Yes, we Colombians, are very hospitable and friendly. That is why when I went to Barcelona recently, I had a culture shock as people were not the friendliest.

I live in USA and I visited Medellin for a few days and want to go again because I fell in love with the city and the people there are very friendly and I want to visit the city again and see if Medellin is the kind of city I want to stay in because after visiting Colombia I did not want to leave to return back to USA and I know enough Spanish to get by but still trying to be more fluent so really want to experience living in Medellin by visiting the place again.

@@Gmail.comyama Hey James! I started in remote sales for a fully remote company in the online education space. I’m still with the same company but in a CS/Sales role now. I have a bachelor’s degree in Communications and had administrative experience and some sales experience when I joined. I’m sure there are a lot of bad companies out there but there are also a lot of good ones. Remote positions in sales, customer service, digital marketing, media buying, and of course anything coding or tech related can usually be remote too. It just all depends on what you want to do but remote work is becoming more and more common. Lmk if you have any other questions I’m happy to help!

@ivo_rubio
@ivo_rubio Жыл бұрын
That’s awesome Melissa. I met a few people that traveled there and they enjoyed it. I used the Charles Schwab Travel Debit Card to pull money out in Colombian Pesos from ATMs at malls/shopping centers. Bancolombia, Scotiabank, and BBVA are trustworthy banks with plenty of ATMs. The Charles Schwab card refunds you all ATM transaction fees from their network of ATMs internationally. This is how I do it.

I really appreciate this video! You did a great job explaining what your experience was like. The recommendations are great advice too. I’ve booked my first month in Medellin starting mid-April in Poblado. A couple of questions: do you have top 3 places to go and socialize? Do you have a couple travel excursion companies you used and liked? Last, did you find any cafes you really liked to work from (if you went out during the work day)? Appreciate any recommendations in advance 🙏
@ivo_rubio

Thanks Gonzo I really appreciate it! That's exciting, I hope you have an amazing time. My favorite places to socialize and make friends were on the tours/excursions that I booked through Viator. Zona Rosa is a great and lively area to socialize too, especially Provenza, which is where you'll find a ton of bars, restaurants, and places to hang out. For excursion companies, I booked through Viator and don't remember the company names but I could send you the links to the actual excursions I booked if you'd like, just message me your email. Lastly, I worked from a few cafes, but my favorite by far was Pergamino Cafe, which has 3 locations, each one with it's own unique location and vibe. Hope this helps!

Any ideas on how a person with no online work experience can get a job online and where to start. Any skills that one might get to help this process?
@ivo_rubio
@ivo_rubio Жыл бұрын
Hey J, I got my first and current online job by starting in online sales as an SDR (basically talking on the phone with people and setting appointments for the "closers"). From there I got promoted and currently help onboard customers. I signed up with an online recruiting company called closers.io. I did a few interviews with them, then got a few offers to do an interview with different online companies, and landed a role with one. I had very little experience in sales and joined to get my foot in the door. But there a ton of companies that are fully online and you can start in sales or join as a customer service rep to get your foot in the door. The majority of these companies are smaller so it's easier to get promoted and branch off into a different department. Hope this helps and feel free to lmk if you have any other questions.

How much would you estimate the monthly cost for staying in Medellin including everything (would $1000 be realistic?). I'm not trying to stay in the worst spots for savings but also not trying to live like You/Escobar in a highrise lol. Would it be a difficult city to be in without speaking Spanish?
@ivo_rubio
@ivo_rubio Жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin! Aha I hear ya lol. From my experience, $1,000 is definitely realistic in Medellin if you're living like a local. To many locals, $1,000 a month provides a comfortable lifestyle. However, if you're living in the tourist/nomad area of El Poblado, I think $1500 - $2,000 is more reasonable as you're paying premiums due to the high number of tourists/nomads in the area. Also, you can definitely get by without speaking Spanish if you're in the El Poblado. However, knowing some basic phrases and words will go a long way. Hope that helps!

I recommend that you get out of Colombia ASAP. Medellin is among the most dangerous cities in the world. You might think its bullshittt, its not. I've been there and I know the language too. Soon or later, you will find crime or crime will you. I recommend you go and live a nomad lifestyle in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. This is by far the best places for a digital nomad lifestyle. You will find tons of people around your age or other working from Las Terrenas. Safety and peace of mind is extremely important when living overseas.
