Emily, I left you a comment when this happened. I'm 53 and I've had 10 significant concussions in my life. The last one at 40 has changed my life. Since I take no meds, I know when I go through times of what I call "concussion brain waves" The anger the issues and noise irritation start showing up and when I tell my close people that something "makes my brain hurt" they get it. Cranial sacral therapy gives me relief and is why I will have a quality life. I will never be able to do the financial work I used to. I went back to working on a farm and the animals and plants are great for my brain. I know you'll get better! I know how hard it is. The last one took me 6 months to explain North, South, East and West even though my brain kept saying "You know this" As someone who grew up in the woods that was really scary. There are times I just have to tell people " I have a head injury so bare with me" Again, I pray you are made whole and either way it's going to get better. It's a bitter pill. God bless you!

Emily, I am 63 now, but had a severe concussion at 16 where I lost a days' memory. At that time I received no counselling for best ways to recover. Before my injury I had an easy time in school and received top marks. After, at the beginning of grade 10, I had to work much harder for my marks and had trouble remembering. I was very active, played soccer ( my first love at the time), and just "sucked-it-up". I was planning on going to university for a science degree, but ended up working for the railway, and raised 4 great kids with my wife of now 42 years. Long story short, you can have a wonderful life, albeit in a different direction from the one you envisioned. In your case though, with therapy and patience I think a full recovery is entirely possible. God bless you on your healing journey!

You’re in my prayers Emily 🙏🏻 I suffered a severe concussion in 2021 during the winter. I slipped on the ice going down the stairs and was found 35 minutes later when a nose. Me covered in snow and ice. All I can remember is that it was 7:55 am when I went out the door and down I went. I was rushed to the hospital emergency room and was wrapped in warm blankets. I struggle from time to time and still feel the fog. But since the accident I have lost 70 pounds and walk 3 miles a day. I have eliminated caffeine and sugar from my diet and am eating healthier than I have ever. You’re strong and you have family to support you. Be kind and patient to your self.

I just this week heard an interview of someone who had written an article about her journey with a concussion that she got playing soccer and how many doctors give the wrong advice for recovery. She said that it is important to keep your mind engaged and to exercise to keep the blood flowing. She had to go to a physical therapist who gave her mental and physical therapy before she was able to recover fully. She said that trying to keep your mind blank was the worst thing to do. I hope you get well soon.

Emily, you are doing fantastic. When you are used to the go go go, it is a shock to suddenly stop. Let your brain heal. This is not a sprint. Now is the time to nurture a good relationship with yourself. Other methods of healing are acupuncture, hyperberic oxygen tanks, and massage. As for mood, remind yourself each day how wonderful you are as a person. I'm rooting for you.

As a former college rugby player with several concussions, there was a time where i had to drop school for an entire year to recover before i could go back and finish my degree. Brain injuries are no joke, and they can have serious long term effects. Still, with time and serious effort, you can recover . It certainly isn’t easy to deal with all the negative thoughts and emotions, apathetic moods, poor decision making, slow processing and cloudy thoughts, but there is light at the end of the tunnel if you keep fighting through all of it. What really helped me start to change my brain chemistry and move in the right direction was to always remind myself of the blessings in my life and to be kind to myself when i wasn’t meeting my own expectations. You almost have to consciously “will” the positivity back into your brain despite the contradicting feelings. At the very least, believe that no matter what you will pull through. I wish you the best!

Can I make a suggestion for improving your videos. Lower the sound level by 3 or 4 dBs so that we can clearly hear what you are saying while the music is playing. As a sound engineer, this is a good practical idea. Very many programmes are ruined nowadays by a too high level of accompaning sound as viewers cannot make out what is being said. I hope you are keeping well and improving over time. My granddaughter has similar problems to yours. Best wishes!

Emily, love your videos I’ve followed your dads for about 6 years also While you sitting quietly, read Dale Earnhardt Jrs book: Racing to the finish. It chronicles his journey recovering from his 10-15 concussions. This book should be in every sports teams locker rooms. You’ll see that most old school therapy’s don’t work. If you fight thru these symptom, I believe you will be much much better off for it. God bless.

It does get better, it just takes time! I was in a accident when i was 14! I understand i spent 3 days in the hospital and have no memory of it! I actually lost my memory of the week after that as well! I remember walking up to the house with tunnel vision and after telling mom not to worry everything went black! The next thing i remember is mom calling me to get up for church! It was a week later! The stitches were healing nicely on my ear that was almost cut off! I've had several more concussions but not as bad as the first one!

Emily, I have every confidence that you will heal completely. If you ever doubt that even to the slightest degree, literally talk to that idea or picture and tell it to get out. Then take a wad of paper which represents that doubt/fear, and literally throw it in the garbage container and tell it that no longer does it have any power in your life and that you forbid it to ever occur again. This is something I studied a long time ago and it worked for me and for many others. Please try it.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you are being so proactive about your issues. I was just talking to a friend about learning how to "Be Still" . It's definitely easier to do out in nature. Certainly this isn't the life you planned, but you will find your way. The brain is such an amazing delicate yet resilient organ. I hope you are working with someone to process the emotional component of this trauma. This is a loss on so many levels. Being able to acknowledge and work through the mental health part will be critical in your healing journey. I'm glad you have a loving, supportive family to work through this with. Hang in there.

Dear Emily; I've had 2 major concussions in my life , in one I actually died (for a short time) I'm now turning 90 and there are many things that will help you on your way to recovery . Stay mentally active as well as physically active and most of all stay spiritually active and I don't mean that in a religious way . Always remember "you are not your body" , the being you are does not come from your brain or your body but from a place beyond your mere physical being. When you are involved in the world of nature you will see it and sense it and become one with it , and therein lies your true joy. What you truly are is perfection and any thought other than that is a lie!
