Don’t stress out about it, most of us have made similar mistakes, that’s how we learn. Option 2 is the way to go, you will then have a truck that you won’t have to worry about. Keep your chin up and all the best with the future.
@hobo14524 жыл бұрын
I gotta say that I have always had a huge amount of respect for anyone who steps right up and owns their mistake without finger pointing or cover up's. A mistake is only a shame if you don't learn from it. You gained a lot of useful knowledge from the first International, and it still has a great parts potential. Go with option 2. It's the choice that makes the most sense. Any vehicle that was bought and maintained by any branch of our military is a safe bet in my book.
@ItsBBP4 жыл бұрын
2- Though there is a lot of love in this truck, This looks like the time to put brakes on the old project that is not fully possible, I'd like to see you get that other truck and use all the good parts in the international to fix it up, At the end of it you could end up with a completely fixed up truck, and another tripped completely down to be used for another project,

Option 2: make 1 good truck out of the two. Part out the it’s you don’t need. Rebuild the Cummings motor to showroom condition then find something to put it in. It was a learning curve dude, we’ve all been there.
@bdc72734 жыл бұрын
I like option two. Although I would repaint it white like your current truck cause I absolutely love the way it looks. Swap all the good, chrome parts over to the better condition truck. If you can make the second truck look like the current international, I would love to see option 2.
@Flattlander4 жыл бұрын
It takes spine to admit when you’re in too deep. Though I admit I joined the channel to watch that build, part of the draw initially was how you were going to bring a truck back that’s so far gone. My opinion is to stop the bleeding. Stop putting good money after bad. I’d reboot with the Air Force truck simply because it’s something you can reasonably and economically complete. I’ll be here for the show either way.

I'd go with option two, especially after considering the amount of work this truck still needs to be made reliable again. From what it sounds like, you'd end up completely rebuilding it by the time everything is said and done. Most trucks parked in the back 40 of a farm are left there for a reason.
@w900stu84 жыл бұрын
Wholeheartedly option 2! When you get into the rewiring you’ll be saying “Why did I do this?” I would build the Cummins that you already have so if you decide that the Detroit isn’t what you want then you can just drop it it. At the end of the day though, go back to your home page and reread your description. It says you are pursuing YOUR dreams and sharing it with us. Have fun!

As other people have said and as you know this truck blew up on your channel. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the "glow up" on this truck and I hardly know anything about mechanics and automotive but I think you have poured a lot of heart soul and obviously money and time into the truck so my opinion is don't let the excitement go of seeing this beauty back to the way it should be because some mistakes were made. Option 1, stick to it my friend! I will keep coming back to watch even if you decide to move on! :)

Stop playing around and go option 2. It makes way more sense to build a truck that is actually a good platform to build off of. As much as I’d like to see the white one finished i don’t wanna see you go broke either. If getting the AF one will be less expensive then do it. Also maybe put the Cummins in it later down the road or in the frieghtliner? Sometimes vehicles become parts vehicles because some are not worth saving. Take this as a learning experience and learn from it on the next one.
@shanemcalister16044 жыл бұрын
Bruce, firstly, I appreciate your honesty. I can fully respect that, when you know a project is doomed, you might as well move on. Here is my opinion and what I would do: Buy the other International, remove all the parts you have for the original international. I would also take the back half of your current international and replace the back half of the new international... IE from and axles/wheels (assuming your center sections are better than the one you are buying). Do all that, I feel like your staying true to your subscribers. Keep up the hard work, and keep learning from mistakes.

Option 2 - with all projects there are setbacks. It’s not so much about getting it right the first time but rather ending up with what you want it the end. I bought a project truck recently- she isn’t prefect far from it. But she is what I wanted - a 8v92ta day cab, she was already stretched (for a grain box) and she is something different a 83 White WCM. I found out the last week the motor has a spun bearing( badly spun). But I think I found a donor motor. Just part of the journey. Use what’s good on the truck on the new one. Nothing wrong with that. Plus like you said you were learning - this truck was practice.

I appreciate the honesty and finally coming clean on what's going on. If this truck requires soooooooo much work it's better to just cut the cord here and go with the air force truck because it's way less headache to restore (not to mention cash). I’ve had projects like this. You will never get your money back and all you will see is what you could have spent it on better. $20k is on the low end I would say. Cut your losses. It’s apart of the learning experience.

I got on your site for the International but I would go for option 2. You have learned what to actually look for when you do an inspection on it. You also know that you got over your head. There is a bad cab leak on the Air Force International. There was standing water on the dash. That is one of the small things you have to pay attention to on older equipment. 3rd generation truck owner operator. I have been around this my entire life. The 8V92 is a great old motor. The Cummins has more power potential. With the fact you will not be pulling heavy loads that does not matter as much. I vote to stick with what you started on. Option number 1.

Hi from the UK, Bruce. I'm one of the people who came to the channel because of the International, but common sense has to prevail. I would go for option 2, There is something about the Detroit 2 stroke engines. Nothing sound like them, I spent years sitting on top of one in Australia.
@Romans--bo7br4 жыл бұрын
Sam Faber.... what were you doing "sitting on top of one for years"?? lol ; ) I "love" Australia been there a couple of times, beautiful country, great people.. and I came within a few days of moving there, until my "wife to be" EMAILED me and just said she "changed her mind"... no explanation, no nothing.. and I had a heavy haul driving job all lined up for after I was to arrive there... in Qsld, probably should have gone anyway. : ) Whereabouts are you over there? What type of trucking were you involved with while you were "sitting on top" of a Detroit? Which Detroit was it, and what brand of truck?... COE or conventional (hood)? Over the years I had three trucks (as an owner/operator) with V12's (1- Extended hood 359 Pete & 2 - Ext. hood "A" model KW's)... absolutely "love" the V12. I do find it rather "curious" that the Australian Gov't / DOT allows "Road Trains"... yet forces you to pull them with those EU style really short wheel based COE's and equally short conventional KW's, Western Stars, Macks, etc with (basically) "coffins" for sleepers!... makes No sense to me whatsoever. I'm sure thankful that the US Gov't finally got their collective head out of their rectums and did away with the wheelbase laws for the power units ("tractors") years ago. I'm sure that the drivers over there would Love to be able to "Walk Into" a sleeper, with closets, refrigerator, table to eat on, and a decent size "bed" to sleep in... instead of pretty well having to sleep on your side because there's no room for much else. I'd bet that the European & US type (Volvo's, Scania's, KW's etc) COE's for the most part.. would quickly disappear from the AU. roads if they ever got rid of the short wheelbase power unit laws.. just like they did here, and there is no reason why they can't.
