look at the most recently recorded data.

Thanks for posting this. I printed the parts and built this as well. For the wind cups, I superglued a bearing the size of the bottom and machined a coupler from aluminum that fit inside the bottom with a slightly larger bottom half so the cups rest on the coupler. I also dirilled and tapped an M5 hole in the coupler and mounted that to the top. I tested the arrangement with a powerful leaf blower and the wind cups stayed on the coupler without coming off.

WOW, Great Build - This definitely is the way to go! Thanks for all the work (I agree per "Stoner's" comment, a nice add : battery voltage or percentage of battery life)

Great DIY project, one of the best I've seen. Well thought out, & presented. The best ideal, of the internet, shown right here: people giving & receiving ideas, to improve on someone's inventiveness.

Add a rain sensor end air quality sensor :D

This is awesome mate. I see in the comments others have mentione PM 2.5 and wind direction. It would be neat to see it added to a LoRa radio so you could deploy it out a ways from a wifi signal. I am looking ot build something like this for our community garden (about 3km away). Seeing the quality of the resin print makes me want to get one. I have an Prusa Mini (FDM printer) currently. Its good, but your looks amazing.

Michael, another idea that should be simple to implement is noise sensors; assuming the wind turbines are silent.

Very good, I like that you replaced with hall sensor, which is more accurate. I will be also making this weather station, maybe I will use GSM module along as I will place this station to remote area.

great project, now with a solar panel (even if has a low performance) you can add a extra battery to store extra energy and you add others projects maybe a rain sensor wich you can send a notification on your smartphone

Thanks Andre,. Yes, I'd like to still add a rain sensor and an air particle sensor to this.

@@MichaelKlements It will be nice to add a tipping bucket rain gauge and a ultrasonic anemometer sensor reather than having moving parts for mesuring the wind speed. I'm working on adding these things to my weather station

Great project! I know it’s probably overkill but why not add battery voltage or percentage of battery life to the dashboard? Should be easy to program and adds a professional touch to the whole project.
@MichaelKlements
@MichaelKlements 2 жыл бұрын
I was actually going to add this and then I decided against it because the power being drawn from the battery is so low. It'll only use 1% of the battery after two days without any sun, which is highly unlikely in my area. With the panel that I'm using it only needs about 5-6 minutes of sun a day to replace the power used in a day. In short it'll probably just stay at 100% indefinitely. I might still add battery monitoring if I start putting additional sensors onto it.

Thanks Miguel, that's coming. PM2.5 sensors are quite large, so I'll likely add this underneath the solar panel in a future update.

Great project and also Impressive. I would like to follow your project but one step at the time, considering that yours is to much for my knowledge (LOL). I've seen your page but is Full off annoying advertising (LOL). Do you have somewhere a PDF or another site where I can download those instructions? .Thank You & keep up up to date with everything you do. P.S. of course you got another subscriber . Best of Luck

+1 on the wind direction indicator. I live on a private airstrip and this would be a great source of weather information here.

Additional +1 on the wind direction. Would really prefer to doing this as compared to purchasing a kit. This has cleaner lines.

Hello! Congrats on the project. Is your project rain resistant? Does the rain not damage the internal sensors? Thanks!
@MichaelKlements
@MichaelKlements 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It’s somewhat rain resistant, I don’t think it would survive long periods of rain or rain with a high wind speed but it handles rain in my area well. It’s been running for a few months now without any issues.

Damn ! I'd l;ove to build this for my father, but I can't find most component in europe, such as the solar power manager 5v, or you esp32-e board. There are equivalent for the last one tho, But I don't know about its power consumption

I would try it with a LTO cell.
@MichaelKlements
@MichaelKlements 2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried these, they look like something between a lithium ion cell and a capacitor. Have you tried them?
@jodrei7643
@jodrei7643 2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelKlements No, had no need to use them. However, I find this cell type interesting. The voltage is not quite ideal, the voltage is quiet low. If 2 cells are used balancing may needed, or if only one cell is used a step-up like for example TPS610986 is needed. At the moment I'm trying to design my own esp32 ic based board already have the ic's . However, the lto cells should be more durable than normal batteries and it can run even from ~ -40 ° C to ~ 70 ° C , it also has a lower self-discharge than a capacitor and can therefore be use it as a buffer if there is no sun.

add an earthquake sensor

In something with a spinny bit on it, it would be well over 100% inaccurate as an earthquake sensor.
