The coup d’état was actually orchestrated by the Wagner group, which is a private mercenary group from Russia. Niger gained independence from France in 1960 but they maintained strong economic and military partnerships. I think it’s important to mention that this anti-French sentiment which resulted in the coup d’état was a part of the Russian propaganda campaign in French-speaking African countries. Its goal is not to help them fight against poverty but to exploit local mineral resources
