If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)
If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:
www.evanedinger.com/blog/my-gear
Otherwise: here's a quick list of some of my kit without descriptions from the above link:
Camera: Sony A7siii

@subversiveasset
@subversiveasset 2 ай бұрын
The story of Tom Scott suggesting a title change and it going from 10/10 to 1/10 is so WILD. It basically means that for any set of analytics, you actually cannot conclude anything about the quality of the video itself, because title and thumbnail matter so much as well.
@MartijnPennings
@MartijnPennings 2 ай бұрын
I guess that's why I see more and more polls over the years from youtubers asking: "would you click on this thumbnail/title or that thumbnail/title"? And also; all thumbnails and titles just looking like each other over the years. The wide-eyed open-mouth surprised face, the red circles and arrows, the "you'll be surprised", "top 5 ways to...", "here's what happened!" At a certain point, people find out what the Algorithm wants and everybody starts doing the same...
@subversiveasset
@subversiveasset 2 ай бұрын
@@MartijnPennings KZbin definitely is keen to point out that the Algorithm follows the audience, so it's really more a "what human psychology responds to" thing. What I find especially interesting on these points you raise specifically is that KZbin did release a feature (currently in limited beta so not everyone has it) that allows KZbinrs to test and compare thumbnails. MrBeast got it very early and found out that the "open mouth surprised face" performed *worse* in every test that he ran against a non-open mouth face. So, the data shows that that's not even "the best style" from a human psychological perspective. Overall, I think it goes well with Evan's message -- people also change over time, so it makes sense that tastes could also change.
@Medytacjusz
@Medytacjusz 2 ай бұрын
@@subversiveasset not entirely, the algorithm works both ways as it then reinforces certain impulses, plus in the end, humans have defined its general parametres. It's a feedback loop mechanism that is tweak to serve KZbin's (advertisers') interests. also, I'm not sure if that's just me, but I got a vague feeling when I went Premium the recommendations algorithm changed a bit for me (for the better), maybe because advertiser revenue is not as important for a Premium user.
@subversiveasset
@subversiveasset 2 ай бұрын
@@Medytacjusz I mean, I get if people don't believe KZbin folks when they describe what they think they are building. And I also appreciate that AIs are not fully explainable. But KZbin would consistently say that the recommendations algorithm is not connected to monetization. It doesn't know whether a video is monetized or not, so it is not geared to advertisers from a $$$ perspective. KZbin would say they are trying to pull videos for viewers that they think they want to watch. The "feedback" they get is how viewers respond to those recommendations. It gets back to human psychology. If humans don't click and don't watch certain things, then it won't be reinforced. If they do, then we can't say the algorithm forced humans to do that... (I know this is can be complicated, because advertisers tend to like content that is broadly friendly to general audiences, and an age restriction *does* impact recommendations. But just because an age restriction can often coincide with advertiser unfriendly yellow dollar sign, it's not the latter that reduces recommendations.)

I think what drew me to you was 1) you are a safe male. you are the total opposite of toxic masculinity and you embody the "i'd leave my drink with you in a club" energy and there is something comforting there. As a woman and as a queer woman I just felt safe and comfortable watching your content. I never went away feeling icky or anything. 2) you were an American who wasn't obnoxious. I think with the amount of US content that is often consumed within the UK we deffo feel that Americans are a bit much like their energy is not it and we are like "hunny no" and you didn't feel like that and it was nice because I was able to learn about US culture without feeling like I am gonna get a headache from a wild over the top personality. 3) I just like you and your energy and the fact that you were smart enough to change your content with your audience and you understood that clinging onto the past and clinging on to the content that initially got you trajectory was not always going to age well and that you would need to change and adapt. In short. you were smart, savvy and comforting and I just love your vibe and that's what keeps me coming back to your videos. Well done on 10 years. here's to another ten. keep doing you xx

This, exactly. As a queer disabled AFAB person I feel like I'm tiptoeing through KZbin these days - while it still has a great strike rate for finding me new stuff I'll like, and digging up KZbinrs I used to like but had lost track of, it's also been suggesting more videos where the KZbinr either casually veers into racism or homophobia, or the title/thumbnail shows it's about something like trans issues, but it's not apparent til I watch that it's coming from a really harsh and bigoted perspective. I always feel with Evan's videos that he's got an ethos of drawing people in rather than erecting walls to keep people out, and that's the beauty of the platform, when it's at its best.

Hi Evan, I think I’m one of those viewer anomalies that perhaps skew your analytics a bit. I’m a 62 year old female and I’ve been watching for several years. I’ve no idea how I started but I like watching intelligent KZbinrs and you are clearly that. I live in Ireland but was born and raised in England and also lived in New Jersey for a few years, giving birth to two kids whilst there, which meant I felt a sort of connection to you and your journey. I’ll confess that I don’t watch every video, but I dip in and out regularly and will usually watch the whole video. I enjoy your content and find it to be well thought out, well considered and well presented. Keep doing what you’re doing and I wish you many happy years. PS…Get your mum back here again, it was a pleasure seeing the two of you together. Oh and I’m so glad to see the hair cut off, I’ve been longing to creep up behind you with a pair of scissors, sorry that sounds very creepy. You look so much better with a short cut again. By the way I only noticed last week that your name is Edinger not Erdinger. I’ve been mentally adding an r to your name since forever, no idea why. Anyway, all the best to you. ❤️

Our interests and lives have had similar trajectories and it's been great always having a youtuber to aspire to! I can't stand that 1/10 thing, the sadness I feel at 10/10 isn't proportional to how happy I am with 1/10. Plus I've had 10/10's then end up being 1/10 a few months later! I've been on KZbin since 2017 so maybe in 2027 I'll do something similar. 👏👏

I myself discovered your KZbin channel just after the 1st wave of you know what, while I was out for a walk in North Greenwich on a walkway that follows the Thames, contemplating my situation that while the UK was starting to open up my home country (I am an American expat who lives in China long-term ) was still closed to the outside world and I was basically trapped in the UK This situation lasted about a year that first time around. Me being here and my wife being there. And your KZbin channel of a fellow American also being in the UK was one of a few that helped me keep my mental health at least somewhat stable. While all that is now in the past I’ve not quit on those KZbin people whose content helped me. Plus living in China I appreciate Western content providers a lot. So thanks Evan for all your content Plus you’re from Jersey and while I am originally from Long Island, I did live and work in Jersey for many years too so of course I’m going to support ya 😂

Oooooof this is gonna be a loooooong comment 😅 Not quite sure when I found your channel (maybe ‘17/‘18) but I found and binged all of your BvA videos probably in the span of 3 days. Even though it was a conversation between you and a friend it very much felt to me like I was included and I got to share my input as a girl from a small town in STX. Since then I’ve not only watched your videos consistently, but also found some interesting Brit channels along the way. I’ve since noticed your evolution and find it funny that our interests line up. Since finding your channel, I’ve earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree, got my dream job with CDC, moved to the big city (Houston), and started a family. Thank you for this video; thank you for reminding me to reflect on everything that I’ve gone through in the last 6-ish years. Your videos always allow me to think in a way that’s natural (never forced) and I always enjoy it. As of now you’re probably one of 3 YT I watch, maybe not on the day of uploading but at some point throughout the week. I feel now that YT just isn’t the place for me as it just doesn’t keep me engaged like it used to. Maybe bc I’m a 28F 🤷‍♀️ or maybe bc a lot of the people I grew up with have since left the platform? Anyways….. this was just a long winded way of saying thanks! Thanks for your many years of great content, thanks for growing, and thanks for continuing to have passion about the topics you speak on. I’m not sure if I’ll always find your content relevant to me or about things that directly affect my life, but I know that I’ll appreciate the effort you put into making a video because even as someone who has NO idea about anything editing related, I know passion and the desire for perfection when I see it.

You were open, vulnerable, REAL. Everyone else was too afraid to be emotional, or to even talk about it at all. But it was something that needed to be talked about, and you came out and did that. And I think how I viewed you from then on is the reason I am still here today. I don't watch everything you make anymore, as I spend less time on KZbin and do a bit more cherry picking, but I do always check out what you've put out to see if I want to watch it. From all the KZbinrs I used to subscribe to and watch, it was you and Hannah Witton I stayed with this entire time (still sad to see Hannah go). I think because your content grew up along with me. KZbinrs who kept making the same type of content eventually weren't interesting to me anymore. But here I am, still always waiting to see what you do next!

Congratulations on uploading every Sunday for 10 years!! I’ve been watching your channel since the early days, starting as early as your news story videos and undergrad vlogs. I have always enjoyed your channel and I look forward to seeing where another 10 years will bring you!

I started watching your videos in 2022 so I’m a relative newcomer to your channel. I’m a few years older than you and I’ve lived in London my entire life. What keeps me coming back to your channel is your likability and the wide range of topics that you cover in your videos. I thought your recent videos on housing and urban planning were particularly good and I hope that you do more of this type of investigative journalism content in the future. Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary of Sunday uploads. Here’s to the next 10!

Wow, cutting your hair made you look 5 years younger. Lol. Glad you'll still be around, Evan. Too many KZbinrs have been retiring lately. Congrats on 10 years! I've been watching since 2015. :)

I urge you to take a proper break ...go on a long vacation, where you're not having to worry about making content, uploading videos etc. And just enjoy yourself. You deserve it. As an older woman ( 70) I find you enjoyable and refreshing to watch.. and I wish you well for the future. I don't want to have notifications of any KZbinrs, . I just watch them when I want..I don't need reminders.. Just do your thing Evan and your audience will stay with you/ grow and change as you do. Congratulations

I found your content back in 2017 when I was looking to move to the UK from Canada. I've now been here for 5.5 years and have enjoyed your take on content throughout the years. The balance between light-hearted content, current events and showing your passions has kept me here. Congratulations on 10 years!

I found you due to a combination of the early American vs British and your UK citizenship content and stayed. I think I like it so much because they all seemed "real". I can't watch a lot of KZbinrs today because the content seems staged or maybe overly scripted when involving real life stuff. Your content has always resonated as genuine with me (even though I am sure there were scripts involved). I just want to say thanks, and long may it continue.

I watched this video this morning whilst getting ready for work and have been thinking about it all day. So had to come back and make sure to leave a comment for the algorithm 😄 I always look forward to an Evan video, have done for the past 2 or so years now. I’d say Evan and Grackle are the only two KZbinrs I watch avidly these days. This video touched all the heart strings and I loved the touch of changing settings for each of your eras. And the mic change?! Very TS coded!! Looking forward to the new era and hopefully Evan creating content he is passionate about and loves making, without the Sunday deadline stress every week ❤

Evan you’re a star. I’m in the male/UK/old git demographic. Which means I’ve been always in the 1-4.6 part of your watchers. Because I don’t watch any channel religiously, I’m almost completely unimportant. But I dip in now and then which helps skew the stats. Thanks for all your devotion making consuming videos with a usually high degree of quality on interesting topics and charismatic professionalism. Cheers ! 🍷

Congrats on 10 years! I met you and subscribed at a small youtube gathering in Bath back in 2012 when I was at university (I feel very old typing that). I still cherish my 2010-2014 memories, even some of the bigger youtubers came to these gatherings and I made some really good freinds. Interesting and nostalgic looking back at the 'early years'. I'm not on youtube so much these days and yes i've definitely changed a lot as well. I think it's that change that has allowed me to stick around. On the odd occasion I do log in, it's always nice to see your familiar face and watch a few videos. I might not help improve your stats much but I'm here for the duration.
