Never be ashamed or apologize for how you decide to support your family. If it doesn't violate the law or your morals, making money to feed your family is honorable. Congratulations on your hustle!

I also wish I had this option when my kids were little. My husband had a traditional job. I couponed, cleaned houses and did secret shopping in movie theaters and stores. Between them all I made was much as I would have working 40 hours a week. Plus I set my own hours and had no childcare costs. Now we are retired and also no debt

Me too! I got lucky and early in my journey the newsletter by Amy Dacyczyn started. It was so helpful and saved us from losing everything. We learned powerful lessons from her. I never found anyone to replace her once she stopped her newsletter. But i deeply respected her reasoning for stopping and retiring from work outside the home until her children were grown. Then I believe she did volunteer work.

I just turned 60 in October. My husband and I are debt free and we have a small homestead. Our daughter is graduating with her doctorate in pharmacy in may. She’s doing a residency program for a year and that only pays about 1/4 of what she would normally make. We are still supporting her but once she finishes her residency we plan to move near her in Florida. We own several properties and plan to sell them and just settle in to a life in Florida. We are in Florida all the time, we have a small property there. It’s just some land. But we are very much at home in Florida. I have a spinal injury from a plane crash an I developed psoriatic arthritis so we realized that every time we went to Florida my pain level dropped. So not only will we get to live near our daughter hopefully I can feel better and be able to do more. Maybe I’ll finally get our channels going. You definitely can get a channel to make a profit. Many people want to see what it takes to become debt free. I say you have to want it bad enough and just be weird , cheap just like you said. I can’t tell you how many people thought we had lost our minds when we sold our big suburban home and moved to a paid for homestead. We didn’t go or do anything for about 2 years. It was all about getting debt free and being able to send our daughter to pharmacy school. It was her dream and we promised to make it happen on our part. An she lived up to her part. University Florida ! I’m so proud of her. I have 3 daughters and All have successful careers. But honestly I would be proud of them no matter there career choices. It’s good to just have raised good people. Life is a blessing! But it’s also what you make it. Congratulations on working so hard and making your life debt free! Please share your ideas with the younger generation. An even older they can break free from debt to. It’s never too late.

I made very little money on YT in 2023 as I only have around 2200 subs, but I will say this; the minute you start making money on this platform, set 30% aside in a tax account. Not that your taxes will be that high, but put up 30% anyway. Anything less is a bad idea.

As for sponsors-for heavens sake do them all. If they’re giving you money up front take it and do the “advertisement”. If someone watching your vid doesn’t like the product or want it they can zip past it! It’s not like they’re stuck there. Never pass up a way to make extra money. Look to the future. Someday camper living will get old. Onward and upward!

I guessed 18-20k for 2023 base on your subs and views so it was a tad over. Some of the channels my husband follows have anywhere from 2-4million subscribers and are car related. One of them makes over 3 million a year and has been doing videos since 2013. He has a few million worth of cars and just had a +$3 million custom home built with an insane garage. I watch different channels with most of them being travel or food related and the spectrum is quite different with most of them probably inline with your channel. I don’t subscribe to too many channels but did subscribe to help you out. Keep up the good work!

There are more than a few out there trying to do the same. I like that you are more about working with what you have available. You bought the land and that is the most important. The infrastructure will come overtime but the reality is most new homesteaders don't have the means to build huge gardens and barns and the like. It has to be a labor of love. Best of luck and good on you for reaching for a better way of life for your little one and yourselves.

$12k I guess based on your $1k/mo budget goals. I was close! I feel the exact same way about not wanting to become a living commercial on youtube. I wanted to make videos to help and inspire others. I wanted it to be totally commercial free so I wasn't going to monetize. Then one day I realized youtube was puttting commercials on my videos anyway even though I wasnt monetizing them. :-/ So I monetized. But I barely have time to make videos, much less try to turn it into an income stream. And I hate watching videos where people lace them with commercials and sponsorships.

I actually guessed correctly! I sure wish I could get my channel off the ground. I have 2 channels. One is ( cabin life at Eden springs) so it’s a homestead channel. But I have a husky channel. ( four husky homestead). Only we lost our pearl. Our beautiful white husky back in July she had kidney failure. And that just devastated us. We have struggled to get a final video up for her. But we are about to post it , it’s been 6 months. And that happens with me a lot, I am disabled from a plane crash. So I have a spinal injury. And my health will get me down a lot or something like losing a family member really gets me down. I miss pearl so much m I can’t even type this without crying, but I’m just ready to be strong and go forward with life. Pearl would want that. She was such a sweet husky, I’m trying, mind over matter. I want my husky channel to grew so I can use any profits to help animals. There is such a huge need with animals. So anything that channel would make will go to help Gods Animals. The homestead channel I really would like to make a profit to help us here on the homestead. We are moving to Florida next year but we are going to another homestead. Which means we are selling a gorgeous property up on the Tennessee river if anyone is interested. Just message me and I’ll get you all the information. I love it ! It has springs and water runs throughout the properties. It’s actually 2 addresses but they are side by side and we will sell them together. I’m really glad you did so well. It gives me hope. You really grew your channel so much in a year. Just think about what it will be like if you grew that much in 2024. And you can , you could totally double your subscribers. Congratulations! An thank you for sharing and giving hope to us who would like to have a profitable channel. God bless ! LA

Both KZbin and Instacart send 1099’s, so it is super easy to file but I do have to pay self-employment tax on these earnings. It is recommended you save back 30% for taxes. If you receive a child tax credit and earned income tax credit, however, and depending on your income, you may still receive a refund after your taxes are accounted for.
