You guys just weren't meant for each other because you couldn't also compromise and sacrifice for him. You wanted to travel more than what you wanted to be with someone , so its better to try and find someone who fits into your life

I'm going through this right now. We're approaching 6 years in September - he's known since we met that I wanted to do this (ofcourse he'll attest that my dream is suddenly new). I'm not rushing by any means, just gathering up paperwork required, I'd like to save a nice big kitty too. I would love him to join me, but don't want to regret not leaving for the rest of my life :( Especially if the UK government ever axes the ancestry visa...

I think you should go for it! I wish I had done it sooner. Once you are over there it will be the true test of what you really want. You can always go back home! but atleast you gave it a go! Hope it all works out, let me know how you go. :)

​@@Wanderlauren the problem is those of us with children. You can't just take off and leave them, well you could but you wouldn't be any kind of parent. It can makes those of us in this position feel incredibly trapped.

But these things should be said at the start of the relationship ; Isit fair that my boyfriend wants me to move away for two years; I have a daughter he has two and never mentioned he would want to do this before , speak truthfully form the beginning so you make yourself clear !

I have to settle in Germany for my dream Job which I've worked extremely hard for but my boyfriend is already doctor in my country and he doesn't. I'm settling permanently there. I feel so horrible and selfish for this situations

The issue is when you have children. I love mine and my wife very much, however she resolutely refuses to consider moving abroad, even for a trial period. So what do you do? Leave and not see your kids for large swathes of the year or longer? Leave when they're older and know until then the clock ticks on your relationship? It's so horribly hard, upsetting and there's no easy answers

I'm in a similar situation right now. Can I ask, how did you manage to emigrate to the UK? I assume it's easier for an Australian citizen than it is for an American citizen if a work visa is not an option.

I feel the same way. At one time I would have jumped at the chance. I am a US citizen I do not trust the airlines and don't want to trade the US to live in Europe. Travel is dangerous. After what they did to Amanda Knox, no way am I leaving the continental United States ever
