Been hiking in the Vivo Barefoot Primus Trail II for the last 2 years. Was a learning curve as we're my first pair of zero drop shoes. Absolutely love them and my feet are significantly stronger now. The soles of my feet do ache after 10 miles or so, and every stone says hello when you step on them

Barefoot boots - LOVE them. I use the Vivobarefoot ones and am now trying some from Freet. The Freet seem more robust. Have been wearing barefoot shoes for over ten years now, its done wonders for my feet and back. Some people think they get added protection from a more solid boot, but I find that I'm so much more sure-footed when I can feel the ground shape underneath me. Congratulations on the two years, and truly love your channels. Its like bringing a little bit of fresh air indoors.

34:31 when it comes to drinking from natural sources of water it seems like the risk/reward equation for unfiltered drinking water of this water of unknown safety seems pretty straightforward: save yourself a couple of ounces and a few minutes and you will run a risk moderate to serious gastrointestinal illness (whether the risk is 1 in 10 or 1 in 10,000 or 1 in 1,000,000) or take a few extra minutes to use a filter that weights an ounce or two and reduce your risk that is so close to 0 it might as well be a 100% chance that you will never get any waterborne illness.

Zero drops are not for everyone and as such need to be given time for your body to make some adjustments. Specifically, if you have never worn zero drop shoes, trail runners or boots, your achilles needs to stretch out in order to accommodate the new lack of elevation from the heel stack. Love your channel!

I like barefoot shoes for day hikes (Lems, Vivos etc) to help strengthen and condition my feet. But for multi-day hikes I always choose more cushioned zero-drops - Altras of various models (Superiors and Lone Peaks being my usual choices). I do like the Lone Peak all-weather shoes (with a waterproof lining) for cold, persistently wet weather though.

Hi Paul, had polycotton in a big family tent for years. its v heavy but never had condensation (will feel moist as it does soak up some moisture - which swells the fibres and makes it waterproof) Cooler in summer warmer in winter. quiet as well.. Not sure I would want to carry it too far! Congrats on the 2 years

Having said that, an ultralight mat and sleeping bag would probably add another 1kg. That would be 4.5kg for your shelter and sleep system (yes on the heavy side), but then it leaves you with about 3.5kg to play with to make it an 8kg load which isn't that bad for a few days trip.

I think you've got a World Exclusive on the Vern 1 PC! Great intro to this unique tent! It's more than double the weight of polyester equivalent, but you're getting all that 'natural pleasantness' of polycotton: not stuffy; flappy; noisey; less dangerous with a stove/candle; it's scent. When you concider a lightweight mini tipi (Luxe Hexpeake F6e, with Inner, plus Flu-Stove) you are actually lighter than that set up. If you add an oilcloth tarponcho as a porch/ Bushbuddy Stove shelter... maybe still lighter. Plus the benifit of not having ember holes all over it. I think this could compete with the Mini Tipi set-up in weight and experience. As a kind of 'quasi- Hot Tent' or 'Bakers Tent'. Anyway, it will be interesting how this gets on with long-term rain. That could get old quick. It may get even heavier when you have to keep packing it in the rain... Nortent are really on the ball with their tents. Look forward to the hard-use review.

This one's still hot off the press! I transitioned to barefoot shoes about 3 years ago. It was triggered by me having a large bunion on one foot which made shoes extremely uncomfortable. The only option was surgery, but they said they wouldn't entertain the idea until I was almost unable to walk, so after research I went for barefoot shoes. Within 6 months my toes had straightened out, and although my big toe is offset, the bunion is no longer a thing. I've got to the point now where I can no longer wear "normal" shoes because my feet have spread out, I've seen countless benefits and honestly you couldn't pay me enough to go back to wearing anything else now. Go easy on yourself, and learn about exercises and common issues when going to barefoot shoes, although with the ones you're already wearing you're already half way there. Thanks for taking us with you, that tent sure looked interesting. I do love you and your endless supply of gear 🤣

Hi Paul, regarding hiking boots. Another option for zero drop waterproof hiking boots which I wear are the Xero Shoes Men's Xcursion Fusion . I also have the Vivo Tracker II FG which are waterproof but tractions not great. My Vivo Tracker Forest ESC by far the best in the Peak District bogs for grip but not waterproof at all. I’d recommend the Xeros and I wear them the most. Hope this helps.

Poly-cotton tents were all the rage when I started backpacking in the 70s, especially for inners. Both my tents from the 70s and 80s have them. Much more breathable (and quieter) than nylon but much heavier too - although lighter than the canvas they replaced. That looked a nice tent and at 3kg+ about the same as my dome tent although the dome is roomier I suspect. Would have been nice to get some price details though.
@stephenhands2108
@stephenhands2108 11 ай бұрын
It will be interesting to see how you get on with this tent in the long term and under various weather conditions. Many of the older tents were canvas - we had a large family one which was great and never, ever leaked in the rain. With a small single skin canvas tent you could possibly get more extreme condensation issues in the future as, like Goretex, I daresay it will either be breathable or waterproof, but not both at the same time. As I understand it the fibres in canvas materials expand when wet which then naturally locks out water making the material highly waterproof. However as mentioned, similar to Goretex, when wet and waterproof the material may no longer breathe. The biggest issue with canvas tents was always the weight of the material. Watching with great interest.

On the off chance, before it gets too much further into the dark & wet months, is there any chance on an in-depth video about waterproofs (bottoms really)? I've a couple of pairs that've done 'ok' for hiking, but I'm ready to invest in something a bit more substantial..... and as you well know, it's like a minefield out there, so many choices, materials, terms, etc, etc. Would be great to have them explained, pro's & cons', that sort of thing. ATB

I may mention them in a video but won’t be making another dedicated video. I’ve done one before if you have a look through my older stuff.

October's are quite warm now.They use to have more in common with November but now they are more like September.Although this one has gone clear and cool which is good for stargazing.

Hi Paul, bought one of these tents, imported from Norway. Got hammered for duty etc but im well happy with the quality of it. Only pitched in garden so far and I'm really looking forward to getting some wild camps in it!!

I have been using Vivobarefoot walking boots for a while now and they are super comfie for short walks. I have not worn them for longer than a day walk yet and I think your feet need to get used to them. I have gone over to zero drop and boots/shoes like "lanx" leather ones since the insteps and tops of my feet started to hurt when wearing shoes like "fit flops". The only minor gripe I have is that the grip on the boots is not as good. They say it's because you can feel the ground more but I have slipped a bit in mud. Hope that helps 😊

Hey, I've been in barefoot shoes for 2 yes now. Helped my alignment and eased the pain in my body too. I have the Vivo Tracker Forest ESC and you have definitely picked a great boot. I enjoy the videos. Keep them coming. All the best. 👍

Great video again Paul, thank you for the content. Ive camped in the Gamme 6 PC for a week and it was incredible. Nortent really know their stuff, Ive visited their headquarters in Norway and they are a super friendly company. Would you try hot tent camping?

Opinel! I absolutely swear by mine, carbon steel, so easy to keep sharp. This and a victronox Swiss army keeps me fully covered. I was thinking about getting a lockable Swiss so I only have to carry one knife but my Opinel weighs next to nothing and it's so easy to sharpen and is such a lovely design. Cous cous and choritso is a really good alternative to £6+ camping meals. I've been experimenting a lot with different meals I can finish in my thermos food flask as well, for example making risotto with easy cook rice and dried mushrooms (can buy these cheap from Chineese supermarkets). I hope you're health check up goes well Paul, all the best. On my way to the dales now, watching camping videos on route, haha can't wait!
