its actually pathetic how people could dislike a video like this, someone has summed up the courage to explain this to us and this is the support they get? I dont know what goes through peoples mind to think this is a bad video (in order for them to dislike it), because fair play to Casey for being able to share that story with his viewers because it sure as hell ain't easy!

People in the comments saying "oh my nana or my uncle has diabetes so I understand what your going through " you really don't have a clue how we feel I've had diabetes since October 2014 and anyone else with diabetes such as Casey or anyone who has said they have it are the ones with diabetes here and the only ones who properly have a clue. People don't understand the 2 am blood tests, the injections in public that you don't want to do but have to or being out with friends and having to do your tests and injections. Stay strong Casey it can be difficult doing everything that we do especially in public and infront of people you don't know properly xxx

Yep, I understand. Tjose 2 a.m. checks. My home nurse after hospital stay said it was too much to check at 2 a.m. every night so just don't do it, and that was confusing! After the MD's mandated the testing, because of a fresh brand new dx, Or what about doctors who are afraid to test you because they think you're too old to have type 1 or misdiagnose diagnose you as type 2 because of age. And it might be a case of you still having a little bit of your own insulin left and you're still in the honeymoon stage and your c-peptide levels are still there. I commend you and stay strong and keep going on, God bless you!!!

I couldnt have said it better myself! I was diagnosed at 27 and when I was 32 my husband (who was also T1D) died from it. NO ONE understands unless you have it. Most type 2 dont even really understand it. I would give anything to be T2 and be able to reverse it! I started a pump a month ago and ive been so gad bc it makes its easier to track and manage. Diabetes kills 1 person every 8 seconds and takes more lives than breast cancer amd aids combined! T1D IS a terminal illness!!

Nicole My uncle had type 1 diabetes but he died because he didn't use his incline pen for a few days and he got ill and eventually had loads of operations which most of them went wrong so he went blind and he also went in a coma. He was only 44 and he couldn't look after himself and neither could his wife (my auntie) because she had 5 children (youngest were twins aged 5) so he had to go into a care home and within a few months he was going back and forth in and out of hospital loads and a few months later he went brain dead (if you don't know what that is it's where your dead but your not fully dead because some of your organs are still alive i think) and eventually he died with all his family around him 😥

I'm type one diabetic, I got diagnosed when I was 9. Two months after my auntie died in a diabetic coma. I remember being diagnosed like it was yesterday. Being told you couldn't have sweets and you'd have to do a needle everyday was scary. I've had it nine years now and I still struggle with it to the point my nurse has said if I don't crack down with it I may not see twenty. I have been in a diabetic coma when I was 13. It's scary and to a life threatening illness and it's sad to say a lot of people don't realise how life threatening this disease is. We're all here for you Casey & we will all learn & develop this illness together. Stay strong.x

I was diagnosed in 2000 when I was 9 years old. I had gone days with high blood sugar and my levels were so high not even my monitor could say what it was. I had diabetes ketoacidose with I had no clue what was at that time. I thought my whole life was over and I had to stay in hospital for 1 month before I could go back living "my normal" life again. The only thing that motivates me to live a healthy life today is soccer. Soccer has literally saved my life and watching this video really touched me because I can relate so much. Im happy to say I'm healthy today and Im really happy for you Casey, and how you figured out your life and took care of your mistakes. Love you loads

Hi Casey. I’m a recently diagnosed T1 diabetic and listening to your story really helped ☺️ It’s not nice to know people struggle with a lifelong condition like T1 diabetes and it was hard to hear how difficult things had been for you. I feel for you as I have been diagnosed as recent as seven months ago and I have not been looking after myself. To be honest, I probably do the same as you did and inject 1-2 times a day... but as you said, I will now not think my life is over and learn from your mistakes. I’m so glad for you and I hope you enjoy fatherhood! Your story inspired me as I also want to be a mother and to do so I firstly and absolutely have to look after myself as I would be carrying my baby and secondly, because I want to always put my baby first and to do that, I have to always put myself first! You’re a ⭐️

I have Type 1 Diabetes too and I really struggle with control and looking after myself too :( It's so difficult, even though people say you can live a 'normal life' but in reality its not that easy. I was diagnosed when I was 10 and have had Diabetes now for 9 years and I was a couple of hours away from dying when I was diagnosed. Scary thought. Thanks for talking about it - it's always comforting to know you aren't alone in the struggle but Stay strong - definitely need to start to control my diabetes better too for my future. The long term effects are so scary :( Thanks again for sharing xx

Everything your saying I can relate to! I really hope your diabeties is okay and your Hba1c has been ok through lockdown too! I find injecting into my tummy is better than your arm, as that’s also more discrete! It’s so hard but we got this!!! Thank you for sharing your story ! You really are an inspiration! Xx

Honestly, this is almost the exact same story as me. I got diagnosed in 2011 and I never thought that the reason was that I was ill. I tried my hardest to act normal and in the end my parents started to notice something was wrong. As soon as I got to the doctors office, they rang an ambulance for me to head to A+E. I was intensive care for 2 weeks and I don't even remember the first 4 days. It was so hard for me and had to go into therapy. I understand how you feel, I never told my friends for moths in fear they would neglect me. I'm glad you could share this with everyone #prayforcasey

My mom was a type 1 diabetic. It was getting so bad that she was fainting at the wheel and was passing out face down on the floor. There was one time where I was home alone with her and she passed out on her bed when I was about 4 years old and my dad was at a work outing. I was sitting there screaming for her and nothing was happening. My dad came home and helped her out. A little while ago when I was about 11 and we were talking about what had happened 7 years ago, she told me that she saw her life flash before her eyes and that she almost died. That was how bad it was. About 4 years ago she had a pancreas transplant meaning they replaced her pancreas with a new one. She has actually been cured from her diabetes at the moment. I am so very thankful for the person who decided to donate their organs and save my moms life...

Honestly this has made me think about how I need to take care of me and my diabetes. I've had it all my life ( 14 now) and always felt like I don't fit in but now it's just proves that we are unique and nothing can stop us. My doctors said that I'm slowly 'killing' myself as well as I didn't test enough, after that I've changed my life and I'm always making sure I've tested my blood and all of my friends are so supportive of me and always know if something's wrong. Thank you so much for making this video, it will prove that just because you have a disease it cant stop you from doing anything and perusing your dreams. I love you 💚💚💚💚

I was diagnosed in 2008 and I've had ketoacidosis three times in the past two years, I didn't look after myself at all and it is scary knowing we can lose control, I hated doing my injections in public so I just left it and often forgot to do them when I got home, luckily I have regained control and I'm on the right path to living a healthy life again, 9 years of diabetes and it took me 8 of them to realise I was different in a good way, and in a way we are blessed to be diabetics because like you said we have the choice to be the healthiest we can be :) I hope you keep on top and keep healthy Casey you have everything to live for, and thank you for making such a beautiful video.

I cried 😭😭 I love you casey! I have type one diabetes too💉 I have a suggestion for you! Get an omnipod, it is a little square machine that goes on your leg, back, arm or stomach. It gives you insulin when you need it (you have to put in to another machine what your bloods sugars are and then put how many carbohydrates are in what you eat and it gives you insulin. Also you have to change every 2-3 days.) I have one and it is great, a lot better than injecting in public!❤️ go to your hospital and they will tell you about it!❤️

I have type 1 diabetes I have had it for 3 years coming up and I have nearly died 3 times cause I have not been looking after it. I'm was in hospital in march cause of it. It is really hard being 14 with diabetes cause none of my friends have it but all my friends learned about diabetes when I got it just so the know what to do. No one really understands what it is like to inject 4 times a day and have a fear of needles. My gran died nearly 3 months ago and that is how I ended up in hospital cause I really was ill cause of losing her I stared doing everything really wrong but I have now released I have to start looking after my self for her.

Hey man, I got diagnosed with Type 1 at the end of last year and we both share very similar stories. I am also taking Novo Rapid 3 times a day and my Lantus in the evening. I'm 27 and I broke down, I thought it was the end of everything but it's so weird how quickly I have adapted too my life with Diabetes. It's still sh*t at times, I'm still getting used to whipping my pen out when I go out for dinner with friends but they have all been very supportive! I've been watching your videos for a good few months now so it's really cool too see that we have something in common! I have searched all over the internet for chat rooms for people with Diabetes to hear their stories but they are no where to be found, which is ashame as I think that would be a big help to others out there. Look after yourself bro!

Wow, this hit me so hard! I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 18 months old.. I recently turned 23. Most of my friends still to this day don't know I'm diabetic, I feel embarrassed to tell people and ashamed... but what we have to remember is it's not our fault, I was drinking milk when I got diagnosed. I get called fat all the time even though I'm 5'6 and I weigh less than 8 and a half stone, I workout 5-6 times a week. I think people who are diabetic shouldn't feel this bad about themselves and other people need to learn more about this illness. I found this video so inspiring and I want to thank you because you've really opened my eyes. You've made me feel stronger and more motivated to look after myself. I think you're doing amazing and we're all so proud of you. Thanks again for making this video, you're a great KZbinr! 🙌❤️❤️❤️

I have type one diabetes too. I've had it for two years but it's still hard. I remember when I stopped doing my injections all together and the nurses told me what you was saying at the start. You've made me realise that it's not the end of the world and that I've got so much ahead of me to look forward too. I know how you feel. Like I hate doing it in public and sometimes I won't do my lunch ones at school or when out with friends because I feel like a pain and I just want to fit in and not be judged. You have made me realise that I need to start doing them again before I get to what I was like before and that it's important for my health right now and in the future to do them. Thanks for posting this video it's really helped. And I'm going to try my hardest and get my blood sugars under control Lysm ❤️❤️❤️

Have you ever thought about getting Dexcom or freestyle libre then you don't have to test your blood in public and it's much more private you can just look at your bloods on your phone and no one would know what you are looking at. Also an insulin pump would also be much more private and help to give better control xxx

Morgan i have been on an insulin pump for roughly five years now and i definitely do see the benefits because it is a lot more controlled however i don't think it is necessarily more discrete because you still have to deal with having the pump on you (possibly sticking out through your clothes) and you have to deal with tubing and cannulas and stuff but idk i agree its better for more controlled diabetes

Kay Allison I am on an insulin pump too and it not like trying to inject your self in public so it's more private in that sense that's what I meant, and my pump you don't even need to get out your pump to give a bolus. Also it depends where you keep your pump on you, you can keep it in discrete places it's personal choice and whatever a person is comfortable with.

This is the most relatable youtube video ive watched.. My son is 13 and was diagnosed in 2013.. He was close to being in DKA and has had DKA once since diagnosis due to a vomitting bug.. I was told i was lucky to be bringing him home from hospital both times.. My son struggles to keep good control because of snacking between meals and trying to tell a teenager what to do is near impossible but a hyperglaemic teenager is 10times worse.. Good luck with keeping good control and finding doing it in public easier.. Thats one part my son doesnt worry about and he will just inject anywhere.. Love this video and i really hope it helps other type 1s out there X

Amazing that you have that motivation to sort your diabetes out. I am also type 1 diabetic like you I was lazy I thought I was invincible and abused my diabetes. Due to this I am now blind in one eye, nerve damage to my feet, stomach, bowel and venous system. I am also in renal failure and am on dialysis 3 times a week. Up until a couple weeks ago I was still working as a nurse (ironic I know I should have known better) but now I am signed off. I have been thinking about starting a youtube channel or maybe a blog to try and raise awareness of living with type 1 diabetes an sharing my story. Anywa my point is look after yourself as diabetes is a cruel disease that shows no mercy ad needs to be taken seriously.

This is a really honest and brave video to post and im really glad you did because people really dont understand how hard it is to live with diabetes. I was diagnosed with T1D on the 9th July 2010. I was 10 years old. It changed my life, I spent 3 days in hospital learning what my life was going to be like from that moment on. My dad is diabetic and I saw the disease almost kill him multiple times. I sobbed uncontrollably in the doctors surgery when I found out and it took me over an hour to do my first injection. Diabetes is such a huge burden both physically and mentally. I is every second of everyday. It affects everything you do. It is very easy to get overwhelmed especially after dealing with it for 6 years. There are no breaks. You feel like you're drowning in a never ending sea of struggles. Diabetic burn out is very common especially in teens/young adults. Im very glad you shared this Casey because we need more awareness and knowledge that we didn't 'Eat too much sugar' or 'not exercised enough'. There are good sides to diabetes, though they can be hard to see sometimes, I am so much healthier and the choices I make always take my health into account, Ive made wonderful relationships with other diabetics and found I could help other too. Im so happy that you have found something to motivate you and something to keep you going. The best advice I can give is talk to others with Type one. There are facebook groups, apps, instagrams communities, I have made so many friends and it helps so so so much having people who understand what you are going through. Keep your head up Casey, you have many people supporting you. This was a great video!💙💙💉💉

Adrianne Moore Type one diabetes isn’t a genetic disease, so you most likely won’t have it, and if you do, it won’t be because your mom has it. Also, does she have type two diabetes? Because alot of people get type two diabetes when they are pregnant. Btw I know this because my bff is a type one diabetic

Having suffered with type 1 diabetes for over 9 years now and for the good 5 years of those I would always act like a 'normal person' who wasn't a diabetic, as I always questioned 'why me?' Why did I have to suffer from not being able to eat whatever I wanted? And because of this I wouldnt look after myself, I would never check my sugars and occasionally not even do my insulin! But due to the consequences that doing this can lead too and watching your video has opened up a new perspective for me that there is no benefit in not doing my insulin and acting as if I don't have it, because I do and always will. so your video has opened my eyes to take control of my diabetes before it's too late! So I appreciate you sharing your story!

I'm very glad I found this video. I use never test my blood or take my insulin in school, even though I was on a pump because I always felt judged, even if it was as simple as going to the bathroom for five minutes out of the lunch hour to do it. I'm glad you're able to work on yourself and change for the better, it's very important, but you definitely aren't alone with the insecurities you feel, and you never will be. To this day I still feel insecure even after having T1D for almost 21 years. Everyday is a new chance to do better, and please please please keep in mind that you are NOT a number, or a statistic. You are a human who deals with struggles in their own way, and it makes you even more human that you are willing to change to better yourself. So very proud of you Casey.

My uncle had type 1 diabetes but he died because he didn't use his incline pen for a few days and he got ill and eventually had loads of operations which most of them went wrong so he went blind and he also went in a coma.

Casey this video has brought confidence to me. I am diabetic and I hate it. I do trampolining and it is an intense sport. When I was diagnosed I thought my life was going to be over because I was really ill. I was in hospital for 2 weeks getting to my self again. I've been diabetic for 7 years bow (in now 13) when I was younger I use to scream and shout at my mum because I didn't want to do my injections or test my blood sugars. But now I look back and think all the times my mum would say well it's for your own good and it will make you better, I appreciate it. Casey I am so glad you have made this video it has made me really think about how it could have been worse if I didn't listen. Trampolining is a big issue sometimes as I can have a low blood sugar and have to stop for a bit before I can jump again. But I fight through and do as many changes as I can to get my blood sugars right for it. Thanks again Casey and I'm proud of you x

I was diagnosed with T1D 3 months ago. I realize I *NEED* to take care of my self because my moms cousin was a T1D. Hedidn't take care of him self. He went blind, he couldn't move, and he died, suffering. I never met him because he didn't want to face the reality of being T1D. My mom was so devestated when I was diagnosed because of what happened to him. I'm a very responsible kid, so I know I need to take care of my self. I'm so grateful I was diagnosed in this time. We can get pumps, cgms, and so much more stuff to improve our lives. Now I know another story why I should take care of my self, so thank you.
