I swear every time I’ve thought about getting a specific pedal to grow my Frusciante style pedalboard he makes a video on that very pedal not long after. MXR Micro Amp, Boss DS2 and Chorus, and now the Line 6 DL4… next it’ll be the Line 6 FM4

I had one of the original DL4's. I had a lot of fun using it, but it had way too many options that, while entertaining, weren't really practical for what I tend to play. Also, it took up way too much room on my board. Ive gotten rid of a few other pedals (both the EHX Canyon and the Oceans 11) for the same reason. I still cave into my Shoegaze tendencies occasionally, but with less intricate gear and my friend now has his dream looper. Great video!

One of the coolest things about the DL4 was that you could program the behavior of an expression pedal while in looper mode. Basically, you'd set the pedal all the way heel and set the knobs where you want them and then again for toe and you'd get a line between those two values using the pedal. This was intended to add delay while using the looper, but it was the only way to manually control multiple settings live. Settings could go in either direction so moving the exp pedal from heel to toe could make repeats increase while making time decrease etc.

my favorite is prob the digidelay by digitech :) super simple for a digital but still has a lot of options and is pretty cheap with low noise on my board

To answer your question - DD-7. Simple to use, immensely powerful. And Space Echo, which is really a different beast isn't it? Both of those are on my board. But the models in my GX-100 are killer too. Great videos, you have a fun show.

Nice video! I had a very similar experience years ago with the line 6 echo park… couldn’t really understand it, too many options for a delay newbie. Gave up on delay for ages. Then thanks to TPS I bought an Ibanez analog delay… couple of years later I got a dd200 and now nearly always have some sort of delay running. My advice for someone getting into delay- get a three knob analog delay pedal as your gateway pedal

Hate that the tweek and tweez are always different. Sold mine for a hx stomp, it has everything the dl4 has plus more and is much easier to understand.

The Keeley Halo is my favorite delay because i don't understand how to dial in a delay sound. With The Halo i just put it on one of the presets and it's a great usable sound. I would love to dig more into how to actually use it but i just don't have the patience.

Turn knobs....get a sound. Don't like it?, you have 5 knobs to turn,keep turning. It's not like it's hand wiring or building a whole setup for a venue with ground loops and.polarity and ohms and such. Easy peezy

Humility + Humour + Technical Excellence = Highly Enjoyable vid and an extremely personable presenter. I would buy you a beer but we are on different continents. Still, its the thought that counts 🤣🤣🤣 PS I do have a pair of Oasis tickets for Wembley, but they are ring-fenced for me & my son. The Mancs are our musical connection, so it will be an emotional evening assuming the Gallaghers remain in love......I suppose £30M each does tug at the heart strings somewhat......

Have you tried the Walrus Audio ARP-87? The tap tempo feature makes it so easy to set the delay time, plus the lofi setting is to die for

I did the same thing with the DL4 my first one didn't work and I had to send it back and pay more for a working one and at that point I should have just paid a little more for the v2 and I'm still slacking on getting one

Yes, turning everything up to ten rarely works. Take the time to lean what you have, before being drawn in by the next hype 😊 My problem has always been loopers, and how to balance the takes.

The pedal is great, but in 2024 I'm just not into scrolling through banks and holding hack combinations in order to preset on basically just a "delay" multi effects pedal. The price is pretty good for what you get I just feel like it doesn't do simple well and it doesn't have a lot of straight forward delay sounds.

Reoccurring theme “I was soo intimidated by said guitar / pedal until 1. An outside source (random friend) validates said item is in fact note worthy / can’t sound bad AND/ OR 2. dude, plays said item and discovers it is indeed of quality (as if he didn’t already know before spending 1k-2k on it) then proceeds to explain himself.
