Salford is a massive place nearly 300k people
@Alex-cw3rz3 сағат бұрын
@@joegilbert3149 yeah and most of that population is closer to Old Trafford than to Salford's Stadium. They have more than a dozen football clubs in a 20 mile radius, 5 of which have been in the Premier League, and a lot of Rugby clubs as well. There is so much choice that you can have a population of 300,000 but divided by all of them you won't have that big a support.

Think it’s important to remember every fan cares and supports in their own way. John unfair to say “no one near me cares.” Just because they aren’t singing or shouting doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t care. You need a mix, you can’t have everyone screaming all game. Every fan will experience the game differently.

I've heard "if you don't go to the games you're not a real fan" several times in my life. It's such a weird opinion to have. I hate being around random people, especially when they are very close to me and i can barely move around. Just because i sit on my couch watching the game doesn't mean i don't care as much as you do.

I’m a Salford season ticket holder on the west stand (Standing Section behind the goal). The west stand is good limbs and all of the seats are very quiet and just full of happy clappers. It’s definitely growing but it’s hard for people to care when most ‘fans’ support Man United and City. Although I will say our away support is good even though the numbers are low. This was a good video but I wish you would’ve sat closer to the west stand to see how it is with the louder fans.

I go to Salford a few times a season, it’s super local to me. It’s a cheap ticket and they have live music at full time so a good day out. You can’t deny that the crowd is full of United fans though - you see more United shirts than Salford. Last time I went we made friends with about fifteen Japanese students and there were lots of Americans too. The location is a weird place because it’s in the middle of the Orthodox Jewish part of the city, so unique place for a stadium. Also Lupo’s is the absolute best! Glad you found it.

Salford Red Devils (the original Red Devils) rugby league club is nearer than Wigan. The residential area around the Peninsula Stadium has a large Jewish population. There obviously isn't much attraction for them in watching Salford City. Before Salford got bought by the seven ex-Utd players, Bury was the most popular club, just a 10-minute drive away.

I went 2023 and had a similar experience to you From the 2nd minute I was hearing score updates from the United game (and Arsenal weirdly). I didn’t see ‘bullying’ but there was a group having an open conversation that can best be described as ‘crass’ when they were in a family section and surrounded by kids- along with standard football abuse to refs (more acceptable but again - surrounded by kids), and to top it off absolute library. Accrington away fans put them to shame, only thing you could hear.

Regarding chants and other personal abuse, it's not something confined to just Salford City fans. I hear it from a lot of fans from multiple clubs that have come to play my team in League 1. We always talk about how football can bring the best out of people but it also brings out the worst. Honestly, I'd be heartbroken if I was subjected to some of those chants.
@jodiegreen83493 сағат бұрын
Completely agree with you. I've been to tons of games and you'll always get a portion of fans who sit the closest to the away fans just to hurl abuse. I don't understand it as you've paid a ticket to watch your team and half the time they aren't even looking at the pitch

Dirty old Town by the Pogues is about Manchester. I suppose that’s why they sing it?
@FlatDerrick2 сағат бұрын
It's not by the Pogues, they covered it. It's by Ewan MacColl, who was born and brought up in the city and wrote the song about Salford rather than Manchester. Yes, the MacColl is the same as Kirsty who sang on 'Fairytale of New York', he was her father.

Not nice to see that at the end. Before this, I'd have had nothing bad to say about Salford. We moved close by in Bury after my wife and I both got jobs around here and I wanted a local-ish team to start following. Bury FC hadn't got their ground back yet, so Salford made the most sense for a few reasons. I've been quite disillusioned with football since finding myself extremely, ethically uncomfortable supporting my boyhood club, Preston, for reasons I won't go into, and I've always found Salford to be quite friendly and welcoming, if a little on the atmosphere-less side. It's been maybe 6 months since I last went to a game though, and it seems like it's got worse since then!
