Samuel James Seymour was the last surviving person who had been in Ford's Theatre the night of the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865 and appeared on the I've got a secret TV show in 1956.

You can tell this man was suffering. He was way too old. It’s also crazy how this was the year he died.

He died 63 days later I think

To sit down and have an in-depth interview with this man would be incredibly fascinating.

God Bless James Seymour. "He fell down the stairs and gave himself a shiner, but he's still here and said he wouldn't miss it no matter what" It would be easy to say "Fuck this, I'm too sore" but this man said "I have an important story to tell, I need to tell the history"

I agree. Aside from being on a game show, what He had to say should be shown in classrooms for the kiddies to actually See somebody actually affiliated with Lincoln instead of only showing photos & telling history on him. This Guy actually brings Abe to life & makes it all that more interesting..

Agree. They gave away too much information to start. Love this piece of history.

It's a shame things aren't as humble. & quite simple nowadays as they were back then. Too much complicity

It still fascinates me that TV shows were sponsored by cigarette companies back then (Winston).

Amazing stuff; ranks right up there with the fact that as of 2024 a grandson of John Tyler (10th president 1841-1845) is still alive in his nineties in Virginia! You can’t make this stuff up!

Think about it, this was "only" 90 years after Lincoln was assassinated. For them the civil war was as many years ago as ww2 is to us now. It only seems so crazy to us because nowadays enough time has passed for it to be considered ancient history
