A unique opportunity to walk across the track bed of the Royal Albert Bridge from Saltash Railway Station on Sunday, 12th July 2015 in celebration of the completion of a 6 year major refurbishment costing £20M. This iconic structure built in 1859 by the genius that was Mr Isambard Kingdom Brunel, still carries the only main line rail link into Cornwall. to the assistance of Network Rail and other organisations, the Ashtorre Brunel Bridge committee and the Saltash Rail Users’ Group are delighted to provide a unique opportunity to walk across the track bed of the Royal Albert Bridge (one way from Saltash Railway Station and return via the Tamar Road Bridge walkway) on Sunday, 12th July 2015. Not the best of weather with driving rain, blustery at times.

When Brunel proposed the design of this bridge they must have thought him mad. I bet they laughed as it was built and then stopped when it worked perfectly.

I.K. Brunel built Britain, and Britain built the modern world... so Brunel built the world. Of all the Britons I would have loved to meet Isambard Kingdom Brunel is right at the top.

It’s such a weird yet cool design for a bridge. It looks like a pair of eyes...

Amber Films 🎥 Thank you, filming could have been better if not for the weather. I believe that there are years when bridge is closed to rail traffic and a charity walk across takes place. Their are groups that cover events for Saltash.

Thanks Rob,not the best of weather, Network rail were good enough to let this go ahead. They could have cancelled it due to weather. How was that Holyhead recording on the SD card?

The camera guy couldn't wait to get across the bridge ... he must have vertigo problems... terrible filming ... way too jerky ...

Sorry you did not enjoy the filming of this unique event but I think you have missed the point in this footage. I had a size limit on my up-loads for file size so rather than give small sections of the walk I sped up the footage to give the 2 hours of footage in 10 minutes so it will show exaggerated movement especially in high winds as it was on the day. GoPRO gimbals were not available then or I would have had one as I do now (although not waterproof). The new GoPro do now have stabilisation built in to their cameras and are water proof.

@@52foxbat oh I understand now ... what a pity about your restrictions with the camera .. it was still worth watching... I never knew they let you walk across that narrow bridge ...
