I would recommend to anybody who had the resources and desire to hook up more than 4 subs to get their sound system professionally calibrated. You just may find out once your system is calibrated correctly you might not need or even want more subs. I had mine calibrated and yeah it wasn't cheap ($800) for mine. But ,wow! Is what a serious game changer for me! I had always been discouraged with my system until I had it calibrated. Other systems ,even cheaper ones seem to always sound better than mine. I was seriously frustrated! It's just one of those things you will keep putting off but once you do it your so happy you did! Anyways that's my 2 cents worth of advice....

Another simplistic option if you have a LOT of subs is to turn off the crossover in your processor and run everything full range. Connect a sub to each channel (assuming your sub has a built in crossover) and your done. There are other options for subwoofer integration concepts/ technology your viewers may not have considered. Vandersteen subwoofers work in a completely different way than most. They blend perfectly to ANY system because of how they are connected, and calibrated. Youthman, if you are interested I have a Vandersteen theater setup if you want to make another stop up to Wisconsin/Madison area. Its a mix of Audio Research, Emotiva, Meridian, NAD, Peachtree Audio, Furman, and Auidoquest. All the theaters that you have sampled are in homes where the owner is in charge. I believe a good portion of your viewers rent instead of own. This system can demonstrate what you can do if you don't own the property. IF interested contact your buddy Rad. He knows who I am. You wont be disappointed :)

For years I tried running two mismatched subwoofers in my room with just using the two pre-outs on my AVR, and every time it was a negative result, so I always want back to just 1 sub... but now that I have the mini DSP 2x4 HD and a calibrated microphone, I was able to use the second sub to fix a null and flatten out the response in less than an hour! And this was using two mismatch subs, so I can't wait to have matching subs in the room, and take it to the next level!

I have used a lot of y-adapters in my day to connect multiple subs and never noticed a problem. The speakers B system and daisy chaining are other possibilities. The most I have hooked up in one room has been four subwoofers and one amplifier driving some tactile transducers (necessitated by a concrete floor). Still had no problem. If someone wants more subwoofers than this, I would recommend beefier subs rather than more. Run a test tone with a sound level meter, and you will probably find that you are already overdoing it. Too much low bass can degrade lifelikeness.
@mfkhometheater77422 жыл бұрын
The 2x4HD is the perfect recommendation. It should easily drive two subwoofer inputs per channel so with just one you could for example have four pairs of subwoofers along the sides of the room with each of the 2x4HD's channels driving a pair. Great job Youthman!

@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what I did in my setup. The reality is XLR isn’t going to innately make your system sound better. Yes you get about 3dB gain. If you have long runs to your subs, it can be good if RCA produces noise. Other than that, there really isn’t any “downgrade” by going to RCA. The pluses the miniDSP 2x4HD far outweigh any negatives RCA might have
@janthomassrensen10652 жыл бұрын
@@Youthman Well I guess we´re both right on our different approaches and views. For me I´d much rather have the benefits of balanced connection on both ends. Not just for the added gain, that can be done with the volume control. But for the complete lack of humming and buzzing regardles of the volume. You on the other hand want the benefits of complete control of the low end via an extra layer of calibration software/hardware. OK, thanks, many prefer 3 on 1 because the one alone do it more work then the 2, but you said the sub outs are signals and have nothing do to with power, that was my logic too but many argue other wise. 🙏
@randysalsman69923 ай бұрын
@@speedygonzales343 Well the signal does have voltage, and higher the voltage, when your sub amplifies that signal the louder and cleaner the sound will be. So if lets say your signsl is 1.4v, 1 sub on that signal path will get the whole 1.4v to use for it's gain. 2 subs on that signal path and each sub will get 0.6v and you'll need to use more gain to equal the same amplified sound. The 2x4HD however will not only stregnthen your signal, it will make that signal even stonger. So pluging in from 1 sub output from your AVR to the 2x4HD then pluging in 2 subs into the output of the 2x4hd it won't get 0.6v like using a normal Y cable spliter, nor will it get 1.4v like only using 1 sub and getting the full signsl strength from the avr, you'll get like 2v for each sub. Now, don't quote me on the numbers cause they will most likely be different, either + or -. All the rest should be right though, it does strengthen your signal and all that jazz, I just don't know the voltage of the signal from your avr/processor and I don't know by how much that the 2x4HD will boost that signal voltage too, I was just giving you an example. Peace out.

That is a great question. Since there is only one LFE channel, I have not found a reason to use more than one input connected to an AVR. The only reason you have two sub outs on an AVR is so you can adjust their levels independently in your AVR and ease of connecting two subs. The miniDSP does that plus soooooo much more.

More than likely, Eco mode will not impact your subwoofers because they’re only being sent a non-powered signal and your internal amplifier in your subwoofers are powering your subs. What you will hear a difference in is your speakers because now you’re utilizing the full potential of the internal amplifier of your Denon

I have 4 subs in my system, but not wired to the extent of what the video is about. I wanted "WEIGHT" and balance in my system. Just having a front left and right sub had me feeling my system was "front heavy" with bass. One of the most important places I NEEDED a sub was on the center channel. My system is 50/50 music/movies. Center channel dialogue in movies needed beef in voices. Concert videos needed bottom end in center to compete with left and right. The Eagles' When Hell Freezes Over has the kick drum and bass mixed to the center channel. It just made sense to me to put a sub on the center channel. I have a "Y" adapter on center with one side going to sub and the other going to amp for speaker. I also have the rear surrounds with a "Y" adapter. There's noticeable bass from the rears on movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and Blade Runner 2049 AND there's this incredible bass note at the end of The Invisible Man (2020). Having EACH channel locked down with a sub added much more to my setup. I'm VERY happy with the balance and "WEIGHT" of bass in my system.

Hi @Youthman , Can I just connect Sub woofer Line-in and Line-out to do connect multi sub by 16 SUB? AVR_PreOut -> SubA line-in ; SubA line-out -> SubB line-in ; SubB line-out -> SubC line-in; SubC line-out ->...........

If You're not using REW (and a DSP) to align phase, inverting even where necessary, You are leaving dBs on the table.

I split one sub out to four subs with 0 issue. You would have to be splitting and running some long distances before it degrades noticeably.

Depends on whether you have multiple seats and if you care to have good seat to seat response.

I have a question that has nothing to do with subs.the question is why you didn't tell that the giveaways are just for us,I can kinda understand the shipping is high,but there is one for UK us Australia, but it is my fault I expected fairness when such thing don't even exist.good video btw!
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
Hi Glen, each brand decides where they are willing to shop to. One reason it is often difficult to offer worldwide is there are times that the recipient may have to pay duties or import fees. If that happens, that’s illegal due to the whole “No purchase necessary.” There are some that are global, some that are US and Canada, some that are US and EU and some that are US only. Life itself has never been fair.

Bear in mind, most of your mid to lower end AVRs "dual" output is one signal that's internally split.
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t matter. It’s all the same LFE channel. It’s no different than adding a Y splitter
@mephInc2 жыл бұрын
@@Youthman My point is that high end AVRs can have a true dual output. This means you can split twice as many times before any significant impact. By no means was I downplaying your advice. Sorry if it came across that way.

The most umportant thing ive noticed in home theater is you need a crap ton of subs all over the room to get the best dispersion of bass waves.
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
No one said you need to have a crap ton of subs. But you certainly can’t get smooth response across multiple seats and especially multiple rows with just one subwoofer. The more subs you have, the smoother you can get the response to be.

Will pioneer mcacc advanced do a good job of calibration and with multiple subs? So I don't need this stupid fuckin mini dsp or rew?

I honestly dont see the point of getting a avr or amp these days when bluray and dvd players are being replace with streaming apps and the audio quality isnt gonna be the best since it gonna take up more streaming power
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
So if you don’t think in an AVR is needed for Home Theater, how are you getting your streaming media (which is pretty terrible) to all of your speakers?

Why so many subs??? My mains and rears are 3-way with 15" woofers. I have 3 subs but only occasionally do I turn even one on as it is more than enough. I'm sure my room is smaller though.
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
I have yet to find a tower that can reach sub 20Hz. Having multiple subs isn’t about more bass, but rather better seat to seat bass response, headroom and lower distortion.

Minidsp hd won't power any of the subwoofers, it's not an amplifier. Also, it has full range out, not subwoofer out. I know what you meant but people not familiar with minidsp will not.

I still don't get people's obsession with subs. More subs does not mean more base, it might mean a bit more balance but do you want to spend thousands on subs that make very little difference or a nicer projector and speakers. Just saying two subs for most home theaters is more than enough IMO. Anything more is just about pointless. The base you get out of a movie is not changing with with more subs. You get what you get from a movie tract.
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on your size of room, allow do you listen, how low you want it to go. There are a lot of factors that come into play when determining size and quantity of your subwoofers. I have more than enough output and low end extension with my dual subwoofers with (4) 18”.
