I would say the best thing i want it to be able to do is you give it a figma design and it generates the code in jetpack compose even if it has some issues because as of now it's so time consuming to create a good UI in jetpack compose

This is pretty cool and excited to see how it works. I will say this would be a very helpful assistant in Android. It will definitely lower my time of searching google about something and them combing through the articles and pages to find the helpful answer, this studio bot will be helpful on that.

I'm using chatgpt to understand RX legacy code, convert it to flow/livedata, convert xmls to compose, modifiy legacy code I don't understand, etc., works like a charm.

I see it more of an inspiration than anything else. For example, when AI art became a thing some people got upset about it. I saw it as an opportunity for the AI to create art, and for a human to take inspiration from it, redraw it and create something new and better. At its current state this AI will probably not write perfect code, but it can provide some and a good writer can take it and make it better

AI in code editor has great value to produce code sketch or a possibility of an approach from a vast selection of code libraries. I see myself using this while developing new functionalities which I'm not yet familiar with.

We can' fully rely on AI's as they are learning. This bot is a good plugin and give basic idea of implementation we can understand and modify according to our need..

I think this is using Bard internally. I have used MACHINET plugin for Studio previously and its autocomplete is really helpful.

I asked your question to generates the initials from Chat GPT (free version) and the code was wrong, i kept asking to modify and correct the code but it couldn't. So i asked the same question from Chat GPT 4 (Premium version) and the generated code was correct at first time. :)

My experience with a mulit-module, reactive MVVM, declarative Compose, Hilt, viewmodel, KoTest codebase it could not get any code correct ... The only way you can get it to read all your code is by putting your code on the web. It can not read code from inside Android Studio.

The new UI is available since Android Studio Giraffe, which is in Beta 2 phase at the moment. I use it on a daily basis, no issues so far. And yes it's awesome!

I think that code with NoteViewModel will not even compile ;). There's a field val notes: LiveData = noteDao.getAllNotes() but getAllNotes() returns List, not a LiveData ;)

I think so far Google's ability to create AI, at least for these types of things is highly inferior to ChatGPT. I would have thought Google would come out on top in AI, last year if I had to wager I would have chosen Google as the clear front runner in AI, but not anymore. I asked ChatGPT the Room Database question and not only did it do it correctly, it also completely used an MVVM architecture along with Repository pattern that I didn't even ask for.

Imagine that you have a company that also has an Android app frontend(besides iOS and Web). Would you trust a bot to fix a gradle issue or a reported bug from firebase just based on user reports? These things usually take hours or days for humans, a bot would just try to guess and maybe even create new bugs. To be able to make a bot that is smarter than a human, we need to be smarter than one. At this point in ai development we can make really powerful search tools that can generate boilerplate code and that is amazing, but I think that it stops there. I would only consider this bot/AI as an assistant and maybe in the worst case scenario for developers, such a good tool that some apps will need fewer developers, but still need developers in the first place.
