The video for I Want To Break Free was not related to Freddie's sexuality , The song was actually written by John Deacon , the bass player , and it was Roger Taylor , the drummer's girlfriend who had the idea to dress the band members in drag It was actually a parody of the longest running British soap opera Coronation Street

Back in the early 70's when Queen first went there. They were greeted at the airport, very akin to how the Beatles were greeted in America 10 years previous

Queen bass player John Deacon wrote this from the male perspective of the women's liberation movement. This song became an anthem for the ANC in South Africa in the late '80s when Nelson Mandela was still in jail and the white government's apartheid policies were still in place. Although the music video is often believed to be Freddie’s idea, in an interview with Q magazine in March 2011, when Brian was asked whether each band member’s character in the video was an accurate reflection of their personalities, he answered: "Of Course! Everybody thinks that was Freddie’s idea because it looks like something that he would love to do but it actually came from Roger’s girlfriend at the time, strangely enough. It was her idea to pastiche the Coronation Street women." Freddie wanted to shave his mustache but the others thought it would be funnier if he was in drag with the mustache. The Hoover bit was all Freddie's idea.

There is a funny story about one of the band's transport trucks that was carrying costumes and about 100 pairs of false breasts and bras from one show to another. He got stopped for an inspection and when asked what was in all the boxes among the stuff he was transporting, he told them false breasts and bras. Of course they made him completely unload his truck for the inspection, which meant he had to reload it all after. He was nearly late with the costumes for the performance. You do realise that this was written by John and Freddie didn't write everything, they all wrote the songs you'll know, and certainly nothing to do with Fred, it was Roger then girlfriend who came up with the idea of drag, and the song was actually about oppression during the 20th century as John saw it

Please do Queen, Death On Two Legs, 1974 Live at the Rainbow. Just a heads up about the movie, it was great for the music, but the "story" has little to do with reality, and was just a Hollywood type of distortion for entertainment, and did not do justice to Freddie or the other members of queen, any more than I want to break free had anything to do with Freddie's life. That was a parody of Coronation Street dealing with the Women's liberation movement, written by the base player John Deacon, and the idea for drag was Roger's girlfriend. They all thought it would be fun. Of course John was smiling, he got a ton of royalties for writing it
