What is it really like taking a luxury cruise? Is it so much better than the budget and mainstream cruise lines? I've just disembarked my first Azamara cruise so let's chat!

We've been on the Journey, Quest, and Pursuit, each twice, and have a cruise scheduled for the Onward in January 2024. Have always enjoyed these cruises. While Azamara is about "Intensive Voyages", we like taking their TransOcean cruises because they tend to be less expensive per night and we like the sea days. BTW, who cares for your cat while you are traveling/cruising?

Was on that cruise it was wonderful. Well organized embarkation and debarkation, staff were stellar, main dining room food exceptional, entertainment so nice, and excursions were awesome.

re: ship naming. I get confused sometimes when multiple lines have a ship with the same name. Example: disney and carnival both have a ship called Magic.

Emma, we were on the Regal Princess across from you in Genoa, also diverted from Corsica. We took a free walking tour from Simona of GuruWalk (donation/gratuity is the norm).. Walking Genoa with commentary on it's rich culture and history was well worth it!!! When already in City centres, with no chance of being late for departure, we find that free walking tours have rocked. Just FYI

@@connie_360 Sign up for GuruWalk all free, Simona L has so much passion and insight into her city. She is also a member of the Genoa Cultural Society. Except for the Pesto on Focaccia part of her tour (a must), let her know that you want to walk and see, and the food part can wait for lunch :) That hits the highlights. Not a lot of public washrooms, one near the Bigo at the port, so we splurged a little over a Euro each on a chocolate cannoli at a restaurant/cafe for access, which seems to be the norm. Lovely City and once signed up, Simona WhatsApps you and you can ask her anything pre-tour...she knows her city!

I worked on this ship while it was the Pacific Princess. Prior to being a Princess ship it sailed for Renaissance Cruises, it was one of 8 identical ships they owned named R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, & R8 - not the most exciting names. Azamara Onward was R3.

Yes! Two free meals in specialty restaurants for Platinum NCL Latitudes status! One includes a bottle of wine. I sailed on the Prima last month and it was Cagney's, LeBistro or Onda (Italian) or their seafood restaurant (name escapes me right now - and it was NOT very good when we ate there).

It all depends on what you want from a cruising holiday. If you’re looking for bright lights, thousands of people, shopping malls and flashy entertainment together with water parks, kids racing tracks and a loud all night disco, there are a number of cruise lines you can choose from…. However, if you’re talking about pure luxury together with relaxed sophistication and high class entertainment, it has to be Seabourn Cruises. Now that’s luxury!!!! Enjoy!!!!!

Going back 5 years ago, you are CORRECT - That was positively NOT our Emma of today !! I think MSC is deliberately pricing low to gain market. Eventually, pricing will rise?? My only experience pre-pandemic with MSC was Loud and Crowded. (Geared more for a 20’s and 30’s crowd IMHO)

Yes, you can book last minute. Use an agent your first time and they can get you all setup for long term or last minute cruise. If you need to know something, your agent will help. DYI? there is scrambling, unless you live near a port. I booked one 3 days ago and fly 3-days from now have to organize flights for different ports, transport, hotels, etc. And because it is 12 nights, have to get a PCR test. Bon Voyage! Hope you love cruising!

Paul, I have heard DON’T DO a short cruise for the FIRST one because the frantic pace may give you the wrong idea of Cruises! If you have no choice because of personal/work schedule … then keep an open mind for future longer cruises !
