@@Overseer2579 you are absolutely correct! I know I couldn’t live with that mindset, it’d be exhausting. They say the person you marry is essentially your best friend, so I've never understood the whole, "I've literally only talked to you for a few minutes and I don't want to date you, but we could be friends?" thing. Wouldn't it be pretty healthy to get to know one another on a friendly basis first, then gradually let it develop into something romantic? I've had more than one situation where I initially didn't see romantic interest in someone, but as I got to know them more on a friend-to-friend basis, I started to develop feelings and vice versa. Sometimes you have to follow your gut instincts about someone, but I feel like a lot of people nowadays are VERY quick to write someone off without knowing a single thing about them.

Nah, dude. At least for me that is. I mean, I've only had three serious relationships. My first one started way back when I was 14 and we met at a gaming site - instant connection, no "let's be friends first, bla bla bla". That lasted 10 years. After that, I got immediately into another one, which lasted about 5 years, and now I'm two years into it with my wife and we're blessed with a baby girl ^^ Not saying this is for everyone, but you have to take chances and just go with it. Find the mistakes along the way and work through them. Yes, life is SUPER dynamic and all and people change, but the whole "studying" one another and not being sure is just such a collosal waste of time to me.
@MoeRenai

I feel the same. For me, I’ve only ever felt any level of attraction to someone after I’ve gotten to know them as a friend for awhile. Although, apparently some people really can experience immediate attraction when first meeting, so people are just built different. There’s actually a label that’s becoming more commonly used that refers to needing to have an emotional connection before experiencing attraction (demiromantic/demisexual). Not sure if it quite fits for you but I wanted to share it, as it’s been a really helpful term for me to use for myself and to describe how attraction works for me to others who aren’t built the same :)

I was on Bumble because my therapist recommended it to me (long story) and Bumble was the only dating app that didn’t have the “it’s for hook ups” vibe to it. of course, there were people who would use it as such, but it wasn’t everyone. Tinder is the “hook up” app. definitely take your time with people and don’t let people treat you poorly because of it. there are still people out there who don’t want to hook up first, see if we’re compatible later. my boyfriend was one of them on bumble and we didn’t even hold hands until after we became official, about a year after our first date. it’s hard dating nowadays. people suck!

As someone who is studying psychology, everytime I see this type of show or anything like this, it reminds me of why I've been concerned for people in the first place. Dating apps seemed to have contributed to this issue, you're no longer seeing people but pictures on a screen & a cognitive distortion of that person you made in your head. So when you meet up with them after you've made that cognitive distortion, and realised they dont fit into that (like ken mentioned, nobody is 100% compatible or perfect, it's why compromise is important) you don't even give them a chance. It's that and a majority of people on dating apps lie about themselves to feed into that distortion creating more trust issues & everyone closing off & building walls. Love happens offline & with time.

Definitely avoid the apps! I was just about to comment, trying to get out and date in todays society must be so damn hard. Especially if you’re 35 and up. Bless you though.. meeting people the old fashioned way is probably the best way to get a date now days and back in the day lol be safe out there and have some fun!

I'm 26 and was single, people kept asking me if I tried the dating apps. I didn't want to try them because I was too scared and didn't feel that I would be comfortable. Thankfully I got out of my shell a little and asked an old classmate out. I guess the old fashion way is the way for me too.

Honestly dating apps are for people who think other people are for window shopping online and also promotes narcissism. Stay far away! Find someone out in the world doing things you also do like old days!

Thank you two so much for giving your opinion on current climate of dating. You two are doing gods work by pointing out the absolute idiocy of the current thought process of young adults. I’m a 22yo m raised by older parents; and I cannot express how hopeless the dating environment currently has made me. My parents are divorced now but both roughly in their 60s and I watched them work, compromise, and problem solve to maintain their relationship and try their absolute best to raise my brother and I to be the best we could be. Now every single relationship, not even exclusive to dating but marriage is always 1 text, 1 call, Snapchat, or 1 DM away from being ruined because social media has given us the idea that perfection does actually exists somewhere and it’s just *not f*cking true.* If you find someone worth it you make the exceptions to your expectations and you find compromise. Absolutely no one in this world is your perfect image.

I know a girl who thinks she’s in the top 0.1% of “attractive people” in the Bay Area, but ngl, she is average at best… And now she’s getting in her late 20’s and complains online about how she’s still single and how come she can’t find a good guy. It’s great to have confidence, but that mindset is so gross, as it’s basically looking down on others. It’s amazing how delusional some of these people are.

I like this version, it seems like the dynamic of taking yourself out is making people fear rejection on a new level, it's not "reject this person before they reject me." and more, "oh snap, if they walk away what does that say about me?"

Ken you're so good at explaining what's bad with nowadays' dating. What u see in this dating show, sadly represents what's happenng outside *to my experience*. I'm dating-burn out at that point. I just dont wanna date anymore at that point, at least for a while. It do be really like that. Every girl I've met, just expects the perfect human millionaire with skyjet and abs. Im 13% bodyfat btw, with healthy income care for myself try to find my flaws and I always have something to fix. Like I get that people are not perfect, but many people usually dont. And thats what dating is nowadays because we ""MUST FIND THE PERFECT HUMAN BEING TO SPEND OUR LIFES WITH"" just to realize there's no such thing.

also with tinder you just need to make your expectations clear. when I started chatting with my boyfriend I told him that I didn’t want to hook up and I was tired of playing games and shocker(!) so was he lol we talked about whether we wanted kids or not and how we felt about marriage very early on so after that we could just get to know each other. now we’re just a normal boring couple and i’ve never been happier with someone lol

It's funny because everyone understands that there's no "perfect match" with friendship. We all live through conflicts, some fights and disagreement with our closest friends. Why would a romantic partner be different? It makes NO sense to have such high expectations and "requirements".
