As a house cleaner I have tried to encourage my clients to reduce their stuff making cleaning easier and cheaper for them. Even if you have the room for stuff you may not have the mental room to know where all of it is.

Amen!!!! I have terrible PTSD depression anxiety perfectionist "freeze" yada yada yada........i overthink and ruminate and just get so immobilized and EXHAUSTED. I have git to give myself more grace and let it go. I was conditioned w/ guilt and controlled with rage so it made me live in fear, in this place of subconcious thinking that LIFE MUST BE HARD EARNED, I SONT DESERVE EASE, etc. It truly manifests in my lack of believing Im allowed to live in a peaceful, still, clean, uncluttered home. But Im getting better. I appreciate this channel very much.

I have watched this video several times over the past few days because it resonates so much with me. After seeking minimalism for six years, I live minimally but have been holding onto too much STILL. I feel sad no one else pitches in and that there is too much for me to do. After I’m done tidying, there’s no time or energy to CLEAN. Your idea of having so little that it is “stupid easy” to clean hit me so hard and gave me the courage to let go of a lot of “just in case” items that have been holding me back. That truth was the piece I needed. Thank. You. SOOO. Much for your sensible, no nonsense, truthful, understanding words. They’re changing my life! Thank you!!! I’m excited to have minimal tidying so I can get to the scrubbing that never gets done.

You're so right! When there's stuff everywhere it's hard to even think about cleaning surfaces! It's taking forever to change my habits. But it's getting easier! When there's a million things my mind has to think to do it's overwhelming to do any. But less clutter makes noticing what needs to be put away or cleaned easier and more importantly make me want to do it without thinking about it.

I grew up with a mum who is a hoarder and can go through spells of not wanting to clean, when I moved out I was relieved only having to clean my own mess untill life got busier and busier and busier I tried to keep up with seasonal clear outs, spring cleans etc but even so living alone trying to juggle work, cooking, socialising, working on projects outside of work became a race for time... Today I finally got a cleaner to help me out it took her 3hours to straighten out the place and reorganise my kitchen and space maximise... I guess I still need to try and get rid of more stuff like whatt she says at *5:23*... I prefer when my house is spotless and clutter free it makes me more productive and less anxious...

I can't express in words how much your videos are helping to calm my mind. I'm struggling with dysthymia and anxiety.. I'm not able to maintain the house, doing basic chores. I decluttered a bit.. still I'm having difficulty in sticking to daily routines. Everything is messy and dirty rn dishes piled up in sink.. lot of laundry to do. I'm lacking self-care.. I need to take care of kid, manage her online classes. I'm constantly blaming myself for being this way. I'm feeling so overwhelmed right now. I don't know where to start.. your videos are giving me little hope that I can improve my situation. All I can say is thank you for existing sharing your thoughts. Lots of love God bless you ❤️❤️❤️

Recruit the family. It is their house too..The kids need to learn how to keep clean home so their roommates wont evict them. Your husband is part of your team. If he has to help, he will think twice before leaving a mess. If each of you does 30 minutes times the number of people it turns into a few collective hours. Decluttering will free up moving the items. Chances are the kids have outgrown it or is in the way because it no longer serves a purpose. Do things as you go, so you are not time debting with messes that happened last week.

As a kid it was "weird" and old-fashioned. I thought, geeze life must've been so boring...well of course it was not. They just lived fuller lives i think WITHOUT CONSUMERISM. This fascinates me, and the snippets of your home in this video allude to that.

Long ago, someone from a large family said they were only allowed to use 1 glass a day. Since it was just me and my husband, he got one colored glass and I got another (or you could do a certain color thick rubber band around a glass). It worked! I would look for my glass and use it throughout the day and he would do the same. Only 2 glasses to deal with each day!

You know I think me and my wife have let our house go. So far it's not even a house. It's just an apartment. And it's literally so messy that I dread working on it everyday. And I work 12 hour days so it's really hard to come home and work on cleaning. And I think for a long time I keep blaming my wife for not helping me clean but. I really need to just focus on what I can do because that's all I can change . And to be fair here, I don't do nearly as much as I probably could. Probably because it's gotten so bad that I don't even want it to deal with it. But I've had a couple days off from work since I work 12-hour days, but I've only devoted a couple hours each day to cleaning when I should have cleaned up the whole day. But like I said, it's so bad once I start cleaning it's like overwhelming . We have mice cockroaches, and so the more I clean, the more filth I uncover . I don't even know how we ever let it get this bad.

I'm not sure if you have a video about this, but my mom used to wait until we went to school and she'd go through our toys and get rid of the ones SHE didn't like (aka noisy ones), taking away all our choice in the matter. As a result, three of my siblings and I tend to hoard, I'm thinking more out of control issues than actually wanting the things we have. Also, she's really good at judging us passive aggressively with comments like "I know you tryyy", which, in my case, makes me dig my heels in further to not be like her. If you haven't been asked about anything similar, is this a potential topic that can be covered? Thanks!

As a parent, I can tell you that I have tried this method (involve the kids) in choosing what to get rid of, and they NEVER want to get rid of anything. Kids are natural hoarders. It became overwhelming for me to involve them. Trust me - kids do not want to get rid of any of their shit. LOL Best thing to do is to box it up and store it instead of getting rid of it. Give it a month, and if the kids don’t ask for a specific toy, then you can safely get rid of it. But to ask them to decide - not a good tactic.

My husband complains all the time, I do all of the cooking, we both work at the same place with the same amount of hours. My husband is constantly pulling me away from cleaning, he will spill something and tell me about it and I will clean it. I get him up for work, bring him coffee and breakfast, have food for us at work, I can go on and on. His excuse is, he is busy doing outside work"men work". And I cant expect him to do a woman's job. That I am taking his manhood away if he has to help me. His clothes are so hard to fold because they are so big compared to me, and many need to be ironed. I want to get rid of everything, but he wont let me. I am to a point I can hardly do anything because my health is declining and I have anxiety from him pulling me away from task plus I have ADD and a daughter that I handle almost everything for.

That sounds really difficult. I would recommend couples counseling so you can talk about it and hopefully be able to communicate all this in a way he understands so your health doesn't continue to decline. ❤️

What if I’m the kid that has to do this stuff? I’m so tired, I just don’t know what to do. My parents don’t do much, they never taught my siblings how to clean up after themselves, I’m so lost I don’t know what to do I feel so gross in my own home, it feels like a junk yard. I don’t know what to do

What do suggest to the wife who’s husband wants to keep everything but wants to manage nothing? I’ve decluttered down my stuff and my husband hardly got rid of anything. He has the majority of our stuff. We live in less than 900 square feet and it is stressful. I’m a stay at home mom so I see his junk every day, all day. He works long hours so he feels very little of the effect that he is making by keeping so much.

I would say have a heart-to-heart to tell him exactly that, how it makes you feel, that you see it all the time, etc. Most couples can reach a compromise of the collector having their own space. Sounds difficult in a small house, but maybe a garage or shed is a possibility. If you don’t feel like you can have a candid conversation so he understands what is going on in your mind, and what you hope for, then hiring a counselor is a great option, to just have someone mediate so it’s not a heated argument. ❤️

I'm sorry, that sounds really hard. We can't change other people, so if it were me, I would probably focus on keeping my personal space the way I like it, and work toward moving out. ❤️

I agree with everything you've said, however Question 1) Now you can train your children to put away their own junk and declutter. Give them consequences. Question 2) Every email and video is a commercial for your program; why should I pay for this when there is so much free information on decluttering sites, not to mention the library? I don't begrudge you a living, but I've heard this info for free.

Hi Jennifer! So... #1. Yes, absolutely we can train our children, that's very important. My point was, we can't expect them to have good tidy habits if we have never had good tidy habits. #2. There is a lot of free info, and for some people, that's all they need. People take my courses because want step-by-step guidance, are able to ask me questions and get help through the process. The accountability makes a big difference as well. 💕

@@Nourishingminimalism I think your course would be well worth it for the structure and accountability. Not good timing for me, but I know there will be lots of good in detail info. God bless.
