Hi. Just wanted to say... anyone who is struggling with anxieties after being diagnosed with barrets or worried about developing it I understand completely what you are going through. I hardly ever post comments on youtube vids but today I just want people to know that the biggest fear sometimes can be fear itself. I struggle with major anxiety over different things in life and 5 years ago roughly I had 2 endoscopies. First endoscopy said I had 2 cm barrets but my biopsies were normal. After having some really scary symptoms including things like sudden weight loss I was referred for an urgent endoscopy. This one showed no evidence of barrets and my biopsies were normal. The hardest thing imo to do is trying not to worry and control anxiety. This for me was almost impossible but the best thing to do which worked for me was keeping active with work and exercise. Difficult to do when I was frozen with fear and spent nearly 2 months sitting in an arm chair worrying and chewing it over in my mind but I managed to get back into my work and my sport Thaiboxing and this helped loads with anxiety. Controlling anxiety is extremely important with physical health. I'm not a health proffessional but anyone wanting to chat about their worries is welcome. I'll check in every couple days on here

Drink blue diamond almond milk, 30 calories per glass has a measured PH of 8.8, the same Silk almond is 7.5 PH, buy a liquid testing PH meter, you will be surprised at how many liquids are very acidic, also sleep at an angle, and chew sugar free gum often helps a lot. Take 2 DGL 20 minutes before meals and eat low acid foods, no large meals, coffee, and limit or no alcohol.

I'm so glad i found this. I just was diagnosed with Barrett's (over 1cm) no dysplasia. My dr only said "you have beretts im giving you antacids and you will take it long term" i asked what long term is, "A year" he says. i don't like taking meds. At all, they are horrible for me i always have side effects. So now im working with him to use the PPI for short term and do a life style change but its almost a face of "Why would you not do that?" From the Research i did there is NO proof that it stops barrettes from spreading. Okay, then i'll take care of the GERD that is effecting my barrets, but why do i need to take a pill for the rest of my life for that? when i only had Acid Reflux i was told "Don't eat this and don't eat past this time" But now im being put on meds? like...can someone just tell me what i am suppose to do? PPI is for acid, not for barrettes, so then why rely on something for a year and "Might" be able to wean off of when at that time it could be too late because my body relies on it....uhhg this is stupid. and whos to say i wasn't misdiagnosed too?

I'm overdue a scope but sure would like this Dr to do it. My Dr says you have a. 0001% chance of developing cancer due to weight, no smoking and no alcohol. I have no idea what caused it then. I out on a few lbs and was getting a little heartburn but after they found this I'm back to 185lbs at 6'2. I read low dose aspirin Lowers your risk of esphogeal cancer as well and all GI cancer. My biopsy doesn’t show pre-cancerous cells, but the area looks like Barretts. I was diagnosed with Barrett’s 4 years ago. Two years ago it was gone. So, when they tell us the esophagus looks like Barrett’s so they biopsied, and it thankfully isn’t pre-cancerous, what is it they are seeing?

Best advice- do lots of research on preventing progression to AC! It makes me furious that doctors act like this is NBD! Yes, progression to Adenocarcoma is fairly rare, but if it happens to you, it’s devastating and deadly, and it DOES happen! Things I’ve learned by doing research online: * Low folic acid is a risk factor. Supplementing with folate might be a good idea. * High B-12 is a risk factor. Might want to limit supplementation. *Higher fiber and the other B vitamins are associated with lower risk. * Antioxidants are important. I’m taking tart cherry juice daily. * Plenty of fruits and vegetables is a good idea for fiber and antioxidants. * High beef consumption and especially HEME IRON SUPPLEMENTS are implicated in progression risk! Wish to Hell someone had told me that before I took them for 6 months! * Gallbladder issues are a risk factor, especially gallbladder removal! Best to learn the symptoms and research how to improve bile flow, if you might have issues! *If you have a hiatal hernia, search for ways to repair it yourself. Best tip- don’t just rely on what your doctor tells you- do your own research! (Don’t take my advice either- do your research.) It’s YOUR life! Barrett’s isn’t a death sentence, and with lifestyle tweaks, you can keep it from progressing and maybe even reverse it! Also- manage your anxiety and don’t obsess about the what-ifs! You can make yourself crazy (I have)!

Hello, Dr. Koufman. In the Danish paper you mention, the authors state "Bile has been shown to induce inflammation and cell proliferation in the oesophageal mucosa, and recent in vitro studies have shown a possible increased mutagenic effect associated with alkalisation of refluxed bile.27-29 Hence - although further studies are necessary - PPI use may facilitate the formation of carcinogenic bile acids, explaining some of our findings." Wouldn't this suggest that creating an alkaline environment with alkaline water could actually increase the risk of Barrett's Esophagus, just ask PPI use reduces the acidity of the stomach?

What about surgery to repair in order that acid not back into the esophagus?
@candacerushing6882
@candacerushing6882 Ай бұрын
The satisfaction rate for that surgery is low. Many people need more surgery within a year or more. Search KZbin for videos on how to fix it yourself. I am currently drinking 16oz of very warm water right before I go for my 3 hour walk. Relaxing your muscles and using weight to pull your stomach down actually helps. Chiropractors can adjust this, too, and show you how. If you can learn to pull it into place and then do exercises to strengthen your diaphragm, you can improve it a lot. Then you can acidify your stomach so the Lower Esophageal Sphincter can close, and you won’t have GERD. Good luck!

1stepatatyme lose any excessive weight, do not smoke, stop all alcohol, watch what foods you eat, never eat after 6pm, raise your bed up the head board 10" so gastric acid does not flow into your esphogus at nights. After a meal don't lay down for 1 hour. Take a low dose aspirin will help cut down on risk of cancer. I know crazy but studies have proven it. They say no carbonated or caffeine soda but I would die not can coke. Also minimize your consumption of coffee. Drink lots of alkaline water each day. So does that mean, the doctor who did the biopsy lied ? Or should the patient had another biopsy again ? This is NOT FAIR for the patient and end up scared for nothing . The G.I. only tells the patient that they have barrett's just to make more $$$$$. Like someone told me , it's all about the money. *Why can't Specialist be HONEST to the patients* . I personally knew 2 men who had Esophageal Cancer ,they died like days apart , they wasn't related at all , they lived in 2 different states. I did go to one of the funeral, and to this day , it has bothered me , 24/7 for the last 2 years . I have GERD , Silent Acid reflex or like the Jamie has another name for it . Anyways all I want is to get healed with Acid Reflex and Erosion Esophagus. In 3 days I'll be going to an G.I doctor ( who only does test ) . He has practitioners working in his office.
