Brotha ! as a person who has been spiraling from depression after loosing my childhood dog before Christmas. Ever since I’ve just been house rotting and my Air 3 has been just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. THEN I got this little pocket 3 creator combo 2 days ago. And after my first walk in the woods doing my first “Vlog” ever and I also flew the Air 3 for the first time in a while and after a bunch of smiles from that little adventure I completely understand what you mean, this little camera is truly amazing. It was already given that you are a film director so you are able to vlog aesthetically at any point in time. But the point here is the answer to the question "how to be happy". With our skills or knowledge and expertise each of our own, what can they do when we're sad? Depressed? You answered them in this vlog as well. And yeah I love how you expressed your vulnerabilities, and taught me to appreciate every moments in life 🙏🏻✨️ I wish I can have both filming skills and wisdom 😂

Hey thank you so much for this comment! Actually one of the reasons I took an extended break from filmmaking was because it got increasingly harder for me to make a film. gear. Crew. Limited windows of time. In the indie space this can be a bit of an issue, and eventually it wore me out. I was down and out for a bit. Then enter the DJI OSMO Pocket 3. It's made filming fun again for me! As a director I'd developed skills previously but what I find really fascinating is I can put some of these movements together that I'd not usually do. It's so good for freethinking flowing filmmaking, kind of like throwing paint at a wall this device with the flick of a wrist, it's set up and I'm moving through locations, filming, smiling. Thanks for letting me know how you received the vlog, because vlogging has also taught me to let go a bit and enjoy filming every single day. it's what I enjoy, its what I look forward to and I think I was in a rut until I learnt to finally let go and just film. Also I heard a saying...all directors wish they were actors...now I'm not really an actor but doing this has also allowed me to grow in that department too. I'm finally enjoying doing more on camera things :) Stay tuned, more videos coming soon and take care!

@@NoHomage Yes, those jumps worked totally for me! The first jump I noticed with the switch to you in front of your editor and looking into the camera. Really great. I believe you make quite some use of L- and J-cuts to make these transitions more seamless - I love that too. The mood is great, the flow is great, some shots are spectacular. The opening scene in the telephone booth was brilliant ! The skyscraper rooftop in one of the previous films had some really great shots too. Those might have been even more prominent with a little less of the average shots around them. I probably would have graded the footage a bit more natural, particularly the sunny, bluesky outdoor scenes, but hey, that's 100% personal taste. And I can see that being there, it probably felt exactly like you've graded those scenes.
@NoHomage8 ай бұрын
@@robinb5752 hey thanks for the detail in this comment. yeah I tend to lean into a particular kind of colour/grade. The film that got me into cinema when I was growing up was a Japanese film called All about lily Chou Chou (warning if you do watch it its very dark) and I've been chasing the feeling of that movie ever since through my eyes. Films by Wes Anderson and Noir films like old boy had a huge influence on how I see the world too so the kind of grade I go for is a mix of how it felt to see the world in the moment, and also how I'd like to reference filmmakers I admire. There was a Thai film called Citizen Dog which I saw on DVD and it was filmed on digital cameras back then and I remember thinking it was the best look ever! Now that I'm back to filming again I'm chasing these beautiful colours everywhere haha :)

@pepsimac8 ай бұрын
Ah ok, I’ve seen so many people do different things for exposure on the osmo, I guess whatever works best for you
@NoHomage8 ай бұрын
@@pepsimac yeah its actually a technique I used on my bigger cameras too for that kind of sharp a tad surreal dream like effect. I think my aesthetic kinda leans into it (especially with the mist filter). I grade with a combo of luts too. I used an ND much more about 15 episodes ago in my vlogging but in more recent episodes I've noticed I use the ND less. tbh the ND is super useful for filming in all those highlights but I've found this kind of manual ramping way up 1/1600, 1/2000, 1/2500, 1/3200 with 50 iso works well for my quick set up on the move style!

@@pepsimac thanks! @NoHomage8 ай бұрын
why not tho? one of my favourite films tangerine was made on iPhone. I personally think story, heart, soul and most importantly a good performance is what makes a film. There's a cinematic language that comes about from using this kind of camera with thinking out of the box.
@TheLinesEnd8 ай бұрын
@@NoHomage they just aren’t good for that sort of thing. One thing is the lack of subject separation due to the micro sensor and fake lens specs. Makes the scene too busy to tell a good story
@NoHomage8 ай бұрын
@@TheLinesEnd yeah, but cinema is so much more vast. I love the film tangerine (iPhone) for example because of its imperfections. I'm thinking of utilising the device for its advantages. Like how the Dogma 95 films, or filipino new wave cinema, or bi gan's first feature Kaili blues were made. I come from a background using vintage lenses for my previous features (and or long takes slow cinema) but I'm seeing movements and spaces I can't usually get into with this. I'm seeing non actors open up for a genuine performance. I'm seeing locations you'd not get access to with a crew. I honestly think the footage captured if done right can be poetic and beautiful.

@@NoHomage don’t get me wrong. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max with a cage, handles, rgb light, variable ND, and microphone set up for when I work with social media influencers but it’s with their understanding that it won’t be “cinematic” even with the pro-res log footage since the depth of field decides that more than anything else.
