brad fiser .....You are so correct....Steve Allan made Elvis look like an idoit...I can't imagine how Elvis felt !! Elvis was too great a celebrity, to be on Steve Allan show !!! I love Elvis to this day...When he was just getting started in his career, I was three, or four years old...I would play with my dolls, and sing Elvis songs to them....lol...I loved Elvis then, and even more...today... "Our family lived only 20 miles from Memphis, where Elvis lived. We lived on the Tennessee & Arkansas line." That close to my four year old Crush, and my parents wouldn't take me to any of his concerts....I never did see him in Person, but I would listen to him, and Day Dream....I still do that, to this day....Lol. I love his gospel too....I believe God wanted him to present those songs, to the World...I can watch T.V. now, and I can see clearly that God was talking to him, through those beautiful Gospel Songs.....His Maker was speaking to him, and asking him to give his heart, and life to Him. GOD gave Elvis that beautiful voice and "Stage Aura." I believe that's why, Elvis was so unhappy. "Plus, the fact that Priscilla left him, and took "Lisa Marie." jus' sayin' .......So sad though, Elvis is in Heaven, and we all love him, "to the Moon, and back." 💋🕊🕊

What a legend, no wonder about 60 years later the world still falls in love with him 💕

Yes, I felt very hurt for him. Col. had too much control over him. Like Priscilla said though, Elvis could had told Col. No. He would have had to get another manager but Elvis was on top already.I'd like to think he would have done just fine. Especially doing more dramatic movies. Going to Europe and performing as he wanted.. only thing, Col. would have wanted his 8 mil. That list he made for EP to pay up before Elvis wanted him to go. Colonel was just diabolical, so greedy. for lack of a better word. As charming as Priscilla said Col could be, to me, it was just a show, a front, for his manipulative ways. Maybe Col. did love EP in his own way but I didn't see enough of that along the way... When Col. Died. He died without much money left. He gambled so much of what Elvis made for him. He pushed EP always to work. When Elvis got sick, he still wanted him to "get on that stage"! Thus, the drugs would keep him going. Crazy but true... Love EP to this day, always will... ❤ TCB ⚡

I wonder if Elvis would have made it with out them or if it wouldn't have mattered what he sang as long as he looked and sounded and moved the way he did. Guess we will never know. Steve Allen had the nerve to try and dictate anything to Elvis. A growing pain for Elvis ~ yet still shows his kindness, and humble humility of the gift that is dearest Elvis.

For those critical of Steve Allen, he was pretty brave to go ahead and have Elvis on his show following the firestorm of protests from the week before for the bump-and-grind version of "Hound Dog" that Elvis did on Milton Berle's show. There were officials from the FCC in the wings waiting to arrest somebody while the show was on the air. Don't forget that Jerry Lee's first network TV appearance was on Steve Allen's show, and Allen gave Lewis free reign to tear the joint up.

I saw this on TV as a 9 year old Kid. I didn’t know what to make of Elvis singing to a Bassett Hound. Soon after, my mother bought me the 45 of “Hound Dog/Don’t Be Cruel”. I’ve been a fan ever since. What a great voice he had in those early days. The phrasing accentuated by that unique vibrato has never been equaled. He was a very special talent. No wonder he changed the world.
