A lot of us arabs who went and grew up in the west slowly lost our native tongue and culture. I can say for myself since I came to the U.S. at the age of 5, I can only speak arabic at an intermediate level but allhumdallah I can still read the quran despite not understanding the words. Sadly I can't write it at all but I have been trying this year to learn it all over again... if I cared more my younger years to actually learn I may have not lost it.
