Story 3: she's 19 so she doesn't understand yet that a LOT of people are going to insist she's the love of their life. Boyfriend being 24, it's unsurprising that he jumped into this new relationship as a distraction before he was ready, and now it's at someone else's expense. That's a maturity issue. My most recent ex left me over Thanksgiving, it's even more complicated because we're eachothers first loves and have 20 plus years of on again off again BS built up between us. I'm STAYING single, why? Not because i want to get back with her, she actually treated me pretty badly and we don't have the same values, but because no, I'm not over her. We can't talk more than an hour without yelling, I'm so angry and resentful and sad. If i brought that energy into a relationship it would be doomed before it began. Learn how to be by yourselves, people.

I had a somewhat similar experience with story 1. I helped out a client on a business matter. He owned a restaurant that was of a particular ethnic cuisine. I said I'd like to try it. He told me "Come on down to my place, I'll take care of you." I took that to mean he'd treat me to a free meal. I went there and he charged me full price. No biggie, but it was an unwelcome outcome. I didn't much like the food either.

Story 3 sounds totally normal…She’s exploring and he should feel flattered she is so open about it and doesn’t have to hide her desires from him. Aldo, our brain isn’t fully developed until 25 so they have some more growing up to do regardless.

Okay-story 1 is weird. OP gf says “I have it covered” Then goes to a fancy place. OP had a budget. I get all that. But it was her birthday. So was he not planning on doing anything? I’m not saying he should have had to pay the bill but having to pay the whole thing on your birthday? Something is smelly.

If you can't afford something then you can't afford something. Period. Regardless of whether it's a birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc etc. OP explained to her he had a budget. She then picks a very expensive restaurant knowing he was on a budget, even said she had it handled. If she didn't want to pay the whole bill on her birthday she should've picked a more reasonable activity. I hate the word entitled but her behavior was entitled.

Story 1, I'm curious. He said he can afford X but never said what X was. Then gf says she's got it covered. I don't agree it was pretty clear what she meant. Does she have the whole meal covered or does she have everything after X is paid. cuz ya I'd be annoyed if on my birthday my bf was adamant about he can only afford let's say $40, and I reassure them that don't worry, if it's over that I got you. Then their meal comes out to be $38 and they hand me the bill id say what the crap.

Story 1: Where in the world would anyone think that "I have it covered" means we are splitting the bill. If someone tells me that he has it covered I expect that they intent to pay the full amount. Also OP made it very clear that an expensive restaurant was not in his budget. Also unless I misunderstood this, the GF in general expects OP to pay unless she has it covered which means she wants to split the bill. I would say that might be a red flag.
