I am 24 years old and currently over 18 stone. Last year my mental health hit rock bottom.. Last week I decided to ditch the antidepressants and get out walking on my own for 40-50 mins a day. Already I am feeling so much better and cried for the first time in years just at how much happier I am feeling (And possibly the side effects of not being on meds). I hope somebody reads this and makes the same decision I did- You can do it. Joe.

I'm going to walk in place and then march in place and I'm believing there will be a vast improvement. I weigh almost 300lbs around 280-290lbs. I want to lose 1-2 lbs a week. I'll see how it goes.

I go wallking every night for 40 minutes. My girlfriend of 4 years broke up with me yesterday and my heart is broken but I still pushed through my 40 minute walk tonight. I cried most of the way at first but I felt better after the walk. I hope walking helps the pain of my broken heart go away. Update: So it's been nearly a year since this post and I found out a few months ago I wasn't just broken up with. I was being cheated on for about 4 months. I thought she was it and was gonna marry this woman but I dodged a bullet, I guess. She would have cheated on me eventually. I am still walking every day and I am seeing a therapist because she really did a number on my self esteem. Thank you all for all your supportive comments and encouragement. I am 60 pounds down and I don't think I would have had the strength to carry on with this weight loss if she hadn't shattered my heart because I only started walking to help me cope with the sadness of the breakup. I suppose everything happens for a reason.

I have diagnosed PTSD from being in a war while in the military. For 10 years I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. About two years ago I weighed 445 pounds. One day, something clicked in me and I realized I had enough. I went outside and went for a walk. I didn't do 30 minutes because I physically couldn't. But each day I went out and gradually increased how much I walked. Now, two years later, I have lost over 200 pounds and I am walking 2 hours every morning. I've changed my diet and I have a social life with friends and family. Walking not only changed my life, but it saved my life in ways no medication ever could. My advice to anyone who wants it: Start small and don't give up. Just walk around the block. Build yourself up to that first mile. And, before you know it, you will be doing 7, 8....15 miles every day. Just don't give up.

Because of my depression its so important to me to force myself to get out and walk..its a way of encouraging Me and to help prevent deep depression we could really lose our mind and hope and never return from that. So yes walking is very important for a healthy mind bodt and soul. May God grant us the will to be great Stewarts over all He's blessed us with. lucy girl Hi. I think i can answer. It is good to walk about 5 km a day. I did it regularily from university to home. 5 days a week. But it is also possible to do it less often but longer distances. I did tours approx 2 times a month for at least 35 km. Ant ot still worked greatly on health. The effects are multiplied if you discover new beautiful places. Such tour has strength of any any anti depreßing medicine used. At least from positive symptpms. Funny thing is that you would get better even if your situation is not better. So happines need not to have rational basis other than walking.

We walk for 30 minutes a day and it's great to read these comments. I feel great and this is all affirmation to what I've been feeling the last 50 years which includes the 3 years I spent in the Philippines, where I met and married my present day walking companion.

Walking daily has changed my life. I walk 3 miles every day around a park daily for the past year (rain or shine). It’s was the catalyst to working out with weights and even running/jogging and healthy eating. coming from someone who has sit behind a computer the last 20 years. I have has lost 30lbs over the past year and am currently full of muscle and almost a six pack. Thank you walking!

You have no idea how many times I’ve shared this video over the last five years! So many people try to discourage me from walking on the treadmill, …Especially trainers at the gym!!! I share this video with every single person who asks me “How did you lose 100 ponds?” “How do you stay fit?” “What do you do for mental health?”(“me time” on the treadmill!) 🥰

Just came across this video . I was 35 years at a desk job ,70 lbs overweight when I retired . Started walking the first of December . As of the first of April I am 32 pounds down and feel better both mentally and physically . An added bonus for me was I only had to eat 5 antacid tablets since I started walking , I usually ate at least 3-4 a day !

I started taking betaine hcl ( for GERD/ esophagus pain due to LOW stomach acid/ not HIGH) The Big Pharma wants you to SICK down those antacids and keep making them stay in the 1%. I corrected my GERD problem ( no longer taking HCL), take pre/ prebiotics, lost 50lbs/ sleep like a baby and just love life

Walking is definitely a mood booster and helps in so many different ways, especially with depression. It only takes about a 15 to 20 minute walk to get the full benefits from it. It definitely is the best natural medicine ever. All of these are true.

I am 84 years old with many health conditions. I started walking daily only 4 days ago for @ ten minutes, with a cane, at a rather slow pace. I can already feel the benefit of this mild activity. I have started using my walker at home far less during the day and seem to have more energy. And it's only been FOUR days! I plan to slowly increase the time and distance but plan to walk daily as possible. What better easier gift could I give myself!
