WRONG THINKING about chords and scales

I learned a lot from Jimmy Bruno’s online lessons, made me understand music a whole lot better. I was able to learn the fretboard properly through Jimmy’s lessons, too, it unlocked a lot of musical and practical guitar playing doors for me. You need to listen carefully to what Jimmy says, and then work on applying it. This is a whole lot of wisdom he’s giving people here. And he cured me of thinking modally all the time. That wasn’t working for me. Thanks Jimmy!

Do u mind if I ask what your current practice routine is? Or how u apply Jimmy’s teachings. I really love his videos and think he is an excellent teacher. I’ve been practicing the fingerings in all 12 keys and then triads, major, minor, diminished in all 12 keys including in scale form and I plan on practicing 7th chords top 4, middle 4, bottom 4. Once I feel my foundation is sound I want to practice as many tunes by ear and in all 12 keys. I will do this with jazz standards and also rock songs that I enjoy as well. When I was young my ear got pretty good but as with all guitar players I got stuck because my theory was really lacking. Any insight u can give will be greatly appreciated, one more thing I know Jimmy said he learned a lot from practicing soloing on ii-V-I in all 12 keys. Do u use backing tracks like band in a box or by making your own backing tracks? I know that’s something I’ll need to work on

Just the use of pentatonics in a jazz context , and this (which has been dubbed the "Coltrane pentatonic"): root - 2nd - minor 3rd - 5th - major 6th

@@garywium it's only one of many pentatonic scales.. I don't see things like that.. you know more about it than i.. coltrane used that lick a lot.. it's in his soo on giant steps

@@garywium some theory guy coined that term... coltrane invented a new sound over ii- v example: Dm7 g7 became abma7 B7 Ema7 G7.. that's giant steps pattern.. there are a few more of these. chords to Countdown etc.....after a while this type of playing gets monotonous , at least to me.. but in the end it's all good.. alway good to experiment

I'll Remember April In the key of G it starts on Gmaj7 then goes to Gm7. How do you see that Gm7? The ii of F or the relative minor of Bb? The rest of the tune is just a bunch of ii-V-I except for the Dbdim which is a weird chord altogether. Love the channel. I'm willing to pay $10 bucks for a lesson like this. Be well. Cliff

Ok, got 5 keys starting on low G, then I got 7 keys starting on low Ab using the 5 fingerings. Will that pattern repeat on the low A with 5 keys? but the Bb key starting on A is going to be fingering 5 instead of starting on G where its fingering 4.
@brunoonlineschool7527
@brunoonlineschool7527 Жыл бұрын
you got it wrong.. the fingerings are named by what degree of the scale is the note.in Bb there is no fingerings from the 4th because that pattern is included in fingerings 3 10th fret.. The idea is sart on the lowest note under your hand. these are NOT scales or modes

@@brunoonlineschool7527 I thought the 12345 would be referring to 23567 so when I said the 4th it means the 6th degree.... Break through the code! I like just calling the degrees really. I came upon the 4th degree at key of D going up keys and I used fingering 5 on top of that. Anyhow, just wondering since I havent yet tried keeping going on the A how many keys can I use that to start. I think I will start over on G and back cycle from Bb to Eb and see how far G goes that way! I think it may end up being 7 keys per note, because thats the point where you end up on the other set of whole steps? seems like it should be 6 keys...

Whats fun just been doing is keep on the low G, play an Ab6 then a Gm7b5 then play the fingering from the 7th degree and keep going like that, Next would be an Eb6 to a Gm and play the fingering for the 3rd degree, Bb6 - 6th degree, still a Gm, F - second Gm again, C- 5th this time, a C6 to a G7 ETC I get to G I proceeded with a D7 to G6...blah blah fun though yep you cant go further after D using the G ... I guess there is 4 #s mark and repeat cycle of seven keys on the Ab - starting on 7th fingering again.... Hmmm its a diatonic progression 7362514 zoinks!
