The correct thing for the referee to do would be to actually follow through on the penalty that he initially signaled, until the next stoppage. Then, at that time, admit the error, waive off the penalty, and just resume with an even-strength face-off. Selfishly trying to “hide” his mistake essentially forced the ref to compound his initial error with several more cascading errors. Embarrassing.

Accountability is what i'm really looking for. That ref knew he raised his arm. If he's in denial, he can check the game footage. Man up & admit you made a mistake. The NHL should release a statement about it & sit down with this ref to discuss his error in order to prevent it from happening again. Because that really was horseshit - and i'm not even a Philly fan.

The NHL hates the Flyers. Did you ever see the hand pass goal that was allowed even when The Flyers tried to challenge and the refs literally said "you're not allowed to challenge that", then went and dropped the puck. Then in between periods the NHL released a statement saying that The Flyers did have the right to challenge but that there was a miscommunication between the refs and the coach. LOL. To make it worse, they allowed the goal to stand. It should've been taken down in between periods. If the rules say something and the refs decide to not honor the rules, the rule that any goal counts after puck is dropped shouldn't come into play. They should've made a one time exception and took that goal away. Luckily, The Flyers still won but it's the principle. The wouldn't allow a HAND PASS GOAL!!! LOL, to be challenged. NHL refs TOTALLY went to shit as soon as online betting companies became some of the main sponsors of the NHL. I wonder why that is? Just like I think it's a conflict of interest to have a company sponsor the NHL and also sponsor players.

What's to be done? They didn't penalize either team for their error. I have no idea if it's related or not, but if it is, Torts came out far ahead.

@luketrottier6677Сағат бұрын
Am I completely losing my mind? I am just watching this video, and I've admittedly stepped back from hockey over the past few years. But doesn't having a ref arm up for an opponent penalty (once they touch the puck), and you icing an extra skater, mean you are pulling your goalie for an extra skater, because if the other team touches the puck, the whistle blows for a penalty? So if your goalie is pulled and you put a 6th skater on the ice, it isn't a too many men on the ice penalty??? Even if some crazy weird garbage happens like throwing the hand up on DET, and then retracting it suddenly. And if they had their goalie on the ice and deployed a 6th player, isn't that too many men on the ice, regardless of a pending DET penalty, too? Like, if there is a pending penalty, you can't leave your goalie in the crease and ice 10 players because the first call was for DET. Either way, the initial issue and problem is calling a DET penalty and retracting it. I'm just really confused about this too many men situation.
@Garb31659 минут бұрын
Puling the goalie and throwing a 6th skater on: still 6 total, still legal. Throwing the 6th on without pulling the goalie would be a too many men penalty.
@kneubeck124 минут бұрын
What moron would say it was the Flyers mistake. The hand went up and the pulled the goalie. Then ref puts his hand back down and the goalie goes back out, then leaving too many men on the ice due to referees mistake. Also officials should have put time back on the ice to when the mistake was made with a face off at center ice. More brutal officiating from the nhl.
@rickseiden1Сағат бұрын
I don't understand what the ref having his hand up has to do with the Flyers having 6 men on the ice and still having a goalie in the net. Even if it was a delayed penalty, you have to pull the goalie before you get that sixth man on, and, from the looks of things, the Flyers didn't do that. Maybe I missed something? ELIF Also, when a Flyer gives up the puck in center ice and it results in a goal against, do you think his reaction is, "I've let my team down," or "I'm going to hear it from Torts for that one"?

I honestly think this is a weird call to have to make. In all honesty it is too many men even if they call a penalty as the goalie is still out, but if the goalie had gone to the bench Detroit would have scored. A bad move by the refs and a very soft call to make it up.

The goalie has to get off the ice before the 6th man can get on for a delayed penalty. How was Philly's goalie still on the ice if there was an extra attacker? It should have been a too many men penalty.

he came back on the ice after because if you're suddenly not getting a power play, you'd rather be shorthanded than have an empty net

@deltagolavista1Сағат бұрын
@@karlshuler1011 I don't think it confused anyone. I think Torts took advantage of the situation. The Refs even gave Philly enough time to get the extra attacker off the ice once everyone knew there wasn't a penalty and only when they were defending 6-5 did they call the extra man. That means all 6 players skated by the bench and had the opportunity to get off.

The refs were like "well, let's not call any of the stuff against The Wings". The NHL HATES The Flyers. The ONLY call they made for them was actually a terrible call made because they needed to fix their mistake. They were throwing Flyers in the box for stuff that was so weak. They just kept throwing them in the box until The Wings scored. Then put their whistles away for the rest of the game except to make the one terrible call against The Wings as a make up call. The linesmen weren't good either. Calling icings on plays that weren't icing. Like the time Tippet got the puck first... was at the hash marks first..... was in past the D... but.... Icing. For some reason. Wasn't just that either. Missed offsides that didn't amount to anything so it didn't matter but still. The refs played a big roll in the win for The Wings. That being said, The Flyers couldn't lock it down on D and they were giving up too many odd many rushes. It cost them. So it wasn't all the refs. I want to make that clear. But, they sure didn't help it be a fair game.

I think this a huge overreaction. Not on the uploader but on torts. Refs in football can pick flags up after discussing it with other refs. I'd actually like to see this in hockey.
@garrettpater65572 сағат бұрын
No, because pulling the goalie on a delayed penalty is a legitimate strategy. Why should the other team get to play with 6 guys when there wasn’t an actual penalty? Why should the team who pulled the goalie risk getting scored on because the official changed his mind? It’s one thing in football to revoke a flag after the play is dead, but it has no place in hockey.
@samuelpratt64226 минут бұрын
Ya, this is hockey not football. Football is a start and stop game where a penalty can be taken back. A penalty in a fluid game like hockey is much different. It I much more integrated into developing play and strategy.that’s why there is something called a delayed penalty.
@AlyxiSistahTweaky253 сағат бұрын
Torts got rewarded for crying like a baby over his own mistake. Philly had 6 skaters and a goalie on the ice at the same time. Nothing the ref does with his arm allows that. The arm was up for less time than it takes for the goalie to reach the bench, and the skater going off has to wait for the goalie to reach the bench. The Flyers got away with one there. As for toe-pick hooking call...that shit happens all the time. Kane got his stick blade into the hands of the puck carrier. That is a hook. It wasn't called because the player went down. Maybe a bit of a weak call, but by the rule book, a technically correct one.
@cjveeneman2 сағат бұрын
