I Used a REAL PIKE as BAIT and Something Amazing Happened! (BIG FISH)

In this session we look at the time i used a PIKE as bait. The fishing has been hard recently with the freezing temperatures causing all the still waters to freeze over! I decided it was the perfect time to take a look at some footage I got back in October when I used a pike as dead bait. This was just before the floods, so I never had the chance to finish the video off properly, but this isn't the only action i still managed to catch something from the frozen canal before the end of the video too!

I'm 44, my granddad took me fishing the second I could walk and I'm still fishing. I fished with nets, lines, lures, baits, sea, salt, crabbing, everything that came to my possibilities. Catching crab in a net is called fishing. Cathing a wild pike in a handnet, is damn good fishing . Catching a big ass pike with a pike on a pike needs to be a story for the next decades in a pub close to where it happened ❣ In the local dialect we call it in french : doublé

In the good old days, when I lived in Scotland, I used to fish a wee loch by a rail line. It was full of nice perch and even rumoured to have carp and roach in it. I used to use an earth worm on the surface to catch jack pike and then use them to live bait for bigger pike. They were very effective. Much better than live perch I sometimes used. I would take some perch and even a pike home to eat. They were very tasty!

Whats also amazing is that you got it all on camera! Many years ago in the 70s, as a teenager, i used to fish for carp using worms, once i caught a small pike on worm and as i was playing it, a bigger pike bit into the smaller pike and wouldn't let go. I netted them both. The same year, and you will like this Chris, i caught, on worm, a 4lb 12oz perch for which i won the club trophy, which i still have today.

Woah!!! My biggest one is on a float in this september it was 920 grams near a kilogram i think its about 2lb and my float rods line was damaged it had 2 knots and still landed it :D

Amazing video as always chris, i myself might be one of a rare few that uses only barbless trebles lure fishing, ive had a few big fish throw the hooks and elude me but more bad hookups even on barbless that ive had to cut the hookpoints out to remove. Before i get any flack its a personal preference and im not hating on barbed hooks, each to their own. Ive recently been using palatrax gripz trebles and they have so far proved way more effective than standard barbless, worth a try for one of your videos maybe …

Hell yea it counts! 50 years ago, my father and brother were trout fishing in a stream below a flow that came out of a 100 acre lake that was well known for big pike, pickerel, small mouth bass, and perch. Halfway down this trout stream my father nudged my brother in the side, as they were quietly walking to the edge of the stream to cast a line in the water. My father points and whispers to my brother, " is that a log, or is it a fish"? My brother whispers back, " I think it's a log". My says, "let me thrown a small stone and see if I can hit it, then see if it reacts. So, he throw's the stone and sure enough it is a huge fish. They think it maybe a Northern Pike that washed over the falls from the Flow. My father slipped behind the beast and threw a large rock and struck it in the head, killing it instantly. After getting out of the water, they tried to measured the length of the fish but the scale was to short. My father was 5'8" tall. When he held his arm straight up, the fishtail was still dragging the ground! They tired to weigh the fish too but the max weight on small hand scale my dad carried was 40lbs. It was a beast. Before getting back to the house, my father took a tiny little dry fly and stuck in the corner of the pikes mouth and told the story my brother caught the pike on a flyrod in a tiny little stream. Everyone was stunned!! Finally, someone mentioned they should take the fish to a town 50 miles away because it may be a state record for NY state. So, they took off running to where they left the pike with the caretake of the property. They were too late. He had already butchered the fish and cut it into steaks. They did manage to save the head and had it mounted. You could fit a softball inside the mouth opening of that fish. My brother told me he thought the fish was starving to death because it wasn't moving at all when they found it. Love that story. I have told it many times over the years. I always think of my father who was the best fisherman I ever knew. And my brother, who loved a great story just as much as I do. Rest in peace guys! Alan from N

Amazing as always matey yeah that counts fishing covers many bases weather be rod an line or net so consider that a pat on the back's worth I've only ever seen a 6 year old at a local pond do that (net a beast)whilst I was fishing/blanking for pike will be nice to see your tutorial as I haven't had many deep hooked an when i found someone elses rig once i couldn't get to it as i didnt know the stomach could come out completely didnt wanna hurt the fish 😢 keep the videos coming love it 👍
