Make sure you know what you want to do. The last thing you want is to get stuck with a role you find boring. If you do get stuck, just hope you have a short IMPS( initial minimum period of service). May I also suggest looking at other ADF branches before you enlist. Just in case. And good luck with your future endeavours. Fair winds.

Warning - check out the pros and cons of the military superannuation, remember you will be retiring as a civilian and you probably wont do your entire working life in ADF.

The money you save because of defense housing, put aside into a house (or a good savings-investment plan) you will own after being in the ADF. Too many people become reliant on the forces for all their daily needs but blow their pay. And when they leave have little security.

Don't join if you want a thrill or deployments, that's as dry as a nun. If I could say anything about my experience in army, it would be that it's boring and painfully unsatisfying. Unless you are a simp and are easily excited. If you want to be a serious soldier, the French or Russian foreign legions are the place to be.

For those complaining about the standards being different for men and women, both genders have different physical capabilities. Men are scientifically stronger and that’s why they have harder standards. The standards for women are challenging for them as their bodies are built differently and it works differently. I have no idea why there is such a problem with this as these women are still serving our country and most of these comments that are degrading these women for being “weak” probably haven’t served or done anything remotely related to the military.
