I've Broken My Welding Equipment!!

In this video I replace my oxygen and acetylene regulators. And I take the opportunity to upgrade to multi stage.

I do a lot of work on commercial projects so lots of stairs I recommend upgrading to an oxy weld style kit for weight saving I got the components to change from acetylene to map gas and swapped to the Adam’s gas 2L oxygen then got an aluminium carry case made the whole thing weighs 12kg cost wise think it was about £100 and no more bottle rental

stuart, dont know if boc still sell them but you can get quick release fittings for the gases, just unclip your bottles of the hoses then. that was back in the 90's though when i worked f or esab

hobbyweld make quick release couplings for gases. no more undoing nuts and loosing gas each time. buy extra and can swap between long or short hose setup. personally i like the other comment use small propane and rent free oxygen setup.

For us "civilians", it would be great to do a follow up video where you explain your set up : why 2 cylinders; why reverse threads; what does the regulator do; what does "2 stage" mean vs "1 stage"; where do you get the cylinders and what sizing options are there; do you need a licence to buy them; do you "rent" them ( eg just swap them at the supplier for a new one )or are they yours and they get refilled; someone in the comments mentioned "mapp" gas as an option : what other options are there and what are the pros and cons of them vs this set up; for what actions do you weld vs not welding. And maybe another demonstrating how to weld/ tips and what to avoid. You can tell I know nothing 😭 but very curious. All the best !

think you were having problems because you were using metric adjustable wrenches, try imperial ones 😜

Hi yes you can. I’ve never used it myself but I’ve seen other lead workers with that setup.

@@slbleadworks Thank you very much for your reply ! Working with lead is not a big thing here in Germany, In the UK you seem to do it more. Here they just use it for chimneys usually. Most video instructions come from there. Even the biggest lead sheet manufacturer here has a manual which shows a lot of good technique and it is actually a manual that they translated from UK.

My bottles are so fecking heavy carrying then up a ladder on the trolley, have you tried using the small oxyturbo bottles? I've not tried them myself but have been tempted to buy a set in the roof merchant to give it a go.

You’re supposed to change them quite regularly but I don’t think anyone does. Some come with dates of when they are supposed to be changed. I think personally it’s just a way to get more money from us. But I suppose an advantage would be less likely to have leaks. Also the advantage of upgrading is as you say Just a more consistent flame that doesn’t fluctuate. Thanks for watching.

@slbleadworks Yeah you're right I should buy some new ones, I spray them with soapy water now and then to check for any leaks and other than the flame fluctuating a bit they work fine. Quite an expense for not a lot in return. Thanks
