​@@IngwiePhoenix the most expensive part of broadcasting is not the camera, but everything that comes after it. Especially in sports you have very specific needs and expectations. E.g. you want to be able to do an instant replay of a goal or a foul. So you need to broadcast, store and pick and choose from the same video stream simultanously. This is why they use different videoformats that are uncompressed(The single frames can be compressed, but there is no compression inbetween frames -> no inter-frames only intra-frames) -> Lots of data In addition to that the connection from the camera to the OB-Truck is often still a coaxial-cable connection, which is limited in its bandwith and/or length of the connection(many modern cameras use optical fibres, though), plus your OB-truck needs to be able to process the data etc. In conclusion: just changing the camera wouldn't work.

Having done a lot of audio video installations in schools. I would recommend a cage of some sort to protect the camera from hits. One to protect it from damage and two to protect it from shifting the position of the camera. We would also mount everything assuming someone would try to hang from it.

To be fair nvenc is limited to 2 sessions officially on Geforce (nVidia limits nvEnc on any Geforce in the Driver) where as Quadros like the P2000 and higher in theory can run unlimited nVenc sessions...

My stepdad actually did build a livestreaming security camera setup for his cat.. 16th floor apartment so security itself wasn't really a concern, but there's 4 cameras which he can access remotely via a phone app (or just website) to see what she's up to. Also records and stores the most several days of footage, while flagging the timeline and saving separate files to long term storage when it detects movement over the threshold. For the NVENC limit, i wonder why you'd not just use the driver unlocker that makes it so you can run unlimited NVENC streams on all unlock supported cards? There is of course a limit, but it's a hardware/performance one not artifically set in the drivers by Nvidia

Just a cat5 or cat6 from the modem to the streaming pc.

Not more powerful in every way. While you can game on Threadripper and Quadros (nothing prevents you from running a game), it won't be as good an experience as on gaming-focused hardware like an i5 or Ryzen 5 and Geforce (or Radeon). When it comes to encode and compute applications though, this system does indeed crush most gaming builds. It also wins when you only measure performance in TFLOPS. However, to make use of that muscle, you need specially optimized and parallelized workloads, like streaming, AI, simulations or video / CAD / 3D animation rendering and editing, but not gaming.

I have built live streaming systems like these for several venues - houses of worship, cemeteries, conference centers, etc. - and there are a number of reasons this system is problematic. First, the badminton center is going to need some really impressive broadband service to be able to simultaneously stream five (or six?) separate video feeds in HD, let alone 4K. Most places I work with need to upgrade their internet to get enough guaranteed upstream bandwidth for a single 1080p30 stream. Second, trying to do this all with a single computer heavily complicates things. As Linus found out, it means tons of expensive hardware like heavy-duty video capture cards and $4K GPUs. It also means running multiple instances of OBS. So this is a system that will require someone who really knows what they're doing to be onsite to run it (or to log into the PC remotely over VPN... and now we need even more bandwidth). A much better solution would be to stream each camera using its own machine. A barebones PC each with a quad core CPU and a CamLink (or similar) would have no problem streaming a single camera. Six of them would easily be cheaper than this $10k+ machine. Or even better: Use a dedicated streaming device that doesn't even need a PC, like the Cerevo LiveShell X. These guys can broadcast a single camera with no PC necessary. And they can be remotely managed via a web interface, or you can set them to go live with a single button press. They're $700 apiece, so six of them would come in way under the cost of Linus' mega PC. (And they're little, able to be mounted right alongside each camera. No need to find a closet for a giant PC case.)

Those GP100s are MASSIVELY overpriced though for some really weird reason. Looking on ebay, you can't get one for less than $4,000.
