After 1,500 hours of Mario Tennis Aces can say it certainly does have it's ups and downs and many charms to it as well. As a fan of the 64 game, this game really does bring the right amount of nostalgia hit combined with a decent amount of depth. Happy to play friendlies with anyone if interested!

Really good video! I more than agree. Mario Tennis Aces has become one of my favourite mario sports games of all time. The gameplay is just so addictive, i love competing in touranemts on the weekends. The storymode is also super great, especially the boss battles.

I appreciate this review, because it draws a distinction between how much enjoyment you will get out of it without multiplayer. I'm just not interested in competing online, so it's good to know the Single Player isn't going to be worth my 40$ (on sale right now for Mario Day)

Definitely not a dead game! Doubles Tournament is still active as well. My husband and I play Doubles a few nights a week. Always loved this series and this is a great game!

I've been playing Mario Tennis Aces since launch and I've played a lot more recently since Mario Golf Super Rush was announced. Back then, I played a lot vs the AI just to get into virtual tennis shape but nowadays I play mostly on the Online Tournament mode just for Standard. Aces' gameplay has always been appealing to me because the features provide the unique feeling of playing a tennis game like a typical fighting game (meter, racket health, unique character traits & super moves a.k.a. Special Shots). Nowadays, the online playerbase is small yet filled with competitive and dedicated players, though I get a lot of Online Tournament matches during the weekends. In my opinion, Aces provided the best Mario Tennis experience for me since the past titles I ever played were Mario Tennis (N64), Mario Tennis Open & Mario Tennis Ultra Smash.

In my opinion it’s like Fortnite. The people that still play it never stopped, and have gotten SO good that it’s useless to try to beat them when you want to just have a match and very discouraging

I love Mario Tennis Aces. It proper rubs me the wrong way when it gets lumped in with the other lazier Nintendo releases when this was such a high effort package that totally reinvented tennis gameplay and made something that really goes beyond just “sports game”. I wasn’t massively keen on the story mode but the huge fun of the actual matches infinitely makes up for that

It should be clarified that is ONLY really active for standard mode. Simple and Doubles are pretty dead. However, there are other avenues of connecting with people that you could consider such as joining the game's unofficial discord server.

I bought Aces during the first month of its release and haven’t put much more than 2 or maybe 3 hours into it ever since, but this video has me a little pumped. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl tomorrow and see if it sticks? Now, Jon and the NL guys: Please do one of these videos for *ARMS* . Now that’s an underrated Switch game that I adore... at least with friends. Still haven’t played it online! Lol.

Gameplay wise aces is definitely best in the series.But content wise I still wish it had as much content as power tennis.But If I had friends over and could pick any mario tennis in the series to play with them, my choice would be aces.

I hate the solo player mode on this game. I miss the days when you had to earn the characters. Now everything is automatically unlocked from the beginning. I’ve barely played this game in the entire time I’ve owned it

Honestly like Mairo Party, it's more fun when you play with friends. Aces is a party game the story mode and unlocking characters was never the focus to begin with.

I'm in America and people still play it here. me and my friends when we get together we even break it out. The three big ones that we play is Mario tennis smash Brothers the biggest one is smash Brothers and Mario kart. I am super excited for Mario golf. It's funny because what the other consoles lack is fun games like that. They all are basically first-person shooters at this point. and not that they're bad cuz I play a lot of those too but there's something special about the games that I mentioned. Now if I could just get a strikers game man my life would be complete.

For singleplayer in sports/fighthing/party games I just want one thing: feeling of progression and variety. You can go various ways about this. Have a bunch of characters and stages be unlockable, give us a lot of challenges with checkmarks, reward you with stamps or other unlockables for completing courses with certain characters, actually having different modes that change the gameplay... The thing with story modes is that they're all about progression and variety so of course people crave them, but if they are over in a few hours and only serve as a tutorial with no extra stages or "replay all stages but harder/new twist" challenges, they can be boring. Something more meaty like Smash Ultimate's WOL would be better. It's basically why MK8 felt barebones to me without the DLC. You could only play those 8 cups in 150cc because the game would erase your 50cc and 100cc scores, and the unlockable characters were all Koopalings or clones, and not tied to any specific feats either so there wasn't any point to getting a high score. You had the staff ghosts too, but it feels like there isn't any point to them if you don't get anything out of it. When MK8D was announced to have everything unlocked from the get go I just couldn't care to double dip, no matter if they finally put more characters and battle mode. Sounds dumb but if it was like MKWii that had a license you could fill, I'll totally try to get it all to gold and beat all the ghosts.

Its motion mode is the best! How it feels when you are driving the ball is almost the same as when you're playing table tennis. (I was on the school team for a long while and granted it's not TENNIS. But still..)

Yeah, see I played Mario Power Tennis for probably 200 odd hours and it was almost entirely spent on the mini-games and gimmick courts. That is what I want in a mario tennis game. This looks like a great tennis game, but only a tennis game, Mario's face is here, but the chaotic Mario kart/party level gameplay I want is absent. (The golf game however, looks like it's bringing it!)

I've played almost 100 hours of aces (a lot of multiplayer) but I haven't been able to find games much in the past l year. I might get lucky and get one match after 15 minutes of searching but most of the time my switch goes so sleep during the search. Such a shame as it's such a fun game, but there just isn't many people playing in OCE
