What do you think of the different rotary modes, useful or gimmick? Here is a link to the Kickstarter: geni.us/laserpecker2

The rotary attachment is great for long pieces but you must first build a jig to stop it slipping on the rollers as it tips either end. I used mdf and 3dprinted rollers with bearings and it works great now.

Great Test. But the dot size can be affected by the direction of the wood structure (because if hard and soft area) you could rotate the test piece by a quarter turn and laser and measure again or just use other material then wood which is more even

I like the build quality and amazing attention to detail on the whole LP product range, except the L2 rollers, because gnarling is traditionally used to improving finger grip on rotary knobs, it doesn't really grip things only resting on it. It also tends to lose grip easily unlike rubberised or silicon rollers. They may look aesthetically pleasing, but in my book functionality and practicality ranks much higher.

I am thinking one could paint the gun surface and use this laser engraver to put your art work on the painted surface so you can trace with pneumatic engraver tool. And if you don't like the way your artwork looks you can just remove the paint and start over without scaring the metal surface. What are your thoughts on this??

How does it perform on hardwood materials just purchased one and the end result is very patchy on some reclaimed oak flooring
@makeorbreakshop3 жыл бұрын
Oak is pretty porous so the issue might be more with the wood vs the machine. You'll need something that is tight grain to get a good consistent result. With testing I usually wind up using MDF or cardboard to get the best image results.
@darrinjones93873 жыл бұрын
You will want to use a basswood. Or closed grain. Oak and mahogany are not laser friendly.

Have you seen a Maslow CNC before? They have a work area of 4'x8' and can be wall mounted, and now sell with an optional laser engraver. Been super curious if the laser engraver is worthwhile
@makeorbreakshop2 жыл бұрын
I haven't see the laser attachment specific to Maslow but with most CNC's they use something like Jtech as an add on. The higher wattage add ons get pretty pricey and a nearly the same price as a dedicated machine from Atomstack/xTool. They are great though at the lower wattages if you wanted to start playing around with laser engraving, especially if you are caring/cutting the piece as well on the CNC.

Something else what you recommend I want to do wood laser aluminum keychain. Is xTool D1 better?
@Formul8ed2 жыл бұрын
@@shaquiel888 for a first laser I'd probably go with an Ortur Laser Master 2 or Aufero 2. But please keep in mind none of the diode lasers are going to engrave most metals including aluminum. You can use products like Cermark or dry moly lube to put a black mark on them, or laser anneal them, but you won't be able to actually remove metal (actual depth engrave). For that you'll want a fiber laser and at least $5k+ USD for one of those.

if you change the way the unit engraves you could use just the small size

Nice device. How does the beam remain focused when scanned from the vertical? The focal distance will change from the center (vertical) to the outer limits of the scan, so is this corrected for inside the scan head?
@Formul8ed3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't do any sort of correction. As you get further from the center and the focus changes, it does fade. Engraving wood, slate tiles, or plastic hasn't been a problem at all, but when I do a 100x100mm porcelain tile using the Norton White Tile method, when it hits about 80 mm it starts to fade. For most things, you can just run an extra pass or two, but with NWT, extra passes actually lighten the image.

How many mm can cut deeply to metal bro ?
@Formul8ed3 жыл бұрын
You're not going to cut/engrave/etch metal with this, it is only a 5 watt output diode laser - to etch metal you're going to need a fiber laser. You can however permanently mark stainless steel or titanium, or mark it with a product like Cermark. I've successfully marked stainless steel with no problem using laser annealing, which makes a permanent black mark on the steel.
