If they had to pull a bunch of body panels and engine components, pay close attention in the near future. Especially being a new vehicle. During a full engine takedown, it's not uncommon for someone to complete the project and end up with extra bolts and screw at the end. Missing fasteners, disconnected or missing sensors, bash plates, etc. are all pretty common. I've seen it plenty before, it's really hard to piece everything back to how it was when there are 1000 pieces and the vehicle is so new you don't actually have any previous experience. Infact, it's happened to me before.

When I got it back, it was making a weird noise under accelleration that the master tech agreed was not normal. They opened it up two more times and could not figure out the noise. I complained enough and the dealer actually ended up buying the truck back because it was getting so close to lemon law territory and they didn't want to deal with that (neither did I). Sucks having to go through, for sure.

Over the 54 years that I have been driving I have purchased quite a number of new cars. I have owned American, Japanese and Korean cars and have experienced much more poor service and bad customer service than I have received good to excellent service. The car business seems to be one that is concerned with greed over customer satisfaction. many of the employees from sales people to service people to management really don't care about excellent customer service. I had one Chevy diesel in the shop for over 60 days to get a new engine installed under warranty. This was in the 90s so parts should have been available. I have had multiple repairs on Ford transmissions when simply installing a new one would have been easier and probably cheaper. It seems that the transmission that Ford installed in the vehicle was not rated for the torque that this particular engine put out. I had a Toyota that blew an engine about 500 miles after the warranty expired and I had to pay for a new engine. If I ran my business the way these car manufacturers ran theirs, I would be embarrassed. These people are all about greed.

I’m in Washington, I did two ford buybacks in a row, 2020 Explorer ST (turbo waste gate) 2021 Explorer Platinum, (bent frame from factory) both repurchased in under six months. Once you send the manufacturer the buyback request, which you qualify for, they have 30 or so (depends on your state) days to reply, if they don’t, you submit the lemon law claim through you state AG. Trust me, Toyota will get back to you once you submit the claim. Your truck has been molested, you don’t have to live with it. The law is on your side.

Hit it on the head with communication. As a consumer, once we give our money to the dealer they have little to no incentive to care as much. I'm not a big fan of four door trucks. I owned a '01 Tundra, but my son had a slight roll-over accident and totaled it. Thank God he was OK, not a scratch on him actually. I have had zero problems with my truck so far. The twin turbo engine is unbelievably powerful and very smooth. I haven't noticed any turbo lag or surges--very smooth power band. I towed a 33' travel trailer (probably 9,000lbs) from Visalia CA to Morro Bay earlier this month (March.) Pulled it like a dream! Very impressed with the power from this engine. I'm at 943 miles at this point.

Thanks for taking time out to post your video on your experience through this challenge. It has definitely helped me in deciding on a future purchase. Anytime you take a smaller engine and put a boost on it to “ get that performance “ the longevity and dependability of that power plant is challenged as the auto industry is pushed by government regulatory with emissions. It’s going to be interesting to see how turbo engines endure as the mileage racks up. The Gov. has been barking for a long time about emissions and the auto industry had plenty of time ( year’s) for engineering and development but lounged around because that cost money. So let’s hurry on a design and figure out a way to make it as cheap as possible to save money. Good luck and your right, in person it’s a great looking truck with great features.

You’ve had the entire front end of your truck disassembled and then reassembled - hopefully correctly - but not by Toyota, but by a Toyota dealership which has far less quality controls than the factory. Having worked on an assembly line myself for a major auto manufacturer, I couldn't agree more. Every nut, bolt, and screw that goes on the frame needs to be at the proper torque, fully seated, and absolutely no cross-threading. 100% quality on every shot. The dealership doesn't abide by those standards nor do they have the equipment to ensure it. Unless they had someone standing by to measure the tightness on every shot, I'm not convinced it was put back together properly.

Glad you have your New 2022 Tundra back. I would be skittish keeping beyond warranty as you said they only changed one Turbo. Both Turbos were probably produced from same batch is why I feel both should have been changed. Hoping the other Turbo doesn’t act up or it’s another month or better.🤔😬 Just Me, but it must feel like a patch job.🤔. I would definitely inquire about Extended Warranty on this issue. Good Luck , I’m keeping my trouble free 2016 Tundra.👍

I'm a little surprised at all the little adjustments they made at the dealer. Toyota is typically known for their extensive testing so I'm a little hesitant. I was hoping to pick up the hybrid model when we get some up here in Canada now I'm not so sure. Beautiful truck though, I didn't like the look from pictures and I saw one in person a couple weeks ago and damn it's a sharp look. I hope this situation all gets sorted out for you. Cheers

Thanks a lot for the updates and final verdict. Glad you have your truck back. The only thing I know is that my opinion doesn't mean much, but, it seems to me the reliability with Toyota and the other automakers right now may be slipping because they are more focused on EVs. Now don't kill me but maybe 10 or 15 years from now no one will even be talking about turbos and V8s?

So sorry to hear of the challenges you have had. I bought a new Tundra last week- a 2021, on purpose! Wanted to get one before that model/body style/engine was no longer available. The design of the new engine concerned me. Time will tell if I was right in my choice, but I loved my 2012 and decided I wanted as many more years with this style as possible. Was not looking for a limited or pro, so it took a nation wide search to come up with a dozen 2021s, and only three were the Double Cab version I prefer on the farm for more hauling room in the bed. Hope things work out very well for you!

I hope you have no further issues and that Toyota does right by you. I have had over a dozen Toyota and Lexus vehicles and I love them. My 2018 1794 Tundra is my Tow Vehicle and is great except for the MPG and some of the antiquated features. I REALLY have been waiting for the new Sequoia and sincerely hope they work all the "bugs" out before they ship them. That said, I will still wait a year and hope that the world of vehicle shortages and paying a premium over list, settles down a bit. I am happy I have 3 vehicles that DON'T need to be replaced today! Good Luck and thanks for the videos and updates!

I agree, I think his local dealer let him down. The reason I believe that, is because of Toyota's overall track record. I knew guys that had rusted frames replaced where the cost was realistically cost as much as the truck.

Thanks for the update. Hope things will work out, bud! (not sure I understand why you wouldn't lemon it). Dude, you made no mistake. I appreciate these videos. Why would you give up a beast of a V8 Toyota engine for a turbo 6. I have a '05 Titan with the V8 Endurance engine, one of the BEST V8 engines ever made. I will never give it up. Purrs like a kitten. Interesting to see the significant issues with Toyota trucks. Wonder if you've driven a RAM and compared comfort and ride? I realize RAM doesn't have anywhere near the reputation of Tundra but my '18 Ecodiesel (they had a bunch of these fail and RAM isn't known for their reliability) has, so far, had no issues. Owned since new, 80,000 miles and only been in the shop for a 2 hour recall. Ride and comfort is outstanding and this is the mid-grade Big Horn crew cab. But...OUCH! The recent jump in diesel prices---good thing I get 28-30 mpg! Good luck with your truck!

I agree that Toyota really dropped the ball not getting you up and running a lot sooner. But I would like to know the real percentage of failures due to this problem. Like comments on here saying 10-15% I find that highly unlikely and guessing they are making these numbers up trying to make Toyota look bad. I did a little research and I’ve found anywhere from 1% to 1/10th of a percent. But I really don’t know what to believe. But I also found that Chevy has experienced 3-4% engine failures according to Consumer Reports I believe. And those are mostly V8’s I believe. So all these people bashing this new V6 seem to ignore that.

I have a 2022 Tundra 1794 that's just came in last week on the 16th. Purchased it and drove off. Been waiting a total of 7 months without a truck. Finally get the one I want and in 2 days of driving the new truck at 95 miles I get the 2 messages you got in the dash. Was able to drive it to my dealer and they told me by checking to codes its leading to the turbo issue. They will call Toyota on Tuesday to find out what the next course of action. Not happy at all. I said to myself. Why Me? I live in Californian. I believe this will hit most of the new owners at just different mileage. Hope not, but I think so. Luckily mine hit early and hopefully we can get it fixed quicker. We will see. It sucks big time.

@@triggerhappyreviews I hope and pray they do. I love the truck big time. It's awesome. I know things happen and there never is a perfect truck, but this issue is totally ridiculous. This should have been resolved already before I got mine. I hope your truck doesn't have any more problems, especially with the Turbo. If I was Toyota, I would have change out both turbos. Hate to have the other one go out and then be out another month or so. Hope they don't do that with mine. Since I know this now, I will demand they change out both. Because if I have to go through this again and the one they did not change goes out after I get it back or a year later and then they tell me the other one they did not change went out. I will be pissed, especially if I have to wait a month or so to get it fixed. Toyota will definitely have a lawsuit I guarantee.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with the public. If the supply chain mess wasn't going on I'd probably already have bought one. Now I'm hesitant and taking more time to research this turbo issue and whatever else may be going on with the Tundra. This would be my first Toyota, after a Honda and two Mazdas. The only reason I've pursued the Tundra is because of the expectation of superior quality compared to the Big 3. One thing is certain, no matter what I buy I'll be putting Mechanical Breakdown Insurance on it. Geico offers MBI for about $100 annual for 7 year/70,000 mile coverage. Suggest everyone look into that given the tremendous complexity of all vehicles these days. Geico requires that MBI be put on the vehicle within the first year and 15,000 miles on the odometer. Best wishes to you, I hope Toyota fixed the problem and that your Tundra makes it to a million miles for you or someone down the line.

They’re gonna do the exact same thing they did with my 2012 Camry. It had an issue with the torque converter Shuttern and slipping. They did a update to the ECU they were supposed to help. All I did is prolong the torque converter life. They then did an extended warranty because tor converters were going out. But mine went out after the extended warranty. It’s $1000 to replace the torque converter however the dealer and other people I spoke to said if your torque converter fails there’s shavings in the transmission. So you need a transmission rebuild while you’re at it. Which is around $5000 for all
