I’ve heard other trailers called unique before, but they were just mostly variations of existing layouts. This IS unique. I’ve never see a layout like this, with the bunks where they are. I like it. I think it’s great for families with young kids, they can be right there with mom and dad (or parental units), while giving a nice large dinette. And I’m with you 100% on the Bluetooth speakers over the exterior mounted ones. And I also really like that style of stove. I hate the little cheapo ones you see in a lot of small trailers. Overall, I’d say Salem/Wildwood looks to have a winner on their hands. Kudos to them thinking outside the box and coming up with a unique yet useful floor plan.

Hi everybody. As always awesome coverage Josh, thanks. And as i had appreciated the 169 arrangement with that wonderful bed room closet that compensate for the lack of storage in the living area, I have to appreciate this new arrangement too. I guess I love the bed slide in a small camper whatever it brings along. My idea is that a sleeping bunk in the same bedroom can be a perfect set for small children that are afraid to sleep alone away from its parents.

I don't think not having centralized air would be a problem in that small of a trailer. We had a hybrid with 2 fold out beds and a 13,500 BTU AC and despite the canvas tent beds it was able to keep it pretty cold inside.

This looks really nice! I like the sliding bathroom door instead of swinging. For the griddle, I would make it an option, or make it attach on the outside rather than eat up cargo space. Would love to see a window in the door, and a window over the dinette. I really like the amount of counter space in the kitchen. A ladder would be nice too. I like the non-bunk version too, maybe they could do the sliding bathroom door there in the next years model. Coming in under 5000 lbs makes this or its non bunk sister top contenders for me.

Oh man this is really cool, I like the 161 too but thought that the back queen would be cool with a bunkhouse, so this is close! What would be PERFECTION is remove the slide and do the same couch/flipbunk combo opposite of each other. throw in a portable table, maybe a back door, you have an entire kids bedroom/rec room suite! Kids can play a board game in the back while mom and dad nap up front. Two full seating areas, sleeping for six, spacious kitchen and full bathroom, all in 22 feet?! TAKE MY MONEY

Ok, frankly, this doesn't blow my hair back. At all. BUT! I loudly applaud the effort to design something that isn't cookie cutter boring that 100 other models do pretty much the same! I will always applaud the unconventional and out of the box thinking that results in these sorts of units. It might not work for me or be my idea of ideal...but it will work for someone and that's very ok. Appreciate the effort from Salem/Wildwood and you! Thanks!

I like the layout of this one Uncle Josh. Pros : Max use of space, single black and grey tank discharge, enclosed belly, superb dinette section, interior decor, separate rear bedroom, spacious bath for small size, no front window, large refrigerator, under 5,000 lbs total. Cons : single axel, no a/c vent for bedroom, single bowl kitchen sink, no oven, single propane tank ( no cover either ). Despite my cons, I think this is a great type for families with limited towing capabilities and I find it superior to a Pop-up as a starter RV.

Cool, unique layout for sure. I can see it working for some folks with kids or without (big dogs on the bunk to give you more floor space). This layout is AWESOME!!!!!. Would be perfect with a portable ac (for those that need it) and laminated with azdel! Hopefully one of the other forest river brands picks up the floorplan like surveyor or Rockwood!!! The grille should be standard but the mounting method maybe optional? I'd rather connect it to the bumper or hitch maybe? Or just use it on the camp table.

Wow! Just wow! What an amazing change of pace from the traditional mini bunkhouse! Someone like Coachmen could step this up a notch and replicate this but with aluminum framing and azdel walls plus change out the slide mechanism to a rack and pinion. Adds a few pounds but would make a premium version of this floorplan.

Josh, you are the best! This is an interesting floor plan for sure. Very entry level, but a step up from a pop up. I would definitely reinforce the dinette wether it’s used for sleeping or just dining. Nix the outdoor grill all together. They need to fine tune the bedroom, and according to Lippert at the 2022 GNR, no you shouldn’t use the slide in the closed position. And I would never travel with a full tank of water in this trailer, it would take more than 50% of it’s available weight capacity. Having said that, it might be an ok starter for the weekend camping family.

You know Josh, this is a very nice layout. I think it's cozy and very functional. I really like the Bluetooth speaker system. I would love to see this style of speakers also on the outside of campers and lower to the ground instead of the permanently mounted speakers up high under the awning. You could really eliminate the wired speakers completely and just have the charging station possibly close to the outdoor TV mount . Dual purpose , Music and TV sound how about that LOL . You also can move your music around with you without having to turn up the volume and possibly disturb your camping neighbors

Nice camper for a family. Really like the split bath especially if traveling with s family. I don't care for the bunks being right in the bedroom. The lack of central a/c is a concern in Nebraska for me. The large dinette is a good lounging space. The compact kitchen is efficient.

I feel the cooker should be standard, IF I didnt want it I could just leave it home but I know I'd be using it to make breakfast every morning, 3 kids all wanting to eat bacon, French toast, hashbrowns the griddle would be a perfect fit for me for feeding 3 bottomless pits!

Wow, a real change of floor plan! The thing I like the best about this is the change to the sleeping arrangement. It saves a lot on the length, which I prefer, just by doubling up. And let's face it, is there any real privacy in a bunk model? So might as well save the space. I'm surprised RV's aren't more cpap friendly. At least have an option, like adding a shelf or at least have the hose hole in an upper cabinet. While not at all ideal, at least it's something. I LOVE that they put the burners front and back instead of side by side! It's amazing the amount of counter space you gain. As for the outdoor griddle, I would prefer it be optional. I like the stand, I'd just prefer a grill, if anything. I don't know about no a/c in the bedroom area. When you have 3-4 people in a small area, it's going to get warm. With no vent back there, I imagine you'd have to crank it, and that would make it mighty cold when you are getting your morning coffee. Since I like to sleep in a cold room, it could be a deal breaker.

How about a TV swing arm mounted on the wall there under the outlets. Then with the bunk up pull the TV out and push it back against the bunk? Thanks Nerd! Lol. Hey, I picked up my 2022 ORV in December. I'm still watching your channel cause I do appreciate your straight shooting style and your questions and considerations to maximize usability in multiple situations!

I've not personally seen anything like this where the bunks are in the same room as the primary sleeping area. I have however seen in diesel motorhome floor plans ( IE Fleetwood 44B ), where the bunkhouse is immediately behind a bedroom. Meaning, the bunkhouse takes up the entire rear wall and few feet of the motorhome, though in most cases the bunk would convert to a closet with a bar for hangers by lifting the top bunk . Both can be weird, as here you obviously have kids at your feet. In the motorhome, you could roll over and potentially be looking at them, and on a lot of the implementations I've seen in the motorhomes that put the queen on the slide , when the slide is closed ( or when there is no slide ), the kids/guests have to crawl over your bed to get out because they're stuck in the back of the coach otherwise. Would love to see Jayco do something like this by using the 154BH as a base that already has that dinette in the front, stretch it out a bit and add some Jayco twists to the plan.

I think think this is a real nice family travel trailer. The way they did the bunks makes the trailer feel much bigger than those bunk house models with the walled bunk area. With the dinette there is plenty of sleeping room for the kids to bring a friend or two along (provided the friends aren't too big). I think the A/C adequacy is going to be location dependent. In the South I think it will have some problems keeping the bedroom area cool with the bed/bunks off to the side of the air flow. Further north and/or with adequate shade it would probably be ok except on the worst of days. My biggest concern is that the layout is not conducive to lowering humidity in the back of the trailer with the cool air going towards the back and the warmer humid air colliding with it going to the front. Maybe a semi ducted system where a couple of ducts went to the bedroom but still dumped to the front of the trailer. We had a similar situation in our first trailer and while it wasn't perfect I resolved it by adding a fan that blew across (i.e. perpendicular to) the A/C air flow. This moved the cooler air around the corner and helped quite a bit. It might work here as well. I think leaving the griddle as standard is the way to go. Add a LP connection in the same area and you would have a pretty nice little outdoor kitchen by setting up the BBQ next to the griddle. It adds some uniqueness that you don't typical see in this trailer size. I understand cost is a factor but maybe Wildwood can do like Ember does and prep the trailer for one of those collapsible ladders and make the ladder an option. With that open slide you need a safe way to get on top of the trailer to sweep away debris. To me the biggest drawback is lack of windows on the camp side with that solid door. There needs to be a clear door window with or prepped for a shade. If the starting price point is the driving factor then at least make it an option since the door cutout is the same for either type. Again I think this is a very good family trailer. It has resolved some of the family camper problems in unique and innovative ways that I feel gives them an advantage over their competition. If they can do better on the few items I list I think they will have hit it out of the park.

Great job Josh your honesty is bar none. This is an excellent trailer floor plan, but so many corners were cut, that this fails. Your idea on the TV was excellent, BTW! Hate the AC set up, here is wild wood's crap, give us your money! Wildwood should give you the answer on travel bed mode. I bet dollar for dollar it will be NO! The slide looked all wavy like it was already delaminating. Table should have a base. Insulting on the fart fans. Thousands of dollar camper here is the cheap fan. Again excellent idea if Rockwood Built this I would buy it. Great job anyways Josh... NEXT!!!

Ok, I love this layout. Just sold out Freedom Express 287BHS that we loved but it was so massive it really limited what we could use it for. The desire for a small family friendly camper is high but the sub 20’ campers aren’t all terribly appealing. All travel trailers have compromises in one form or another, for a small camper like this this floor plan is great……. Except for what appears to be no pantry space. I wonder if some cabinetry above the dinette could double as pantry space for food, etc. add that and I could seriously could see us with one of these for our family of 5. Also, is there a way to run 2 20lb tanks on the front? Dual batteries? Man this is a tempting setup.

Nice starter camper for people with little kids but wouldn't put teenagers on those bunks. Also wouldn't put a TV on the bottom of the top one. Think it would be angled to much down at the floor. Thanks for addressing the using the slide or not when it's in "road mode" issue even if you sort of had to give a non-committal type answer. At least it may have people think about it before trying it. Have seen a couple videos where damage was done doing that. 👍👏

Josh, imagine this. Swap the queen out for double bunks, extend the whole RV 4ft, give it double axles and delete the front couch, turn that into a Murphy bed with a curtain. Boom! 216QBM. Sleeps six, without using a dinette, and its SUV towable.
