I Waited 800 Hours to Use Trucks in Satisfactory...Now I Know Why!

I have several truck routes I built both early on and later in places where drones were overkill and trains were unsuitable but conveyors weren't really an option. One is run over land. One climbs a series of 2 m ramps (they can't handle 4 m ramps for long distances) and one is entirely road based on a point to point highway. With roads the best thing is just to give them a nice wide road. For turning around if you build a reasonably sized cul-de-sac with your truck station it's no problem if you take the turn at slow speed. I've encountered bugs and weirdness sometimes but overall I find them super reliable and there's no signaling issues like you encounter with trains or the need for batteries (ugh) with drones.

though i do endorse batteries as a vehicle fuel source once you have a good production line. maybe not underrated but certainly more people would benefit from knowing how useful it is.

I just went on Twitch and fixed things up a lot like this. I ended up making a little loop out the back of the truck station instead of trying to back out. Plus I switched to tractors because I can't really change my roads, but they are a little too narrow for trucks. It all seems to be working a lot better now. I already have the coal there so that is the best source for me. I bet batteries last forever in trucks or tractors. I am making like 120 batteries per minute but I am probably going to use them all on drones

@@DrLootCrate Yeah the tractors make sense for that. When I saw the video and the size of the roads I remember thinking "oh no...." as it's not impossible as we saw but very rough. I'm glad you worked it out. I hope in the future you find your groove with vehicles. They're the last form of moving stuff I tried as well and I honestly kinda regret it. It takes some getting used to but they're another fun layer to the game for me.

@@zetsubouda I do really like the look of them driving them around on roads, so I might do it more often for Internal factory movement for fun

I have a couple of comments for you... First, I was laughing a bit with your experience with the trucks... They really are rather buggy. A piece of advice for you if you actually do enjoy seeing the activity of vehicles is to favor the tractors over the trucks, they are much more maneuverable, and smaller + faster too! Also, just due to the size of trucks, you probably would do better making your roads 3 foundations wide to accommodate their turning radius. But all-in-all, yeah, they're just sorta buggy AF. I revisited using them in my U7 new world in the dune desert, figuring that I could use them as a poor man's main bus to pull in a town-style build to a central storage, and it kinda worked for a while, but I'm now dumping the trucks in favor of megabus's and drones. Really, they've done some incredibly weird things in my game, (like my fuel supply truck teleporting to (0, 0) for 10 minutes at a time). Still have one tractor running to bus my starter iron plants goods in, but I'm probably going to rip that route out soon. Keep posting what you're doing, love seeing it!

Thanks! I actually just went on Twitch and did what you suggested. Switched over to tractors, plus made a loop out of the back of the fire station instead of backing out. It all works a lot smoother now. I definitely wasn't going to change those roads, so this was the best solution. I didn't need the throughput of trucks anyway, so an easy call. I definitely should have checked the size of trucks before I started the build...I just assumed that they would fit on 1 foundation for a road for some reason.

The trucks are a little derpy but most of those issues were just using too big a truck for too small a space. Makes for a funny video

Yep. Realized that very quickly…I switched them over to tractors per viewer suggestion and they work great. I had literally never put a truck down in the world before this video, so I was a little surprised when I put it down AFTER I had built all of the stations. Definitely bigger than I thought

cool u took copy paste housing to a next level :>).... for the z fighting on the street fluxo just did a video of tipps on how to fix them with pillars and road barriers to lift the other foundation a tiny bit to dont get the z fighting.

Thanks dude. That z fighting is actually walls sticking through that I have running the power on the level underneath. I am probably going to go through and take them out. But I will definitely check out that video…I don’t know exactly how to do that

Trucks IMO work better like train where they have a looping path or at least a turn around in the path. Also might try the sugarcubes rather than the big one unless you need the larger hauling capacity. You can modify the pauses as well.

Yeah, definitely found that out. I left the back of that truck station building clear just in case I wanted to add the loop. I think I might. I honestly did not check whether a truck should drive on one foundation wide or not. I just assumed. I am probably going to switch back to tractors. Can I load the same route that I already recorded on new tractors? I assume so

Trucks are hevely going backward, if u want to 180 turn u need to build circle route, also when far away from trucks they just teleporting from point to point and can`t get stuck

For sure. I left room to go back and do a circle route if I needed to, and I think I do! The teleporting is a nice feature. I knew I was going to get good advice in the comments

Your roads are scaled for tractors, not trucks.

@@DrLootCrate Tractors can carry loads just like trucks. They have a smaller inventory, but your routes are short.

@@Pest789 yep. My routes are short and I am not actually carrying that much. I am going to switch for sure
