Heres a joke for you Jimmy! A guy was out going from bar to bar looking for the one with brass toilets in the restroom. He goes in another one walks up to the bar asks the bartender if they have brass toilets there, says I was out drinking the other night and whatever bar I was at had brass toilets in the restroom. Bartender yells across the room, says hey Mac I got the guy that shit in your tuba over here!

Hi Jimmy! I really like your videos, and to be frank, until a week or two ago, I had never heard of you probably because I was never really into jazz that much. What got my attention, though, was how you explain how you play by just knowing. I'm a pretty good guitarist but only self-taught, but what you've shown on this clip is exactly how I "feel" progressions, but musically I barely know what I'm doing. I'm very good at walking notes between chords and using a lot of altered or embellished chords but just by ear. How you describe say a 7th as opposed to a major 7th I'm still a little vague on. I really appreciate your time and your no bullshit method and it kind of surprises me that someone of your caliber thinks in the same way I do. I almost never use a capo, and just know progressions by feel, and I hardly really know any songs but i can play damn near anything. I just pointed out to someone just as you said, that there aren't really that many progressions, I just move them up and down the neck accordingly. I finally found someone who affirms my methods. I might send a few $ your way if I can figure out how. I'm just an old bastard that hasn't exactly fallen in love with this internet shit... but I guess that's what we have to work with nowadays. Thanks Jimmy..

Any major scale = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7, so a G major scale is G A B C D E F#. An Eb major scale = Eb F G Ab Bb C D. What makes both of these 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 is the order of whole steps (2 frets apart on the same string) and half steps (1 fret apart on the same string) between each number. The order is: whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step (this last one is from pitch 7 to pitch 1 (8) an octave higher). Major 7th = 1 3 5 7 of the scale. If Gmajor7, then it's G B D F# Dominant 7th (called a 7th chord) = 1 3 5 b7 of the scale. If G7, it's G B D F because a b7 is lowers the F# down to F Minor 7th = 1 b3 5 b7 of the scale. If Gminor7, it's G Bb D F So when he says Amin7, you take the A major scale (you can find the notes in a chart online) A B C# D E F# G# and the chord is 1 b3 5 b7 so A C E G Every competent jazz player thinks of jazz the way Bruno does; it's the new (or bad) jazz players that are deep in theory but can't hear common jazz chord progressions.

During my classical guitar training, I learned about key signatures - C has no sharps or flats, G has one sharp - F#, D has two sharps F# and C# etc. Is that what Jimmy is talking about, or is it more about harmonising the chord CMaj7, Dm7, Em7... etc.?
