I had issues with the autofocus on this video, for some strange reason my Canon EOS R kept focusing on the grass even though eye autofocus was on. Just shows you cant always rely on technology to do things for you!

Used to own a 450D and I loved it - truly great camera for its time!

Do you still have it? Maybe a future video!

My first and only camera is a canon 4000d. The quality of the screen is pretty poor but I quite like the anticipation of going home, loading up my pictures to my laptop and seeing what shots were in focus. When using extension rings and macro filters my working distance was about half an inch and most shots were not in focus. However since buying a second hand Sigma 105mm it's so much easier to take photos and I'm finally getting shots I'm pleased with . Thanks for another great video Stewart!

Great video, I started with a 2000d and only recently moved up to a 90d. Which lowepro pro-tactic were you using?. I'm trying to decide which size but can't find anywhere to try one for size, so knowing which you were using would really help. Thanks

Thank you, I use the Lowpro ProTactic BP 450 AW II, I have a lot of gear doing KZbin video as well.

Cool video mate! I Just got back into photography recently and picked up a cheap 500d. Never used a modern camera so i don't know what i'm missing out on ;)

I've started with a 600D, a Nifty Fifty and the extension tubes and a flash with a Pringles dose on it to get the light in direction of the insect. It was great. :D

Wow! That brings back memories! Not with the same camera but with a very early digital camera - And we thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread! Mind you, if you think that shoot was difficult, you should try going back to a non-digital camera - where you didn’t know if you’d got the shot till after the film was processed 😳 lol

I was thinking of doing that but the cost would be too high for now, maybe when the channel is bigger.

I bought my first EOS (Canon 550d) as a "Christmas present" in 2010 and the spring after my old faithful Sigma 180mm 3.5 macro. my 550d stopped "living" in January 2022 after more than 1.5 million shots It is on the shelf today as a lovely memory of millions of mosquitoes and swamp water up to the chin time will tell if my new camera 90d will get the same status, but so far it has surprised me on the positive side.

Awesome, I hope mine don’t stop “living”

I'm thinking of getting the crafty bells diffuser, and was wondering what size yours is because they only sell small and large.

I used the small twin flash bonnet.

True about modern gear but I find myself also using my old 35mm film gear more and more for the Zen experience. For me it's like the nostalgic pleasure of driving a classic car. And my pictures are no worse than they were in 1988 when my camera was the G.O.A.T. :)

Your final results were better than many of my attempts with 1-2 year old equipment, which must mean I am suffering from operator error. That looked like a lot of fun. On the other hand, playing catch with your expensive gear made me cringe; I shall eschew such family fun. Thanks for your tips and entertainment.

Hi Stewart! I had the 'pleasure' of using a 400D a about four years ago when I first started doing photography. To be honest it wasn't bad for its age. The camera I've got now isn't much younger to be honest, but I think I've gone up in the world a bit since then. I now use a Nikon D90. It still doesn't have the flippy screen though, so that's a bit of a pain in the arse. I am hoping to be able to invest in a macro lens, because at the moment I'm using a Nifty Fifty with a Raynox 250. It's not bad but could be better. Trouble is I'm only going to have about £400 to invest, so I'm hoping to be able to get something half decent.

Thank you, take a look at a second hand Laowa 100mm or sigma 150mm lens.

I agree they looked bloody great, I started with the OM10 and then upgraded to the Canon Eos 600. In fact I still have that camera gathering moisture down in my pump room.
