So, we share a similar problem. Now, repeat after me: I can stop anytime I want. If anyone believes me, I can fund my next acoustic purchase with the big bridges I will sell them. Maybe I shouldn't have typed those words out loud.

Try Collings, I picked one up at a store after playing the usual suspects Gibson J45, Dove, and J200. I also played whole host of Martins, Gretch, and Taylor guitars that day. I should clarify that that day I had the privilege of going into a guitar store and attempting to find the one. I’m and audio engineer in Minneapolis and have been producing and recording people for a while now, so my playing in mainly functional. I don’t need anything flashy. I need a tool that sounds good and gets the job done. I picked up a Collings CJ, it was a mockup from 2008 of a prewar era advanced jumbo. The moment I picked up that guitar it was over. It didn’t fight me, it sounded just as big as my D35 and just as articulate as my 814. But it played so much better. I haven’t picked up anything since…thanks for the video, it was super fun to watch you search around and play through some instruments!

you have described exactly the journey I was on and what I wanted an acoustic guitar to do when I found my....wait for it....gibson songwriter deluxe studio back in 2011. i have since put in tusq bridge pins and had it refretted with jumbo steel...sustain that Nigel Tufnel would be proud of! on another note I have played many Songwriters since 2011 and have not found another that comes close to my original. Thanks for the vid. Jeff

Colt I’ve always steered away from rosewood guitars in a dreadnought size because according to my luthier they typically aren’t as balanced as mahogany. I notice when I record a smaller guitar like a 00 or OM the rosewood is a perfect blend with the smaller size. With a dreadnought rosewood for specifically recording can often be overly boomy. Obviously mic placement plays a big part of that, but what are your thoughts on that. Both of my luthiers who I trust always have told me stay clear. Also, I have a client with multiple high end vintage martins worth small fortunes that were gorgeous in the room but some of the hardest guitars I’ve ever recorded. They are all rosewood back and sides dreds.
@ColtCapperrune
@ColtCapperrune 2 жыл бұрын
So Rosewood is certainly going to be boom compared to something like Maple, no doubt. But this is one of the best sounding guitars on tape I’ve ever recorded. For me personally when looking at acoustic guitars it’s always about the total package. The size, the bracing, the woods, and the overall construction method all work together to create a sound. I’ve played Guitars with all combinations that I’ve hated, and guitars with those same combinations of wood that I’ve loved. So for me it’s not as simple as this would sounds bad and this would sounds good. It’s the total package. Hope that helps!

Many months later, I kept coming back to a sexy Songwriter Deluxe that I ultimately threw down for. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this guitar! Like a fine wine, wouldn't trade my 2006 for nothin'! I love the Gibson songwriter. I had one a few years ago but regrettably sold it. The huge difference with the songwriter and the other models you played is that the songwriter has the standard scale length, which give the strings more pop. The other two had Gibson shorter scale length.

That makes sense. I closed my eyes listening and I could have swore it sounded just like my D28. Gorgeous guitar. Gibson definitely adds some extra styling to them over Martin. Martin gets ebony now on board and bridge on the 28. Seems like it could be a tough choice between the two for a lot of people.

I'm typically a Taylor guy... 816ce and koa mini-plus... but last week I was at a music store and saw a Gibson J-45. I'd not played one before, so I thought what the heck. The connection was instant-- its just a great fit! Awesome sound. Tight on the low end, which really caught my ear. And it lays well sonically to support a vocal. Two hours later, I reluctantly parted ways. Still thinking about that J-45. Now I'm looking at color options... Lord, help me. 😎🙏🎸👍

I relate to him completely. I was looking, and looking, and looking. I couldn't find the right guitar. A few years back I found one that I don't have anymore. It was a Taylor 614. BRILLIANT ! When I began looking again, the acoustic guitars were terrible. I thought a MARTIN would work, and bought it. BIG MISTAKE. I bought the NAME for $3,000. It sucked. I'm going to try and do some sort of trade so I can get one that plays and feels right. Wish me luck!!!

Nice! I wonder what the science is behind the first guitar sounding so different than the second one of the same wood, same brand, same year of construction, but just a slightly different body shape and bridge design. That and maybe a slightly different neck shape
@melaniefayemusic
@melaniefayemusic 5 ай бұрын
After doing some research, I've come to the conclusion that the first guitar sounds different because it has a 25.5" scale length instead of Gibson's typical 24.75" and sounds like it may have a lighter string gauge. There's probably more reasons, but that probably has a lot to do with it

I played one at the Gibson Garage last year in Nashville, and that thing was so ridiculously perfect. The one I played was actually a demo, too, and I was still blown away by the quality of the guitar both physically and audibly. People often forget about it or ignore it in the lineup because it’s somewhat of a baby compared to the other more iconic models, but the Songwriter is every bit as good. I’d argue that it’s even better than their iconic models. One of the best in Gibson’s entire acoustic collection.

At the end of the day it’s about the music. Especially in the Mix, the differences between the microphones are melting away a bit. If you just look at one leave of grass or if you looking at I a piece of lawn, you don’t see that that single leave of grass anymore. Music first❗️Hunting and chasing gear is an endless quest. Like a good singer sounds great on every microphone 50 bugs or 25K, no big difference.. but the KM184 might be a bit harsh compare to the KM84 or KM86. But as I said, at the end of the day, who cares.

I just bought the same guitar in Rosewood sunburst in August 2022. And now I am in financial trouble and need to sell it for a huge loss and for 2 months now I can't give it away. I posted it on eBay, Reverb, Facebook and Craigslist and no one is interested. Listed on Reverb and Facebook under Jaguar Guitars and eBay under Arraylist. 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Stop spreading false information Sweetwater. They only check higher end guitars. Intonation? BS. Semper Fi. Nice choice amigo. I see what you like pretty tickler. Looking into one first opportunity. Needing a Rosewood Dread for addiction purposes. H-28 SB or MD, Rosewood Deluxe, D-55? Prefer no electronics as this field has not peaked.

I don’t understand for the life of me why anybody likes a J-45. Yeah it’s a Gibson classic… but that’s all. The Hummingbird and songwriter though, sooo great. They both sounds so good, and are comfortable to play.

I'm exactly the same mate. I spent a long time finding the one. Just when I was giving up hope, I spotted a Gibson Southern Jumbo up in the heavens, a few cobwebs were on the headstock because nobody had touched it for over a year. I picked it up and the rest was history. The Songwriters are consistent and amazing, yours sounds 👌🏻. Enjoy!

Cool. You picked the same guitar that I have. I knew it when I picked my Songwriter up and played the Bm intro chord to Pinball Wizard, I had the same experience that you did. Congrats!!!

I had the good fortune of coming into some money once, and I went and shopped just like this. I literally tried everything and paid ZERO attention to price...I just wanted to zero in on a guitar to use LIVE, that played great and sounded great. I already knew that I wanted to use the Crate Telluride Acoustic Amp. SO I plugged in everything that I auditioned into that amp. I have a be honest guys... I tried everything I really wanted to like a Taylor or Martin, and they played great but the electronics were crap, or sounded crap comparatively. I wound up buying a high-end Takamine for around $1600 with case that had their Cool Tube Pre-Amp which I found added a nice saturation for lead and finger style work. Now having said all of that...for the STUDIO, my choice would NOT have been a Takamine although those are also generally more comfortable for me to play traditionally. I have to say that Breedlove mid sized guitars and Martin large guitars always sound best to me in the studio when I am able to use specific mics and techniques that are simply not available in a live setting. If I had to have an all-in-one guitar today, It would probable be a Breedlove paired with an LR Baggs Paracoustic Di plugged in direct for live and mic'd in the studio, maybe even with the DI captured as well.

Yes. The first one you've tried was much better than the others. 👍

i don’t play enough acoustic guitar at the moment to warrant buying an expensive one, but i’m sure I’ll be checking out the gibson’s when i do. all of them sounded great
