My grandfather was murdered when he was 35 years old. My grandmother was left with 1.5-year-old twin boys and a 6-year-old daughter. My Aunt told me that my grandmother walked all day to get through the pain. When I had a horrible breakup years ago, all I did was walk, and it was transformative.

I started walking last October I was 280lbs (I'm 52, and 5 feet tall) ,I've lost 75lbs and just last week did a 20 mile hike/ rock climbing adventure with my husband. I walk 5 miles on weekdays and hike 10+ miles on weekends . There was a time when I couldn't walk a flight of stairs without being winded, I had a " mild" heart attack in my late 30's ,I was a smoker. It's never to late to get healthier for yourself ❤

I'm 67, I started walking four years ago for just 15 minutes a day, it was all I could manage at the time. Now I walk for up to an hour and a half a day, I've lost 70 pounds and 36 inches, I would never have thought I could like what I see when I look in the mirror but I do. Having thinking time away from the usual distractions is something we forget about when we don't have it. I don't love it every day but I'm always glad when I've done a walk. Doing something for yourself that makes you feel good when you're going through a divorce is really empowering. Congratulations Mandy on completing the challenge and for keeping going when life got tough.

@clare9637 Жыл бұрын
@@lonestargirl76 Ironically what set me on the path to doing more exercise was that I have Ulcerative Colitis so my body doesn't digest a wide variety of what I would have considered to be healthy foods. I eat as healthily as I can but in my case that rules out most fruit and vegetables as well as whole grains. What I learned is that you do the best you can with what you have available to you because there's no point in getting upset about what you can't change.

Days later, I went to the walking track and walked for an hour every single day and it was SO hard, but it was like it was the only thing I could control when my life had been blown to smithereens, I would walk and cry and walk and cry and it was all I could do to hang on to everything while I tried to keep my stuff together when I still had an eleven year old son at home. You were courageous in facing your challenge and I look back and know that it took courage for me to that, too.

So true how something simple that you can control, like a daily walk, can help you cope with the most tragic events that life throws at you. I lost my wife to cancer, my best friend to a heart attack and my mother to old age all in short order and taking myself off into the local woodlands and just walking away from everything and everybody gave me the space to start gluing myself back together again.

Mandy, in September of 22, after having two heart ablations my cardiologist said I needed to loose wait and exercise. I started walking on my treadmill 3 days a week. At first it was for only 20 minutes and gradually worked my self up to walking 100 minutes every other day. Plus any other things during the week. I started at 220 and I have lose 50 pounds. I have gone done in size from plus size shirts to size some medium and large size shirts. I’m 71, retired and it works for me where it might not work for others. Also my husband was diagnosed with alzheimer’s and the walking is helping with the stress of everything I now have to do. Please keep walking it helps your frame of mind and your body. I hope everyone will do the same thing your doing. We as women need to look out for ourselves for a change. Keep up the good work. It shows the progress your making in the video. I'm so sorry you're going through a divorce. I know they're so very difficult. No matter the reasons for a marriage ending, there is still an end to life as you've known it for a while. We grieve the end, no matter how/why it came about. Our identities become wrapped up in who we are as a couple, and then suddenly we are no longer a couple. Our identity begins to change, because now we have to rediscover who we are on our own. I've also been through a divorce, and they're so difficult. I wish you the best, as you rediscover who you are, and learn to love yourself again! I'm new here, and it sounds like you're a teacher! I'm also a teacher. I decided to sub, as you seem like a kindred spirit! Looking forward to catching up on your videos!

Don’t pay any attention to how you look, just walk and keep walking. If you focus on weight loss and it’s super slow to come off you’ll get frustrated and quit. My body sheds weight so so soooo slowly so I’m just gonna let it do what it does and keep walking a minimum of 10k steps a day. My clothes are fitting better but I’m trying not to notice so I don’t get fixated on it because then I’m in trouble.

Awesome! I can see that your face is thinner, too! We have a lot on common. I went through a bad divorce, I’m a retired teacher, live dogs, and I am very inactive now. My social life is eating out with friends. I sew, quilt, machine embroider. ALL SITTING. (Well, I admit I had to get injections in my hip due to quilting…HA!!!!). I am AFRAID of walking alone outside, even though I’m in a nice area. I’m going to do Indoor Walking with Walking With Rick. Thanks for your sharing, motivation and bravery. I’m going to follow you!

You go girl! I had let myself go due to stress and other issues and was far too heavy for my height and bone structure - also bad for my overall health. I decided I just had to do something for myself and so, slowly, over the past five years, I've lost an average of 10 pounds a year. I went from a size 16 to a size 10 and got back what I call "my girlish figure." I LOVE IT! I started my serious but slow and steady weight loss with more thoughtful food intake and increased exercise in 2018. I started out at 195 pounds and am now fluctuating between 145 to 150. I would like to get to 140 pounds stabilized. It wasn't easy, but I feel so much better not only about how I look but how I feel physically and health wise. Slow and steady does win the race. I have heart issues and my cardiologist has been amazed by my "transformation." I had my 72nd birthday a few weeks ago, so it's never too late. Where there is a will, it's true - there is a way! We women need to take better care of ourselves and give ourselves OUR TIME. Our culture for too long has brainwashed us into thinking that to take care of ourselves instead of others and putting them first and our own needs last is somehow being selfish. BALONEY!

I am seriously impressed with your efforts, especially given your challenges along the way! I started a fitness regime a couple of months ago (I'm 77), 3 weekly visits to the gym + some swimming, and my general energy has improved but no effect on my weight. You have inspired me to go for walks on the days that I don't go to the gym - here's hoping it all comes together - finally!

FYI it will normally take 3 months to develop a habit, so hang in there. Stress causes cortisol increase but walking decreases it. After a decade of walking I’ve lost 70 lbs without really dieting. It may not be a fast lost, but a slow one which means by your measurements you’re replacing fat with firm muscle. ❤

Dear Mandy, I know God brought your video to my attention today for a reason! You have inspired me to start my own 30 day walking challenge. I used to take long walks in my neighborhood every day with my my little rescue dog King after my husband passed at the end of 2019…it was part of helping me through my grief. However, a few things changed, and I stopped walking, and I’m seriously out of shape. I’m 69 years old, and I know I need to get back to my walking, and you have been the one to inspire me. ☺️ I am very proud of you, and I will try to follow your example and get back to taking better care of myself. ❤ Thank you, and God bless you! See you in your next video! Meline

I never cease to be amazed at the videos that show up just when I need them. I walked earlier this summer and was up to 3 miles and feeling great. Like you, even on the days I didn't want to do it, I still put on my shoes and went walking. Without fail I felt immensely better afterwards. A foot injury followed by major abdominal surgery sidelined the walking. I am now patiently awaiting the green light from the surgeon to be able to start the walking in earnest and not just a 5-10 minute stroll. You are an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for your vulnerability and taking us on this journey with you. ❤ My personal opinion is it's HIS LOSS! STAY STRONG!!!

Mandy, you are such an inspiration to me. I literally have been sedentary like you for at least as long. I have felt aches and pains in my joints and in my hips and knees etc. I am so glad I found your video. I am so so sorry about your divorce. You are so strong to have continued to walk and not use it as an excuse to give up. Good for you! A few years ago I was walking like you and then just stopped. I felt so much better than I do now. I am going to buy a calendar today and just start walking! Thank you so much for this video. I look forward to watching more of your videos as this was my first one. I hope that you will continue to walk and do more walking blogs. I know I would be interested in a walking blog from you. Thank you for inspiring me in more ways than one. I downloaded an app called Pacer and it helps keep track of my walks on a map. It is really neat! It also shows how many steps I take. I am also going to be wearing my smart watch as it pairs well with the app! Wish me luck! I just put on my shoes and I am headed out the door for my walk....thank you again for inspiring me to move!

Mandy - what an awesome woman you are! You’re right about using the excuse of your divorce to stop but you didn’t! When I got to the bit where you’re sitting on the sofa, I could see the difference in your face. I walk a dog, rescued during Covid, and have lost weight since doing that. You have no choice as the dog needs exercise and I’m grateful that I have that excuse to walk. You are such an inspiration. Greetings from the UK.

Congratulations on losing that healthy 3 lbs!! I hope this will inspire you & that's why I'm sharing it. When I left Altercare, after 2.5 years of Stroke rehab, I was 260 lbs in Dec 2015. Today I'm 185 lbs. I was ashamed that it seemed like I couldn't get the weight off, but my doctor told me that losing 2-4 lbs a month is the healthy way to lose weight. You're more likely to lose it & keep it off that way. He said "Be the tortoise, not the hare & you'll keep the weight off." Yes its been 7 years & 75 lbs later that avgs out to only 10 5 lbs a year, but in my own way I'm staying active and doing it. My A1C reading also shows it cos I started out at 9.6 in 2016 and now 6.4 (as of April). So being healthy just doesn't mean weight loss, but many other things too: blood sugar, mood, etc. If I can do it with my limitations in my wheelchair I KNOW you can too. Keep up the awesome work, you got this!! 🎉
